For real! I would've been interested in seeing the full process. It's like one blink & Cynthia goes from being Cynthia Erivo, to Elphaba with hints of Cynthia. The stage make-up is always exaggerated for far-away viewers but the cosmetics team would've had to be more subtle with the shades of green & how they blend it, for close-up camera work. And then green not being a natural complexion irl but having to make it look natural...the talent!!

I'm dying how it was possible to create a consistent green hue on the skin throughout shooting the whole movie. It's a technical mystery. I know from doing drag makeup that painting your skin another colour can be tricky because any subtle variable could change the colour drastically. Touching up throughout the day would also subtly affect the shade if the product is moved or layered in any way whatsoever. I just cannot imagine what her makeup artist must've done to achieve the colour continuity. Green is also particularly triffling to deal with because the human eye detects more shades of green than any other colour, so any flaw would be amplified.

Interesting! So I had a question, when doing makeup in another color such as green, do you use different shades of the green for highlights and shadows/contours to avoid making the face look too flat with just one shade all over?

@Lover30583 yes exactly. I will apply a base colour to the entire face and mix custom contour nd highlight colours on the back of my hand by blending the base colour with other colours. Green for example, I might create a highlight colour by mixing the base green with some yellow and a pinch of white on the back of my hand, for contours I would add blue and a pinch of purple. It depends on the base colour what you add to create contour and highlight colours, but I typically try to avoid using black or white to adjust the tone because they tend to desaturate the colour and ruin the illusion that one's skin is another colour. On top of all that it's important to blush with a complimentary colour, on green skin I think yellow orange blush will look most believable, with an addition of green, blue and purple freckles on top.
