This is such a sad attempt at the creators trying to seem “woke.” They honestly are so out of touch with society and how actual people interact. Either that or they hate teens and want to appeal to older generations by exaggerating them and making them annoying. It wouldve made more sense for the teens to not want the dolls cus its creepy or theyre too old for dolls. Cultural appropriation of dolls would apply in this situation if they were wildly inaccurate or featured racist or stereotypical imagery. However, if someone just uses it any time a woman has an opinion that they don't agree with, and they only do this with women, then that's when it can become sexist. It depends on why it's used. Also I don't get the dolls being culturally inappropriate, can someone explain that? 😂 as a soc student I don't see how that could be. I knew girls who where as white as snow, like me, had almost black hair like me. They preferred the very dark skinned BUT BLACK HAIRED Barbie over the 50 blond Barbies. "Because she looks like me. Black and brown." Which means black haired and brown eyed where we were from. Because skin color was unimportant, unless someone made fun of your WHITE skin, or someone was admired for their dark skin in summer. But we always identified more with non-white people who had black hair like us, no matter their skin color. Because we are definitely not BLOND or BLUE eyed. Because it gets annoying, too, when people act like all white people are blond and want to be blond and like blond girls. No, I love every Disney princess who has black hair, then dark brown, then let's see. So American Natives, Polynesean, Arabic, Indian, Chinese. So I guess we would not have been allowed to choose the Asian Streetfighter characters, Chun-Li and Ryu, but needed to take the blond European ones, Cammy and Ken, even though they have nothing to do with us, but Japanese seem to think we are all blond. Because of race or whatever English speaking people today are so obsessed with. Which I get, there were a lot of problems, but not every country had them! Like I said, in school you were taught to describe people as black, brown, red, or blonde. Meaning ONLY the hair color because the rest never mattered, unless you are talking about sunshine. I sometimes feel like those new woke people can't even imagine that places like that already exist, so they make up more rules that divide people so much more! Here, I would not mind if Charlotte or anyone would put traditional Bavarian clothes on her dolls. I don't mind if people dress up as us. I don't even mind if Americans wear these for work in fake Oktoberfests that are managed by Prussians (Non-Bavarians). I don't get offended if all those Germans copy Oktoberfest and wear our clothes in their land. I just think it is pathetic and sad, because every German region has its own clothes and beer and customs, just celebrate those and drink beer! The only thing I would accept as insensitve would be if someone wears stuff for real that he has not earned, not as a costume. Take Avatar, Aang was thrilled, not offended that Normal people wore Airbender clothes and tattoos as costumes, until he found out they actually were tattoed, because they did not earn them. Apart from that wear stuff as a costume or on your dolls as much as you like.

@@jevonk I had to look that up. I am not American. I would give them a doll like that. WHY? Because where I am from, all a kid would see would be a black woman. When they are very young, they would not even understand that she was supposed to be of a different race. I learned all this shit from watching American movies. And even if I understood all the shit that happened in your country I still will not and don't want to associate entire social and historical attributes with one person who happens to be of a particular race. Because I cannot even understand, even if you get that something was meant to be racist, why that would influence me and make me suddenly think all with that color are the same? That was never done where I am from, and by holding onto that world view you are also perpetuating a view that sees people as different, and an individual as represention for an entire race in the first place. Nothing I see of that woman is bad, you can learn what it used to represent, which means you have to understand that some countries differentiate between people of different races in the first place; but even then, she is just a woman. I would have tought of her as I would think of any "white" woman working in a kitchen. And I don't want to see her differently because your country had and still has so much racial problems.

Just Like That is a show that turns Sex And The City into a PSA for 50-something rich white women with fat brokerage accounts to be socially aware of current issues and important societal changes. There’s nothing wrong with making a show that involves storylines about important topics in our present day era, it’s just that they used Sex And The City as the vehicle for this car crash writing by former Buzzfeed staff. The storylines are so clunky. Euphoria did a better job. You can’t take Euphoria’s formula and make a mediocre version of it and incorporate it to Just Like That, which is existing material from Sex And The City, and expect it to be cohesive. What’s next, HBO, a reboot of The Sopranos with subject matter concerning about capitalism, patriarchy, and queer-identity in the mafia? Just Like That is a show about oblivious and rich Gen X white women constantly being humiliated for being uninformed about important current day societal changes by POC characters. It’s painful to watch and gives us second hand embarrassment just by watching. They made our favorite character, Miranda, trailblazer of the group who was always in the cutting edge of modernity, reduced to an alcoholic Karen that is a laggard to technology. Sis, probably had a Kindle when it first came out. And yet, she’s carrying heavy books to Columbia, making her look like the stubborn grandma.

So making them poor high school and/or college drop outs who got knocked up by random men who don't know how financially invest and save is more relatable? Bc for many of us it isn't, plus there's enough movies and shows about glamorizing or representing struggling families. Many of us grew up with parents who made smart careful financial decisions, got a productive education, married well, and actually have heirlooms and a comfy home to grow up styled with good taste. It's called being middle class and yes even upper middle class. These social situations happen with every type of class of family, divorced, married, poor, mid class, rich, etc. Yes it could've been better written, but it isn't unrealistic.

All we ever wanted was to assimilate into society, these kids now LOVE to be othered which is why they will present one way, but demand you call them the complete opposite. They all just make a mockery of actual TS people! Very sad. And yes the whole show basically was second hand embarrassment. Poor Miranda. They ruined a once vibrant, cutting edge character. And yes didn’t you hear? Tony Soprano is actually a genderqueer, pansexual, demiromantic, asexual drag queen now! 😂

@@rebelraccoon9018 True. That why it's OK for shows/media to portray both realities. Yes a part of the country is not sensible, and the other part is sensible. You can't tell the media to stop portraying one part of reality just bc it makes the other feel bad. There didn't used to be much ethnic representation just a few decades ago, and the country didn't stop complaining until everyone got represented. I’ve never seen the show, so I’m not sure, but this came across to me as a piss-take out of over the top wokism? As in the writers weren’t trying to actually be woke (as some other comments seem upset over), but they were using almost comical over-the-top political correctness and modern culture to offset the mother’s generation as a source of humour ? Either way it’s only supposed to be lighthearted I think - but as is said I’ve never seen the show so I can’t put it into context properly 😂

The writers clearly don't like "woke culture." So instead of pointing out legitimate shifts in views, they wanna write in the new generation as nothing but woke scolders.

Yeah they def tried to make it funny. The only part I actually laughed at was when the girls were talking about Miranda cheating on Steve and Carrie called Che “they” and Charlotte goes “wait!? There are others!?” 😂😂😂 If they followed that lighthearted type of wokeness the show would of been great. Instead it came off as the women being bullied and humiliated into politically correct wokeism!

The kids are so annoying. The mother didn't do anything wrong atleast not in this scene. "I WANT THIS I WANT THAT" like shut the f up. The other comments have said that no kid acts this way and honestly I have seen a lot of people like this. I'm a half vietnamese bisexual girl in a very liberal US state and I just hate this. Even if you want it changed be more polite and stop mentioning it all at once to your poor mother!! I absolutely seen woke people act like this and I god hate it. Those kids are so rude. Sure if someone is homophobic it doesn't mean you can be that rude to them all the time. What is it doing to help?? There is no way that person would want to change if you're always mad at them for that one reason. Not accepting lgbtq does not define a person. It's not a good quality to be homophobic but you can't be rude about every thing they do. And no offense why are they wearing that dumb hat??? People with that fashion sense no matter what gender i can't tolerate. I've been out to my parents right after I turned 8 years old or before. My mom wasn't happy about it and thought I said it because I thought it was cool and I was a kid saying random stuff. Later when I was 10 I was fully out as bi. My mom is still republican (my dad was but he started to hate Republicans because they like trump) my mom was upset but I know that my mom is still a good person and doesn't deserve to get trashed on by me just because she won't full on support me. She's still plenty kind to people. A lot of young people absolutely hate straight people ik some of u guys are gonna think "nobody acts this way" but believe me I've met a lot of people like that. Dated a lot of girls like that too. They've literally said "Im straightphobic" and they hate straight people. This person lived in LA and was adopted by a lesbian couple and had 6 or 7 kids that were all lesbian and 1 gay boy. Not a single straight or bi person they were all completely gay. Im also moving there too tho- people that think being lgbtq is a mental illness i don't like and they are usually homophobic but I think it is true. There is nothing wrong with it, but I think it CAN be treated but I don't think it should. Just being honest there probably is a way to change your sexuality in a medical way. I wouldn't ever want to change my sexuality, but it is probably possible. Also those dolls aren't racist!! They're so obnoxious. I am still a teen and I can't count the amount of obsevivally woke people that are extremely rude to straight men or people that aren't a minority. Like SHUT UP. Just because someone has been discriminated upon I the past you think it will make it equal and more peaceful by discriminating against the other side for just existing??? Yes ik some of these opinions are debatable but honestly some of this is true.

People in the comments saying the writers know nothing about "being woke" when they literately cast the insufferable Sara Ramirez and gave her an equally annoying non-binary character to portray, not to mention making Charlotte's child a non-binary herself. To make things worse, nothing screams inconsistency more than Cynthia deciding that Miranda is a lesbian and everyone getting on board with that ridiculous idea. I'm glad Sara is gone for the third season, and hopefully every non-binary/trans storyline goes away with her, too.

So I think if you watch the full show you will see the bigger picture haha trust me I don’t care about that pronouns stuff I’m proud to be a man masculine and male. The kid yes she’s going through a phase. The guidance counselors at school immediately start pushing for trans counseling which Charlotte and Harry are like WTF!!?? And they do question it and challenge it. The dolls become a way of the daughter to distract Charlotte from picking at her about having to wear pink and her sister backs it up by saying how inappropriate they are which distracts Charlotte haha at the end the daughter is NOT trying to have a “They-Mitzva” she just wants to be herself however she is. It’s pretty dope. The Irish Mexican woman she annoys me at first but eventually I can tolerate her. She’s too aggressive with the pronouns stuff but Miranda gets in her face hard, “back the F- up!!!” and eventually both somehow start going out from there.

I think this segment (and all the segments of this storyline outside this clip) is actually on point and a sensitive portrayal of a parent who is coming to know something she didn't expect to learn about her child --- especially when non binary people have been forced to be invisible so Mom doesn't have a precedent for understanding -- all while trying (and succeeding) to support her child.
