Thank you for reacting to my request. This show means so much more as time goes on and I miss putting this show together with my SW family. This was our last show of the season and last as a corps because we were disbanded, so it means a lot to see others appreciate our work. Thank you so much Charlie! Keep up the great content!

Charlie thank you, thank you, thank you for doing this reaction!!!! I'm a new subscriber but I really like your DCI videos. It truly means so much to me that you did this show. This was my age-out season, and I was the Baritone Soloist at the beginning of the show, one of the trombones in the quartet, and one of the balled soloists. Thanks again for this man and I'll leave a little bit more info about the show below :) Cowboys Of The Sky: So this show was about the Ironworkers who helped build the skylines of New York City in the 1920's-30's. The show opens with Copland's "Our Town" and helps set the scene of the city waking up for work. Then we get into the opening hit which is the classic "Rhapsody in Blue" melody with a twist. After that, we get to Part 2 which is "Urban Light" by James M. David. This is the scene of the ironworkers at work building the skylines and where we get our groove beat section with the trombone quartet. Then in Part 3, we take a moment to look over the skyline and see the work we've done. This is where the theme from the movie "On Golden Ponds" by Dave Grusin. After that, we go into the battery feature/closer and we return to Gershwins "Rhapsody in Blue". After the closer is over, we start the epilogue. In the closing segment, time has passed and we reflect back on what "we built". Once again thanks for reacting to this!!! It means so much to every one of us that preformed this show and that where every apart of this corps :)

There's something very special about these kids that know they won't get the audience or world class recognition, and yet they march none the less, and work so hard, knowing they can create there own beauty.

the fact that they're putting in just as much effort as those corps at the very top is so admirable too!

Long comment incoming: 1. I love & appreciate the fact you watch Open Class corps. As someone who marched only OC, we are often forgotten in the grand scheme of things in the drum corps world. Seeing someone with the platform you have, sharing your experience, bring a smile to me. 2. So glad to see Southwind have their moment, especially at Semis. For context, during the offseason, the corps announced they were folding (shutting down operations). The corps, however, vicariously lives on through the Southwind Legacy Project started by the Spartans. 3. just some show recommendations from Open Class Legends- '15, '17, '19 & '22 Blue Devils B- '14, '16, '18, '24 Vanguard Cadets- '15, '16, '17, '18, '22 Spartans- '16, '17, '19 Gold- '16, '18, '19, '22, '23, '24 Guardians- '17, '18, '22 Columbians- '23, '24 The Battalion- '23, '24 Again thank you for showing some love to the Open Class ❤❤❤

I marched Spartans that year (the other Open Class show you reacted to), and us and Southwind frequently shared housing sites as we traveled throughout the season. We became sort of "friendly rivals" that year. One of my favorite memories was during a rehearsal when the Southwind drumline came over to our drumline and we all had a jam session for fun. We all just took a break from rehearsing and had a great time talking and meeting each other. You would never see two sports teams doing that. That's the cool and unique part about this activity, everyone has such a high level of respect for each other no matter who you are or what corps you are in. If you watch any retreat video from Finals, you can see that after the last score is announced all the members break out of their formations and walk around, hugging random members from other corps with tears in their eyes, thinking "we did it". Everybody from every corps who performs on the field, those are your brothers and sisters, and no matter who wins or what the scores are we all have one thing in common; an incredible dedication and passion for the marching arts, all striving the be the best performers we can possibly be.

Oh this is so freaking awesome. I never thought you'd react to a show I marched myself. I marched southwind in both 22' and 23', it's so awesome to see you react to this show. After southwind folding I wasn't sure how to feel and I thank you for reacting to this and allowing me to reminisce on this special season.

Charlie, out of all your reaction videos, this one is the most personal to me... I was a charter member of Southwind back in 1981 and 1982, then forty years later I became one of this corps Board members. We were SO proud of our students this particular year, especially when they won the Bronze Medal in Open Class and qualified for World Class semifinals in '23. Little did we know that we would have to make the heartbreaking decision to fold the corps in 2024, but we did not want to risk financial "bankruptcy" by trying to field another season in '24. (Because Open Class corps are smaller, we could not afford the costs that most World Class Corps garner to field a competitive season that would have allowed us to remain in the black at the end of the season.) Nevertheless, seeing so many of our kids' comments here really does my heart good, so THANK YOU for showing this one! Congratulations on 100K subscribers and keep doing what you're doing! And as we say in Southwind, LEGENDS NEVER DIE!!!

thank you for reacting to this one! we also had a lot of challenges faced over the season, like some of the hottest weather any corps experienced, props randomly breaking, members getting injured, but we all finished the season and got 3rd. and yeah then ran out of money and the corps no longer exists SDUB LND ISLD WEG

Yeah open class is still really good, and work incredibly hard. I’m biased because I live in the Columbians home town and have friends in it, but I suggest Columbians 2023-FEAR, the darker theme of the show is really interesting and great music.
