I’m from Texas and lived in Sac for 2 years back in 2000. I’m back in Texas but south Sacramento has its own feel, it seems calm, but when it get rough it gets rough. You can’t compare all the cities in California and say this city crazy then the other, everybody moves around in California due to the cost of living! All cities are a mix of Californians! You were in the Seavy Circle/New Helvetica housing area. This originally was built in the 50, 60's to house the residents of our old Asian Community that got displaced by the massive urban renewal of downtown Sacramento. The original residents worked themselves up to the middle class and it is a crime ridden area since. Ironically it borders a middle class and upper middle class Land Park neighborhood that most hoods do not.
@mdiesel232 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that piece of history. My parents run a shop around the area and I basically grew up around there. Never knew that. I only knew that the Asian residents of Downtown got pushed out due to the freeway being built over what was once Chinatown. They decided to keep Old Sacramento over Chinatown. There are still maps and artifacts in the Robert T. Matsui Federal Court house lobby. I know that the Japan Town used to be in around midtown ish area as well. But, due to the incarceration/concentration camps of WW2 that died out as well.

Parked the car ,looked at the the house and left. They knew we wasn't from around there but nobody bothered us. Been to different parts of Sac during my weekend visit there. Then a right to South Sac and then when done there caught the 99 north to Marconi and hit the Heights.. Then from there caught the 80 east towards Rancho/Citrus heights and all the white hoods out there.. That way you got a taste of Sacramento's different cultural hoods.. We got Mexican, Black, White and Asian hood up in this bitch..

As of July 23, 2020 the city of Sacramento thinking about the demolition of New Helvetia. New Helvetia is at the corner of Broadway and Muir, was designed by the four best architects in Sacramento at the time it was constructed around 1941. New Helvetia is Sacramento’s oldest public housing project and it’s even on the National Registry of Historic Places. Sacramento will be losing same historic project or it hood.
@stevenbarnes54504 жыл бұрын
C'mon dude. That area around the cemetery and further to oak park has had major revitalization over the last 30 years. Those brick dwellings were a good place to be a crime victim in the 80's, however, they have sec 8, city public housing etc... - its not bad there. On the other hand, there are far more dangerous places that you might pick up a tail if they saw that camera. Get real......

Oak Park ain't even a hood no more. It's been gentrified. You see white family's walking their dogs down Santa Cruz (aka The Bruz). The heights is still pretty active but not like it used to be. But you ain't seen nothing unless you lived in South Sacramento in the 80's and 90's. Thats when a lot Crip gangs were still active (Garden Blocc, 6/7, Woodbine, Hogan Blocc, Sunny Slope, 50's, Sky Parkway, Cunyville etc etc). Sac was always known as a blood town but it was more crip sets than it was B-dogs back then. The old Florin Mall was a battle zone. Every week we had to run for safety out of that Mall because Meadowview or Oak Park was getting into it with a rival Crip set. South Sac was super active back in those days.
