I had a highschool teacher who was very color blind. He was amazing! One of those teachers that's everyones favorite. He told us when we all met him early on that he was colorblind and answered any questions we had. Then lightheartedly he told us that his wife picks out his clothes for him each morning so that he'd match for work and that we'd know if she's mad at him. Basically everytime she was mad at him, it was so obvious bc she would either send him in the most ridiculously mismatched outfits or let him pick his own out. On those certain mornings he would walk into class, we'd laugh at him and ask, "Soo, What'd you do?" And he'd just knowingly & painfully ask, "oh man, how bad is it?" 😂😂😅 we absolutely loved being in on her petty game all those years ❤

My brother in law is color blind (as an electrician) he has to FaceTime my my sister so she can tell him what color wires he's looking at. She also works in a daycare so sometimes she has her kids help him with their colors

I don't understand... my father is colorblind but it doesn't mean that they see in black and white so he doesn't see neon green for example but he KNOWS it's green because it's the same 'whatever other color he sees' that he has seen all his life 🤔

My grandmother's first husband walked out while she was pregnant with their 3rd child. Said he "didn't feel married anymore." Apparently he'd been using his family as an excuse not to get drafted (1940's, WWII), saying there'd be no one to support the wife & kids, etc. Well, after he walked out, Grandma contacted his draft officer, and informed him of the situation. The officer was so obliging... Grandma's ex got his draft notice on his birthday.

My grandmother told me one time she had just pulled a 12 hour shift as a nurse and she came home and still needed to cook dinner for her, their kids (4 in total) and husband. All she wanted him to do was wash up some of the dishes so she could start cooking...he proceeded to whine about is saying he worked all day also and was so tired blah blah blah. Like she wasn't just up herself almost a whole day and night also working as a nurse...but anyways he finally did start while she went to change out of her scrubs. He yells to her that he's going out that he will be back by the time the food is done &he had gotten the dishes done. So she goes in ti start getting the food out and goes to grab a plate out of the dish drainer and every single dish was so greasy still she almost dropped it, so she picks the rest up checking them and so once she realizes he half ass did them and expected her to just do them right her self and cook for him as he left her there with the kids on top of all this. She proceeded to throw and break every single dish he "washed" making sure to leave a beautiful mess for him to clean up when he got back from where ever the he'll he just left to go to. So she rounds up the kids, leaves the meat out and dishes broken on the floor and takes off to go get dinner at a restaurant with the kids. I don't think she came back that night and just went to her mother's so she could get some sleep. But refused to come back until he apologized and cleaned up the mess..When she finally did return the mess was cleaned up but she just got tired of him treating her poorly and they got divorced sometime later. I can picture it from start to finish lol. No one deserves that after working super long hours and still being a mother on top of it. I don't see anything wrong with her response 🤷🏼‍♀️

My dad went out after work on a Tuesday to cash his check at the bar. Mom was home with five kids under 8. He showed up Saturday afternoon wanting dinner. Mom started screaming wanting to know where he had been. Dad ignored her and started reading the paper. Mom proceeded to smash every single dish and cup in our house. Before the night was over the paddy wagon came for dad. Shoulda took mom too imo.

When my in-laws were first married, in Oklahoma in the early 1920s, they were living with his parents. When they sat down for breakfast one morning, my father-in-law didn't like the dress she was wearing and told her to go change. She said no. So he went over and tore the dress off of her expecting her to run from the room in embarrassment. She did not. When he told her to go put something on she said, "No. You took it off of me so you must want me this way." She sat there in her underwear for the entire meal! He never did that again. That woman was a spitfire until the very end. Love you Mama! Miss you.🥰

My best friend did something similar to her ex. They were about to leave the house and she was wearing a mesh shirt with a black bra underneath, and her ex told her she was underdressed and to take it off. She said ok and took it off and walked out of the house. He was shocked! lol That day he learned not to ever try and tell her what to do or how to dress. Well, obviously the lesson didn't stick, which is why he's an ex.

My great grandmother lived on a farm in Wisconsin with her husband and their 7 children. Great grandpa was a womanizing gambler and was usually just home long enough to get Gigi pregnant and then gone again, often for weeks or months at a time. Last time he left, without a word, Gigi sold the farm, moved the fam to Florida, purchased MANY acres and started farming. This was during the Great Depression. Gigi ended up with many more children (railcar kids), all of whom she put through trade school or college, depending on their leanings. 27 adopted children and their families showed up for her funeral, and people in that little town still occasionally talk about "Miss Alice". Never did hear from Great grandpa though...

My husband wanted me to become a SAHM. After much deliberation since I wasn't too keen on the idea, I decided to just do it. First week I would make sure dinner was ready when he got home. Friday rolls around and I wanted to make an extra special dinner. I spent two hours prepping and cooking a beautiful, delicious meal. My late maternal great grandmother, Nani, was such a brat and we loved her. Didn’t matter if she had diabetes, you can take her candy away from her cold dead hands. I took my first steps towards her on my first birthday. She was lovely. Anyway, on to the story. So my mother is a hairstylist (and honestly acts like everyone’s auntie, friend, sister, mother, and uncertified therapist) and, as such, gets to know all her clients very personally. Well, one of her long-time clients was telling my mother about how her granny somehow managed to get into “Old Lady Time-Out” at the nursing home facility despite being the victim of some other old lady’s bullying and putting, of all things, a live frog down her blouse. My mother said that her grandmother, Nani, also lived at that nursing home and she was planning to visit her soon, so she’d do some investigation work on her client’s behalf. So! The day of the visit arrives and momma is ready to get the tea from Nani (because if y’all have ever worked in or frequented an old person living facility, you know they gossip and cause drama like a bunch of high schoolers). Well, turns out that tea was a bit more literal than we thought. Because Nani was also in “Old Lady Time-Out” despite some other old lady having dumped a pitcher of iced tea on her during lunch the other day (…or water…it’s been over a decade since I heard the story…we’re Okies so it’s probably iced tea). Knowing Nani, these events were connected. So momma did a bit more digging there to find the truth. Which went as such: Client’s Granny participated in this sort of bake sale that the nursing home did to raise money and give the residents enrichment. Nani threw some shade at Granny’s subpar baked goods, which is a significant insult in the grandma community. Slanderous even. Especially coming from a nanna that knows her way around sweets. So, in retaliation, the Granny confronted Nani later in the cafeteria and decided to relay her hurt feelings in the form of a pitcher of liquid onto Nani. Because Nani was a petty force to be reckoned with, she somehow managed to go into the garden, smuggle in a live frog, and give the Granny payback in the form of an amphibian entering her clothing without her consent. Thus, the two were both put in “time-out” by the facility. (I don’t exactly know what “time-out” entails since Nani somehow managed to finding the Granny to frog). When my mother saw her client again, she was eager to know if my mother uncovered the truth and caught the culprit who frogged her grandma. My mother, grimacing, admitted that she did, indeed, find the culprit, her Nani. While and after sharing the whole story, the two were laughing to tears because (a) it was absolutely in-character for their grandmas to act that way, and (b) truly, it does not matter how old we get, people will still act like petty dramatic teens from time to time 😂

My grandfather was a pilot, my grandmother - a geologist (not a very "womanly" profession some 65 years ago in my country). He courted her relentlessly, promised to love her forever "for who she is and what she does". Eventually she agreed to marry him, and not 2 months later he started to say things like "Why don't you grow your hair, it would suit you better", "Why don't you buy more dresses, you look like a man with your haircut and all these pants and shirts" and, eventually, "Why don't you quit your job, I'll provide for all of us, and you're expecting already". So she said "And that's exactly why I never wanted to marry" and divorced him! She has continued to work in geological expeditions until she hit 70 and finally retired. He asked her to come back and promised he'd never try to change her again multiple times, but she wasn't the kind you can fool twice :)

My parents had the craziest relationship. They weren’t happy unless they were fighting and fought to the bitter end, married 52 years when my dad passed. One of my favorite stories of my mom’s petty paybacks was after one of their morning fights, dad went to work with a sandwich she had made him. Before he could take a bite, one of the guys he worked with noticed a piece of paper sticking out of the sandwich and grabbed it. My dad dismissed it as probably a love note from my mom trying to make up for pissing him off that morning. The guys at the other side of the table burst out in laughter, though, because the note said, “I hope you choke on this, you bastard!” 😂

my brother and cousin were staying at my grandparent's summer cottage. They were asked to help my grandfather with chopping wood and piling it. My cousin refused, my brother got in there to help. For dinner my brother and grandfater got steak and potatoes, my cousin got a hot dog. grandmother told him the meal was for the men that worked, hot dog was for the children that don't. Never forgot that and god love her.

My Abuelita owned a restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico when she was younger(she’ll be 99 next week! Yay Abuelita!). Well she is the queen of petty for so many reasons but one particular thing that stands out; almost daily this man would come in and he was a total jerk. Demanding service and never saying please or thank you. At the time, it wouldn’t be acceptable for her to flat out turn him away. There was one thing this man would do every single time he went into the restaurant…he would always order coffee, add sugar, cream, stir with a spoon and lick the spoon which was followed by him complaining loudly that his coffee was too cold and demanding a new cup immediately. This happened countless times until one day, Abuelita had enough. The guy arrived for his morning coffee and went through the same routine. But this time my Abuelita took the cup and removed the spoon then she proceeded to place the spoon on the hot griddle in the kitchen. Waited a few minutes then grabbed the spoon with an oven mitt and put it back into his cup. She gave it to the man and waited for him to take out the spoon and put it into his mouth. When he did, he jumped up and yelled a few expletives in Spanish. He went to say something to my Abuelita and she said “Hot enough for you?” Smiled and walked away. From then on, he never complained about anything and spoke to my Abuelita like the queen she is.

My grandpa made the mistake of complaining about his food being cold after HE got home late. Grandma decided to let the dog have his literal place at the table and served the dog who was obviously more appreciative of her hard work and was there on time. Grandpa remained hungry that night and thanked grandma for dinner regardless of the temperature of it after that.

One woman told me that her husband rang and said he'd be late, and to put his dinner in the oven. When he got home (he'd been at the pub drinking, not working late) she pointed to the oven, where his ham and SALAD was being kept warm. I don't think they lasted long. One time my brother in law got angry at my sister in law for buying something he didn’t like and he told her that from now on she wasn’t to “make a move” without him. She decided to take him literally! She woke him up to ask if she would get out of bed in the morning, she called him at work dozens of times throughout the day to ask if she could change the baby’s diaper, replace the toilet paper, etc. but when she had his secretary interrupt a meeting saying she had an emergency and then asked if she could change her tampon he relented and never told her she had to ask for permission to do something again. 😉

Our neighbor’s kids would repeatedly (like 4-5 times a day) kick their ball into our fenced yard, and proceed to come ring our bell to ask for it back. This went on for MONTHS. These neighbors called the police on us because my husband didn’t IMMEDIATELY return a ball one time (he was working from home and in a meeting). He had told them he’d get it later, forgot all about it and had the *audacity* to leave his own home for a run. The police showed up, talked to us for a bit, and mentioned that they told our neighbors that we didn’t have to “hop to” every time they threw a ball into OUR yard. And that the next time they were called out for something like this, they would be issuing a citation for misuse of emergency services. We haven’t heard a peep (or seen a ball) since.

About 20 yrs ago, my husband & 2 sons sat down to eat dinner & I hear muttering. I look up & my husband goes, "Really? This again?" Mind you, I worked 60 hrs a week as a hairstylist, shopped for all the groceries, cooked every meal plus making lunches for them all AND kept a spotless house. Who did these people think I was? Martha Stewart? So, I politely got up from the table, took their plates & threw everything in the trash....including what was on the stove. The next day I went to the grocery store & bought about 60 frozen dinners. I continued to buy frozen dinners for 2 solid months. Then I figured, "I haven't cooked for awhile. Maybe they've learned their lesson." Nope. I spent my one day off making homemade lasagna from scratch only to have my husband come through the door & say, "What is that awful smell?" I proceeded to take said lasagna out of the oven & toss it into the garbage......& hand him a microwave dinner & repeated the process for another 2 months. It's been 20 yrs. Not ONCE has anyone said a word about my cooking since.....and I'm an excellent cook. Just a petty potato 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Petty Betty here. Back when we first married, my husband and I shared cooking and laundry 50/50. We were late 20s (me) and early 30s (him), so we were both reasonably proficient at taking care of ourselves. However, my husband had a bee up his butt and constantly interfered in my cooking, adding stuff and criticizing my process. I told him, if it was that important to him, he can cook allll by himself. So I quit cooking. He does 95% of all the meals. 🤣 About 6 months later, he started in on how I did laundry. I told him, if it was that important to him, he could do it all by himself. So I quit doing laundry. He does 95% of all our laundry. 🤣 We’ve been married almost 25 years. He doesn’t criticize anything I do around the house anymore. 🤣 ❤

My grandpa HATED the squirrels that got into the bird feeders right by his kitchen window because they ate all the bird feed. He would bang really hard on the window and yell at them all the time. My grandma always told him to settle down and stop hitting the glass or it would break. Sure enough, one morning when my sister and I were spending the summer with them, he hit the window so hard it cracked. The whole thing needed to be replaced, and it was a BIG window. He then griped about it for days. I guess my grandma had heard enough, because after a few days of his complaining she took my sister and me to the craft store and bought like three bags of these little resin squirrel figurines. She had us go all over the house hiding them wherever we could. We thought it was the funnest thing ever, so we were attaching them to lamp pull cords, putting them in his dresser drawers, his popcorn bowls, his shoes, all the cups in the kitchen, his pillowcase, etc. They were EVERYWHERE. He never hit a window again. He did keep yelling at the squirrels though! Miss them both.

The pettiest thing I ever did when I was mad at my husband: he used to work second shift, so he'd get off at 10 and come home. I had dinner saved for him. I would heat it up and give it to him to eat while I stayed up late just so we could connect for a few minutes before I went to bed. All I asked him to do was to put the dirty plate and silverware in the dishwasher. One night he didn't do that. He just left the plate sitting there when he was done with it. I wasn't going to touch it so I ignored it and he did the same thing a second night. After the third night I refused to bring him his dinner any more; if he wanted it, he had to go to the kitchen and heat it up. But he STILL left the dirty dishes sitting there, even with me asking him to get them into the dishwasher.. After TWO WEEKS of those stupid dirty dishes sitting there, I had had enough. I welcomed him home as usual one night. He ate dinner while I sat with him and then I kissed him good night and went to bed. He never noticed that the dirty dishes had disappeared, and he didn't ask what happened to them. But he found out. Oh, yes, he found out: They were piled up on *his* side of the bed. He must have discovered them when he tried to get into bed in the dark. I have no idea how he reacted because I was sound asleep, but the next morning the dirty dishes were in the dishwasher. We've been happily married for 32 years. We have never, ever talked about what happened that night.

Since he insists on leaving it inside out before laundry (I hate doing it and simply ask that he turn it right side out and zip or button but often “forgets”), I just leave it all as is and make him turn it out. If someone is reading comments and wants a fun-fact: in Italy we do often put sugar in "Bolognese sauce". It's an old tradition to compensate for the acidity. At least one spoon for every 5 or 6 tomatoes. The USA Bolognese sauce and our "ragù alla Bolognese" are not the same thing, but in both are often traditionally added spoons of sugar. Especially in the North of Italy, people used to put sodium bicarbonate, but sugar became more popular in the last centuries. So your nonna would be proud nevertheless.

My great grandparents were like this! 😂 My great grandpa was a top level engineer in the 40s, 50s, and 60s my great grandma was a top level housewife and had EVERYTHING down to a system from chores to kids to lunches, meal prep, you think of a stereotypical housewife keeping everything in tiptop shape back in those days, that was my great grandma! Well, when my great grandpa retired, he decided he was going to come home and start trying to control how she ran the house so she said, "OK! When we were first courting I bought him a nice watch, he got the shits with me one day and threw it in the ocean, I have never bought him another watch to this day Back in the day when mum and dad were first married they had a wood fired stove. My grandma had a gorgeous blue with purple flowers dress she loved and wore for special occasions/church, etc. My grandfather said he hated the color purple and she should just get rid of the dress. She was like fine. She kept the dress, boxed it for storage, but bought nothing but purple dresses until the day she died in the late 60s. Mom said she had about 50 purple dresses in various shades and the one gorgeous blue and purple dress that started the purple wars that my 16 year old mom inherited and altered to fit her and wore it to my grandmother's funeral. My Grandmother was a master at petty! My parents had been engaged for over a year...set the date, got the dress etc etc. My aunt, only a couple months before the wedding day, got engaged and said she had to get married before my parents. My grandmother was furious with her and insisted that no, they have been engaged and planning this for a year you can wait. Aunt kept pushing and then it came out that she wanted my grandparents to pay for their honeymoon. So my Grandmother set a plan in motion. They would pay for my Aunt's honeymoon but only if she waited until after my parents got married. My aunt agreed and when the time came for the honeymoon, she discovered that my grandparents and her youngest brother (who was 12 at the time) were also packed up ready to go. Turns out my Grandmother decided that if they were paying for this honeymoon, then it was a family vacation. So my aunt and uncle went on their honeymoon with my grandparents and my uncle in tow. LOL You should hear some of the petty things my mother did! I am from a long line of petty! LOL

@Kaastengels oh too many little things to list. But one big one was when I was little. My dad came home from the bar with his shirt ripped somehow and drunk. (The shirt comes into play later.) The next day, we were supposed to go to an event as a family. But dad was too hung over. So mom sent us to play somewhere and proceeded to make as much noise as possible around my dad. We came back later to Dad showered, alert and ready to take us to the event. But that shirt...for the next 10 to 15 years that shirt hung in full view in the laundry room, unwashed and still ripped. My dad had to walk by it every day. It wasn't until they remodeled that room that the shirt was finally discarded.

She found out who the woman was, walked up to her when she was at bat ina softball game and dumped his ashes on home plate. Said "here you go, you can have him" and walked away.

My nan told me that her and my granddad got divorced after years of him been an alcoholic and abuses. While they were together she said she knew what time he would be back from the pub and he always wanted his tea ready so she made him a cat food (meat)and potato pie. One night after he had physically hit her. She spent the whole day polishing the wooden floor and put the rug back on top, so as he came in demanding his tea drunk with one step on the rug he went flying across the room and landed in the fireplace and knocked himself out. 😂

A friend of mine moved into a new neighborhood. Important to say, there was NO HOA. My friend put 1 pink flamingo in her BACK yard, with a privacy fence. She received a letter, addressed to OCCUPANT. Please keep your yard ornaments tasteful. Well I have to say, she idles at petty. THE GAUNTLET WAS THROWN DOWN. This was before internet shopping was a thing, but she enlisted her petty soldiers, and EVERY PINK FLAMINGO, large and small, where gathered. Fun fact: if something is put out on the curb or in a trash receptacle out by the curb for pick up, it is considered public property and therefore up for grabs by anybody. Also, the best petty compliance I have ever done was at my job. Picture this it's 3 minutes until closing time (my McDonald's closes at 11). We have a lady come through drive-thru. I'm like welcome to McDonald's, what can I get for you tonight? She starts out nice and polite, gives me her order, then mentions needing a replacement for an item from a messed up order from a week ago. We have a log for replacement orders so we can know who needs what replaced. I ask her what her name is , who she talked to, and when so I can find her in the log. She tells me her name, says the date she "called", and that the manager she talked was someone named Lindsey or Leslie she wasn't sure. Well her name wasn't in the book anywhere and the managers she mentioned Lindsey never worked there and Leslie had quit a month prior. So I tell her to pull forward and we'll keep checking the book. She pulls forward (it's now 30 seconds to closing time) and the person in window tells her we can't find her in our book. He tries to explain to her that without proof of purchase we can't help her (this is policy). She starts getting rude telling the person in window to look again. He tells her we looked at every page and entry in the book and can't find her name. She demands to speak to the manager. So we get the manager. He tries to explain to her what she was just told we can't find her name in the book without proof of purchase we cant help her. She get even more rude. It is now 12 minutes past close. The manager closes the window and walks away before he loses his temper because she wasn't listening. So I just want to finish cleaning the restaurant and go home. I ask the manager if he wants me to just get her cashed out hand her her food and get her on her way. He says yes but try to hurry we need to do closing tasks. I say ok and go to the window. I open the window and she instantly starts demanding to know my manager's name. She's all what's his name ?! I want his name! Give me his name! I tell her due to safety policies I can not give her his name, however I do need $11.34 to get her cashed out and on her way home with the food she ordered. She keeps demanding the manager's name. I think I told her like 3 times I can't give it to her and that i needed $11.34 to get her her food and get her on her way home. She goes, "You need to listen!" At this point, I'm done with this interaction. I'm tired, I want to do my closing tasks and go home. So I cut her off saying "No, you listen, it's currently 11:14. That's 14 minutes past our closing time. I need $11.34 to get you cashed out so you can have your food and be on your way home. Because without proof of purchase I can't help you, and I can't give you the manager's name due to safety policy." She yells at me to "SHUT THE F-ING WINDOW THEN!" So I said "ok" and did what she said. I shut and locked the window. The look on her face was priceless. It said to me "the audacity of doing what I said and not arguing back." So I only found out about this during my grandmother's funeral a few years back. All my aunts and uncles flew in of course for the funeral. During the wake my aunts were chatting about some of the stuff my grandmother used to do when she was younger and they told me a story of when she was really young. She lived in New Jersey at the time. She barely had any money and had no car (this is important for later). One day she came home from work and her house was robbed. A few months later, she learned that the person that robbed her was a friend of hers. She didn't learn about this until after he moved to California. So my grandmother, with no car, and practically no money, hitchhiked from New Jersey to California, tracked this guy down, knocked on his door, and when he opened the door, she punched him in the face, turned around and hitchhiked back to New Jersey without saying a word to him. And all I can think of was, grandma did that? Bake me cookies and fed me medicine while my parents were working while I was sick grandma did that?

It is really sad that your dad involved you into this so you don’t have your relationship with grandpa. My dad didn’t have a good relationship with his dad. His dad started to drink heavily when he was 30 and my dad was 2. I really appreciate my dad’s attitude towards our relationship with grandpa. He never said anything bad about him when we were kids. My brother and I were the only grandkids our grandpa had. When my brother was born grandpa went to rehab facility and stop drinking. He was amazing with us. I am really glad my dad didn’t program us against him because he personally felt bad about him. Maybe a year before my grandpa died he finally told me how hard it was to be a soldier during WWII. He also told how he loved a woman but his parents organized his marriage with my grandma. Same thing happened to my grandma. It was unhappy marriage from beginning to end. It was Soviet Union and divorce was not an option. Grandpa started to drink as many others. I love my grandma but she is not an easy woman even to live with. The whole point is what happened between your grandpa and grandma- their relationship. You probably don’t even know the whole story. But you and your grandpa should build your own relationship. Don’t waste this opportunity just because your dad and your grandma hate this man

My boyfriend would always critique the meals I cooked, saying things like, "I'd have put more (fill in the blank) if I had cooked this" or "My ex-wife made this so much better." I'd finally had enough of being compared (mind you, I was working full-time and doing all house chores while he worked odd jobs occasionally), so I said, "Oh, not a problem," grabbed his plate and threw it in the trash, plate and cutlery, and all. Then I grabbed all the leftovers and threw them in the trash, as well. After that, I pretty much only made enough food for myself haha! And when he decided to cook, I'd make comments such as, "My husband used to make this so much better because he would (insert details)" or "My mom used to...." - you get the idea. It was actually my granddad who was petty! Turns out, I get my (severe lack of) height from him. Grandma was at least six inches taller. It came from his height being stunted due to lack of food when he was a prisoner of war, 1943-1945. And grandma liked wearing high heels. So she always looked extra tall (we are a short family). Our family has a rule when it comes to get togethers. 2 adults serve all the children their food. Than everyone gets their own food (eldest to youngest) we been doing it this way for decades. Its efficient! Well a family member middle aged got married and they wife always came over looking like something was stuck up her butt. She also always demanded her husband to bring her her food. Oh! I should also mention, we would put all the animals out side on the closed off porch with some food of their own so they didn't get in our way. Okay so i think it was the 3rd time that the woman came over. She obviously demanded her meal. (And i mean obviously if someone wants to get you some food that is absolutely fine! It was the demanding that made us all mad.) But yeahh so the husband looked embarrassed and went to go get her food. My grandma cut in and said, "no no no no i will get it for you hunny!" My grandma took her time making up the plate. Once she was done she took it, walked right passed the wife who was reaching out, went onto the porch and left the plate out there. The wife said, "uhm wheres my food?" My grandma said, "i put your food out where all the other [feamale dogs] are supposed to eat." And then walked away. My grandma, who’s still alive, 91 yrs old and fitter than a fiddle, is fucking iconic. This spanish woman got married to a portuguese man (my grandpa), bc her sister’s husband knew him from work and they were introduced that way, and her sister wanted my grandma to come live close to her in Portugal. My grandma, who has a lot of suitors and wasn’t really that interested in settling down, bc she had her own work, her own money and liked her independence, was finally convinced to go for this guy since he made a lot of grand gestures in the beginning and she figured that her biological clock was ticking, so she might as well settle down soon kf she wanted to have kids (she was in her late twenties/early thirties). And also, ofc, her sister living in the same city was kind of s deciding factor. Well, she marries him, and they have 3 children together. My abuelita came from a pretty wealthy family and had always had a maid growing up, so when she came to Portugal she didn’t even knownhow to cook an egg, she told me that she remembers calling her parent’s house back in spain to ask her nanny how to to it. But my grandma has always been a go-getter, she was raised by a feminist father who told all of his daughters that they should work and be independent, and she put that same attitude towards learning how to do housework and take care of her children (3 sons). Well, things were pretty good in the beginning, but soon she noticed that my grandpa started to change (or show his true colours). As she tells it, she started to notice how different portuguese women were treated compared to spanish women in city she’d come from. In Spain, the husbands went to work and made money, but when they came home they handed it over to the wife, who managed the household. Well, in Portugal things didn’t work the same - she started noticing how women on the streets were always wearing clothes of lesser quality than their men. How her husband refused to ”give” her money to spend on clothing, school things snd even food for her kids. Finally, she had to resort to making jewelry and meat pies, anything she could sell at a food stall to get money because her husband refused to give her access to any funds, and she started to suspect that he was cheating, then got confirmation. Ofc she told him that she was leaving him, going back to her parents house in Spain, but back then the man of the household held all authority over the children, so he told her that she could leave, but she’d be doing it without her children - so, she stayed. (Apparently this happened to a lot of spanish women around this time, as my grandma tells it. They were lured over the border by portuguese men and then trapped by having kids with them, and most mothers can’t leave her kids). So, yeah, she stayed, and the night she found all this out she went to sleep on the couch - but then she thought, ”am I stupid? Why am I the one sleeping on this uncomfortable fucking couch? I’m not the one who’s done something wrong”. So she went to their bedroom and told my grandpa to go sleep on the couch. He said no. She said ”ok, this is what we’ll do then. We’ll both sleep on this bed (it was s big ornate bed, a wedding present from her parents and I think it had been their before they gave it to her), it’s big and we’ll both fit in it. But mark my words - if you so much as touch me with ONE finger, I’m gonna kick you off of this bed and then God have mercy, cause only he knows what I’ll do to you.” (My grandwa was and is a devout catholic, so she meant her words lol and he knew it). He never touched her again. She waited until her youngest son had left for college, then she packed her bags and left with only the possesions that could fit in her car. She drove to Spain, a new town cause her parents were dead and her hometown didn’t really feel like home without them there, and besides, she’d found work as a secretary in a beach town. There, she bought an apartment in a high-rise with the help of one of her sons (my uncle), and made a new life for herself. She’s best friends with her neighbour, walks down to the beach almost every day and the best part is that she can afford a better life because of my grandpa’s stupid pride. You see, my grandma is catholic, like I mentioned, and never wanted to divorce, or get married more than once, both because she takes wedding vows very seriously, but also because she’d just fuck8ng sick and tired of men and never wanted to settle down with one again, so she figured that divorcing or not didn’t matter to her cause she wasn’t ever planning on getting married again either way. But she’s a very practicsl woman, so she said that it went against her principles to innitiatena divorce, but if he wanted one she didn’t fuckng care either way, so if he put the papers in front of her she’d sign them, her concience clear in that she did her best to the bitter end. Well, grandpa wanted a divorce BUT he didn’t want to withstand the humiliation of living like a divorced man, so he told her that no, he wasn’t gonna give her any papers to sign. She shrugged and left. Well a few years later, when she was close to retiring, my grandpa was in a car accident. I’m not at all saying that he deserved it or anything like that, but perhaps karma has a way of making things right, because he’d been a heavy smoker and the car crash basically killed him bc of that (which, of couse, I wouldn’t wish on anyone, let alone him, that’s not the part that I think is karma). The part that feels like divine retribution for my grandma is that since they were never divorced, the government granted her the right to recive his pension as well as her own, as is the practice in both Spain and Portugal, I believe. So after all that she had to endure, at least she got monetary compensation in the end (which she saves, because like her father taught her, she doesn’t ever want to have to be dependsnt on anyone). This woman is so fucking strong, she’s 91 yrs old and in the last 5 years she’s broken 4 bones - every single time she gets upp, takes herself to the doctor, and even if her foot is broken she continues to walk on it because she says that the day she stops like everyone tells her to, will be the day that she dies. She herself says that she was born sith the damndest luck - that any time she watches a football game, her tesm looses, and resl life is the same - but, she was also born more stubborn than a damned mule, and that’s what serves her well. If she wants something, she ends up getting it, even if it’s out of sheer spite. I adore her❤️

My Mom is super petty! Always was with my dad. One of her favorite stories that she liked to tell was when Dad was backing up her gold Gran Torino with the matching fishing boat. She was trying to give directions and help and he told her to shut up. So she did. Even when he was heading toward the mailbox. She didn't say a word. Even when he hit the mailbox and scratched her car. He gets out and says, why didn't you tell me I was close to the mailbox. The couch in the yard reminded me of one of our neighbors calling the city on us because our yard hadn't been mowed. It wasn't anything terribly high and we planned on cutting it that weekend (like most normal people). Because we have small/short dogs we do make a real effort to keep our yard cut on a regular basis. I think this particular time we skipped one weekend, so it was due, but not a forest! She is an older lady who does nothing but work in her yard all day long while my husband and I work during the week. Well...the city gave us 10 DAYS to "rectify the situation" or we would be fined. Although we had absolute FULL intentions of cutting it in two days (on a Saturday), we waited the FULL TEN DAYS before cutting it. Additionally, anytime we were on a 10 day "notice" we made sure to be outside "trimming trees or weed-eating," but not actually cutting the lawn. We continued to do this for every notice we received (about 5) until the calls stopped and she realized that she would get what she wanted much quicker if she just let us cut it when our schedule permitted. Haven't received a notice in about 4 years now!

I've told this story before, but it's such a great petty grandma story so I'll repeat. One year my grandmother arranged a dinner party. She invited her best friends, grown kids, and went all out making a really nice dinner. When it was done she pulled out a beautifully decorated cake. "Oooh, what's the occasion?" My mom's neighbor, who we will call Batty Patty, across the street complained to the city about a small detached shed my mom had. While it was technically against bylaw, the property was bought that way and therefore the bylaw didn't apply. When the neighbor called the city again they came out, spoke to my mother and then walked across the street to speak with BP. They noticed her carport was not up to code and she was told to remove it. She refused and was paid a visit by the city every few weeks. One day the cops attend with the city and was told if she didn't remove the carport the city would "detach" it for her. She moved.

The garage was too close to the alley for the towns comfort, but because of the way the property (almost 200 year old home and farm land) was divided and sold, there was nothing they could do. Well, while it was between owners just before my fiancé bought it, they leveled the garage, and since then, they’ve denied any building of any kind on our property for the last 6 years. So bogus. But there isn’t much we can do since we are the new kids in a very old very very veerrrry small town. It sucks, but I’m trying to get more involved with town meetings and city council etc.

It’s literally 3 blocks wide and 5 blocks long. And the narrowest part of town is what’s off the highway. I tried so hard this past year, and I got invited to things (which was a huge leap) but they didn’t allow me to get involved and they took none of my ideas or gifts for the fall festival. Omg a chance to share this story. My mom was the petty wife and my dad clapped back and made her head explode. It's been like 30/40 years and she's still mad at him about it and he's still very slyly proud. They had some kind of fight and my mom threw a pork chop at him at the dinner table. My dad, not wanting to give her the satisfaction, said nothing. He just picked up the pork chop and ate it without a word. Her head exploded right off her shoulders she was so pissed at him for the lack of reaction. Maybe ten years ago my husband always begged me to make a certain type of cookie. The recipe calls for four cups of flour which is hard to mix with so little wet ingredients. I left a little flour out for better texture and he flipped! We had company over and he went on and on about “You made them wrong!! It changed the texture!! You have to blah blah blah”. My dad was in the military and was ocd about “A place for everything and everything in it place”. This was to the point where every nail, screw, and bolt had its own bottle and position on the shelf. He always kept the phone on the upper left corner of his desk. My mom’s pettiness…she always answered the phone on his desk even though there were four phones in the home and would move the phone to the middle of the desk just for pettiness. Dad even asked her once why she didn’t put it back. Her reply…because it bugs you. He never asked again just moved it back. His revenge… all spices in alphabetical order instead of by usage. Mom…who keep messing with the spices. Dad…me. Mom…why. Dad…because it bugs you. Both had their own systems for things that drove the other around the bend. But they loved, laughed, teased, and supported each the until dad passed and mom still cared until she joined him.

My grandpa went out with his friends shortly after grandma had their first child, he didn't come home for three days. It was late February, very cold, but he thought if he brought home and ice cream cone and she took it, everything would be fine. Yes, she took that cone, then she proceeded to bop him on his head with a rolling pin, knocking him out. Then she dragged him out onto the sun porch, which was a cold room in winter, lay him on the day bed, covered him with a few quilts, and left him. 3 days later he stumbled into the house and she says, "Oh, I thought you might be dead and was waiting for the dr.". This was in the early 1930s and doctors made house calls on rural homes. Grandpa was very well behaved from that day forward...lol She was a tiny terror, but she was my spirit animal.

My grandparents were married for 62 years. They had 8 living children (3 stillborn as well) and ran a very large farm. They were married "later," in their late 20's. When they passed away (grandma lived to 91, grandpa lived to 105), we found a postcard from grandma to grandpa from their courting days. Grandma had written, "Thank you for coming to church to watch me play [the organ]. I'm sorry I was so crabby." I got a petty story from my grandmother 😂 I’ll forever remember this. So when I was born, my grandparents (both from my moms and my dads) were coming to the hospital to see me. My grandmother from my dad side was making her way out when my grandfather was trying to get in. For a little context, my grandmother and grandfather (from my dad’s side) are not together and they don’t like each other. They had a very messy relationship but they were both there for the support of my dad. So, my grandfather ( my dads side) was having a hard getting inside the hospital because they weren’t allowing him in unless my dad was there to confirm. (None of them had phones, it was 1991 and he lied to the nurses saying that he was my mothers dad) when he saw my grandmother, he pointed her out that she knew him. the nurse had asked her if she knew my grandfather, she gave him the most passive face ever before saying to the nurse “I have never seen this man before” and walked away. He didn’t get to see me until later that day, my dad was mad but my mom was laughing about it. I love my grandmother lol ❤

He kept telling the neighbors to keep their rabbit out of his garden because their pet rabbit was destroying the stuff that he was growing. They would not listen. Finally he told them that next time the rabbit comes in to his garden that he's having rabbit stew. my late grandma LOVED Christmas and Christmas decor. my grandpa once made a comment about how she had SO MANY tubs of the stuff, that she needed to go through it and get rid of some (for context, my grandpa was and still is just as bad of a hoarder). granny was mad, but she obliged and ended up giving my mom 6 large totes of the decor. Apparently, it wasn't enough for Pawpaw. He said she needed to get rid of more and that, in his opinion, she shouldn't have more than 3 totes of the stuff... Later as we all went into the living room on the tv stand there was the box the 'fruit cake' had been in and it was facing the side that in big white letters read 'christmas pudding'. My grandad was smug for the rest of the day.

I once made a from scratch lasagne for my ex husband. I made my own pasta and roux-based white sauce and red sauce with fresh herbs. My boyfriend at the time was a guy I had been in a relationship with on and off for years. He would get mad at me for random reasons and break up with me for basically no reason. For example, he broke up with me at a dance because I was “acting weird”…I was dancing…at a dance. How is that weird? He didn’t like my personality and wanted me to essentially be submissive to him but I didn’t know that at the time because I was clueless and desperate for a relationship, even if the person was literal trash to me. We weren’t together for a while and he had just asked me to take him back. I was in 8th grade at the time, so 13. He said that he had changed, blah blah blah, same crap, different day. I was apprehensive but decided to give him another chance. Immediately after I took him back, I felt this uneasy feeling and regretted my decision. I get home, call my nana and talk to her about it. I tell her that I didn’t want to go to school the next day because I needed a day to just rethink my priorities because clearly my priorities weren’t in the right place at the time. She asks my mom for me if I could stay home the next day and my mom said I could but had to do chores, which I was more than willing to do so I didn’t have to see him. I spent the entire next day cleaning, jamming out to break up music (because angsty dramatic teen) and crying. 😂 but most importantly, scheming.. The next day, I get to school, get some breakfast with my friends and he comes up asking where I was the day before. I told him I was sick (of him 😂). He asks me if I was okay and I answer coldly saying I was at school so obviously I am okay. He looks at me completely confused over my sudden change in behavior. I was never allowed to be upset in front of him and if I ever was, even if it wasn’t about him, he would dump me. Never noticed that until that point. I ask my friends if they wanted to go to where the snacks and sodas are and they agree to go. He asks me if he could come and I tell him no, just the girls. Adding to the fire. I’m sitting in the student union, where we have snack and soda machines, with my friends and they ask what is going on. I tell them how I had a plan to get him to break up with me because I wanted to test a theory. If he really has changed then maybe he won’t react the same way by breaking up with me when he senses even an inkling of apprehension or “I’m acting weird” in his words. Crazy? Maybe. That’s what my friends thought until this happened… His cousin walks into the student union and tells me that he told her to tell me that “I was acting weird and that it is over.” Bingo! Theory has been proven and I honesty felt like I was on cloud 9 because I didn’t feel like I was the crazy one for once. He always made me feel crazy and would even call me crazy. When in reality, he was manipulating and trying to control me to be his idea of a perfect girlfriend. Quiet, small and submissive. I remember the looks on my friend’s faces and I smiled replying, “You can tell him that I am crying my eyes out and wishing we could have stayed together. Please emphasize that I am crying my eyes out.” I honestly think that last part was definitely me being crazy but I was living in the moment. She walks away to give him the message and not even a minute later he comes marching in, completely upset and glaring bullet holes into my smirking face. He asks sarcastically, “you’re crying, huh?” And I reply with, “like a baby.” He growls and stomps off. That was the last time we ever got together. After that day, he hated me and I was perfectly fine with that. He would try to flirt with me from time to time but I would pay no attention to him and that would drive him crazy but I didn’t care. He didn’t have control over me anymore. ❤

My favorite petty moment as a cashier was when this family of grown adults was incredibly hateful and disrespectful, talking about how slow I was because they were in a hurry, making rude remarks and just talking crap. It was instant karma my friends, because it ended up that they needed change, and I had to call a manager to bring more change up...all for some pennies. They kept belittling me, and even had the AUDACITY to ask if I had change that I could just give them so they could be on their way. Right 😂 because I'm gonna go out of my way for you after you were jerks? Haha, think again, Karens and Kens! 😂 I made them wait for their change. It was only like 3 cents too. Sucks to suck! Bahahahaha.

My mom told me that not long after they got married, my dad complained about how she did his laundry. So she said if you don't like the way I do it, do it yourself. She NEVER did his laundry again.

When I was a waiter at Chili’s, there was a table with a 16-year-old girl and it was her birthday. She was there with her parents and her friend. And let me preface this with the fact that I’m an extremely patient and respectful person and this girl ordering me around like I was her personal slave. She wore my patients down to zero and at the back of the house I actually called her a bitch, which I would never do normally. And I told all the waiters that I wanted to do the stupid birthday song we have to do, but I want everybody to come with me and to sing as if they were singing to their own personal table a.k.a. at top of their lungs. And I literally got everybody but one person to come with me, because that one person had something else to do first and didn’t make it in time. The 16-year-old girl slowly went from being Caucasian to completely red. Her father thanked me and I gave him a wicked smile and said you’re welcome and he knew I didn’t do it out of kindness.

The tomato sauce has to have some sugar in it to balance the bitter/acid from the tomatoes... It's also how you keep it tasting fresh even when you re -heat it afterwards. This is cooking 101. Source: Am Southern European and grew up with everyone and their mother doing it that way.

My granny worked in a shop called Austin's in Derry city when she was a young teenager. One night before closing she was asked to clean and wax the flooring. The next day the manager told my granny off telling her she didn't clean the floor properly. My granny apologised and said she'll try her hardest that evening at closing time. The next morning as the manager was walking into the shop they slipped and fell flat on their back, because my granny REALLY waxed the floor to the max!! Lol there was more things my granny done that were beyond petty but that had to be the greatest she ever done in her lifetime!! 😂

In the early 1950's my grandpa was teaching my grandma to drive. They were driving down one of the biggest hills in my hometown. He was yelling at her for something she was doing/not doing while driving. She looked at him and said "Yell at me again and I'll park this car and never drive again." He yelled again, she stopped the car in the middle of the hill and NEVER DROVE AGAIN. They both passed in 2011 and that will forever be one of my favorite stories about them. #mygrandmaisapettyqueen

I think the pettiest thing my maternal grandma has ever done is to her late husband’s parents. They were really abusive to her and they bought a family plot before they died and my grandma has the remaining four plots. They were also incredibly racist so my grandma sold the plots right next to her mother-in-law to a Vietnamese couple. She always looks so smug when she tells the story.

Had a friend whose grandparents bought 6 plots for them and their two kids + spouses. Grand ma died and was buried in plot #1. Grandpa died and his wish was to be buried in plot #6 so he wouldn’t have to be next to her for eternity. 😂😂😂

My grandpa had hearing issues. We all called it selective hearing because sometime he heard fine. I was visiting one day and my grandma was yelling for him in the kitchen. Very loudly. I was across the living room from him and almost whispered, "hey grandpa", he immediately turned to look at me and asked what I needed. To this day I'm convinced he could always hear her😂

My Mom was a prankster and petty so imagine that mind and the way it works. She had quite the extensive list of dinner meals. Every now and then she made salmon pattie which of course looked pink. One night her boyfriend made a comment about pink food, I don't remember much but I do remember that the next night she made the salmon patties again and every food on the plate was pink, I can't remember if it was rice or mash potatoes but they were pink and she also had beets which are pink/red - she hated beets but that wasn't the point. Oh and we also got Nestles Strawberry Quick for our drinks. LOL Miss her.

My great grandma wanted a fireplace. My great grandpa continued saying he'd get around to it for however long it took to run out my great grandmother's patience. The next day he came home to an axe in the wall and she said "I would like a fireplace right there." She had a fireplace by the end of the upcoming weekend.
