Hi, I'm Charlotte Dobre. I'm an actor, reactor, singer and sometimes (not really) comedian. On this channel I do reactions, commentary and occasionally I make a joke or two. I love poking fun at social media, weddings, entitled people, tiktok and OF COURSE petty people. I upload daily, usually 7 days a week, unless life gets crazy or I get lazy. Come hang out, it's a good time.

There is such a difference between having a broke friend and CHEAP friend. A friend down on their luck will try and make sure they appreciate and return gestures. A cheapass will just drain you because they see a deal or an opportunity.

This! Due to life circumstances i have unfortunately been the broke friend more often than not. I am always looking for ways to show appreciation and to pay back when i can. I would never expect someone to cover me without an offer from them. This kind of attitude horrifies me and i really hope i have never left anyone feeling used.

Omg!! My BIGGEST pet peeve!!! The passive aggressive "asking"!!!!! If you need/want something, ASK!!!! Ive had people do that exact thing to me. "Ohh. Uhhhh. It sucks. Its raining. I guess I'll be walking home in the storm....." You pull that crap, i will look you dead in the eye. "yep. Guess you are. Try not to drown". If you ASK!! "Hey. Its raining. Could you give me a lift?" In a heartbeat!! "Sure. Get your butt in the car"

About 6 years ago, a friend of mine opened a Korean BBQ place. Occasionally, he would text and ask if one of us could check in when he wasn't there to see if the service quality was the same or if they were putting on a show for the owner. He was very clear though - just go and have a meal with your family and email me the bill and I'll pay you back for it. No confrontations, no asking for weird menu items, no being fussy customers - just be normal and essentially act like a secret shopper. He would only ask one of us to do it maybe once every 6 months after the first year, so it wasn't like he was trying to spy or anything, he just wanted reassurance that his staff were as great as they were when he was there. The last time I audited for him I watched as this group of Karens came in and were like "We know the owner, you'd better be giving us VIP treatment, etc..." they were possibly the worst people I'd ever seen in a restaurant and I had worked as a server before. I asked our server if these people were regulars and the server said yes and the staff always tried to bend over backwards for them as they knew the owner. After our server left I call my friend and put him on speaker so he could hear them and he pretty much said "Hell no!" When he heard the way they were speaking to the wait staff. He asked if I'd buy them a round or 2 of drinks (which we did) so they'd stay a bit so he could make it in, and oh boy when he got back he threw those Karens out on their butts so fast. He even took their pictures and said they were being added to the 'no serve' list. Apparently one of them was his Auntie and the others were her entitled friends, he pretty much exposed her behaviour to his family. It was my last time helping him audit as his arrival and my buying the Auntie drinks exposed me and he told his staff why I'd been there and that he had secret shoppers come in every 6 months or so and that's why some of them would get bonuses around that time. Was really funny next time I came in and had to tell the server not to worry, that I wasn't a secret shopper for my friend any more, the servers quite quickly started a joke that that was exactly what a secret shopper would say and every time I go there even now they all do fake winks and play up their service lines, like "Oh you call out if you need absolutely anything, if the food's even a degree too cold or hot let us know 😉" in over the top tones, it's so funny.

At a tea room, we’d have the same two British ladies book a ‘Princess Tea’ every Friday. They wanted tea decanted for them (they had tools to do it at table.) Scones reheated. Never tipped bc “it’s not our culture.” So basically all the servers took the hit (we still had to tip out the kitchen). One day, we were absolutely slammed. I was there solo with two six tops, and these two ladies were more demanding than both tables combined. They ordered extra and stayed two hours. My boss had to shut down her gift shop temporarily and step in as a server. When I burst into tears in the kitchen, I watched my boss march right out to ‘their’ (favorite) table and tell them to leave right there. They were so aghast. She just let it all out. “You never tip, you’re in America. You made my server cry. You expect more than 12 people combined. Get. Out.” It was beautiful. Love you, Beth. 💙

My mom immigrated here from Scotland as a teenager to be with my aunt, grandparents soon followed. And my family ran a gas bar/restaurant as their first business venture. I am happy to say we had alot of great memories in the restaurants we visited because we were non complainers and excellent tippers. To the point when we'd walk in, the staff would cheer 😂 even if the kitchen was having a bad night? They still got a tip. Because we know it's hard work.

Im a housewife with a lot of successful, well paid friends. I have never been called cheap before because 1. I look up the restaurant, club, bar, whatever and if i know its out of my price range i dont go. If someone offers to pay i make sure they know exactly when I'll be able to pay them back. 2. I dont ever expect anyone to pay for me. 3. I suggest days/nights out/activities i know i can afford. Nothing wrong with doing a girls day picnic. 4. I always make sure i have something to contribute to the guest of honors bill (birthday girl, bride to be whatever). Its ok to be broke. We all broke. Its not ok to expect other to pick up your slack.

Absolutely!! When I was broke( because I was a responsible single parent who paid her bills ) my best friend was quite well off. She would invite me to ‘the girls’ shopping trips and when I volunteered to get the morning coffee she’d thank me and then say lunch was on her. A nice way of keeping me included and allowing me to retain some dignity by contributing what I could and taking care of the more expensive item. Why is it when you are broke everything fits you like a dream and is in your colours?? 😂😂😂
@Just1Nora

Poor and cheap are two whole different things. The first one is a lack of funds, but cheap is entitlement and a lack of respect. A cheap person thinks a server doesn't deserve a tip for being busy or not getting their ice water filled fast enough or they "don't have the money to tip", or they always expect a friend to treat them to whatever it is they're doing together, even if it was their invitation. I survive off social security disability. Life isn't easy, but I tip well, make sure I can afford something if I go, and I keep a buffer for small splurging or emergencies. I am also generous with treating or helping my friends when I can. It's a difference in mindset. I find that people who have lived through hard times will often be the most generous with what they do have. I've had strangers buy me gas, but I've also given extra clothes, supplies, or rides to those in need. I carry first aid everywhere (nurse mom), and I've been the one to patch people up on the fly. That's just the right thing to do if you are able. Pampering a princess on the other hand? No. Find a sugar mama elsewhere because my bowl is empty.

I was a red seal chef for over 12 years. I worked in one kitchen where I was the number 1 and had a lot of authority over food. There was a couple that came in every Sunday after church and were the worst complainers. Nothing was ever good enough. When we were told they were there I took over cooking their meal personally. I prepared and even served the food to them. I stood beside their table and asked them to try it to see if it up to their standards. Knowing I was head chef with all my certificates and I told them I made their meal personally, they were very pleased with their food. I said to them, "That's great. So there will be nothing to complain about to get all or part of your meal comped today?" They paid and didn't complain but that was the last time we saw them after church.

I worked at a neighborhood Irish pub. It was a bit of a town favorite. To the owners credit, he was very hands on, he was there managing, running food and seating guests open to close nearly every day, and he would go out of his way to get to know regulars, which was about 90% of everyone who came in. Oh my gosh! We HAD a friend. She actually had introduced me and my husband. So anyway.... she was evicted from her CA bootleg apartment, and was homeless. She needed to start over. We helped her go from homeless to letting her live with us for 11 weeks, get a couple jobs, an apartment, and furniture. As soon as she left our house, she ghosted us. Never heard from her again. We discovered 2 YEARS later she had moved back to California and was doing okay. Happy she's okay. Still confused.

Story 1: no common sense or financial sense of responsibility. Spending $500 on someone’s bday is ridiculous. You don’t pay for drinks that you didn’t drink, you don’t pay $100 for an Uber to party . You don’t change your reservation for someone else, who can just skip the dinner or go home early. And above all, never let anyone eat your food instead of buying their own. One taste is fine but after that, their hand would be slapped.

That was close to 30 years ago and I never worked in any food service establishment again. I'm not trying to be rude, but being cheap isn't the same as being poor. The definition of a cheap person is someone who is stingy with money and refusing to pay their share. It's not about them not having money, but them feeling entitled to others. Cheap is a mentality more than a monetary value when it comes to people instead of objects. Again, I hope it doesn't come across as rude or condescending. I'm not trying to be sarcastic either, so I hope it doesn't come across that way either.

@@mynameisjustine92 nah paying your fair share has nothing to do with being cheap. Being cheap is how the rich get rich. Spend like your broke. The poor spend like they're rich. My parents because wealthy multi millionaires by being cheap and my mom still is. She still shops at cheap places, coupons and deals, she feels bad spending money on herself for expensive stuff but she buys us expensive gifts. What you're describing is selfishness and narcissism. Being cheap is a good thing, spending well below your means. It's also how I've been able to become a multi millionaire. And you're right, being poor and cheap are 2 different things. Being poor means you don't have the means to buy stuff. Being cheap means you do but you choose not to. It has nothing to do with fairness. I could go buy a Ferrari but I'd rather not, even though my car friends have been trying to convince me to get a sportscar for years. I like seeing my accounts grow while they're more okay taking out massive chunks for cars. It's personal preference. But when we go out in always the one paying more, getting them slightly nicer gifts for birthdays etc. I highly recommend being cheap lol
@mynameisjustine92
@mynameisjustine92 6 ай бұрын
@@Sickwitit18 In my original comment, I just googled the definition of cheap as it applies to people and shared it. I don't mean to say that saving money is cheap behaviour. You aren't cheap because you don't want a Ferrari or fancy things. You're cheap if you expect those things without paying for them yourself and have entitlement. (Not specifically you, just an example) Saving extra money and skipping unnecessary purchases isn't cheap, it's being money conscious. Cheap has a negative connotation when applied to people and I was trying to explain how being cheap isn't the same as being poor. I didn't want people who are saving money or who have lower income (and those who are forced to spend above their means to survive) to feel upset and think they were being called cheap in the video cause it's insulting to many. I'm not very good at explaining my thoughts though, so I'm not sure if it makes sense. Saving money, being poor and being cheap aren't the same things, in my opinion. I appreciate different perspectives though! And yours is definitely different since I'm a college student who is definitely not a millionaire! And probably never will be lol

@@mynameisjustine92 if you try to at every turn then you definitely can be! Have faith and put in lots of effort, I have faith in you! And that's weird, coming from an immigrant family, cheap is a good thing, not a negative thing. But looking up the definition you're right, it literally says "North America" it can have a negative connotation. Probably because our society is a market based capitalist society where nothing works if people aren't spending money. Very interesting how it specifically says it's a North American thing. If you ask other immigrant families I bet they say the same thing, that they're taught that it's good to be cheap haha. Being cheap = money conscious everywhere else in the world and don't let it have a bad connotation for you! You can do it, just don't fall into peer pressure or FOMO and do what you know is financially responsible!

Being honest, it's not always like that. Sometimes you just like the person more than they like you. They have closer friends and more important things to do. And it's okay, you don't have to be on everyone's number 1 list. If you have a friend who always just answers your invitations but never reaches up - accept it. I've had a acquaintance who was mad at me because I never reached out first. I just didn't thought of us being that close We had 1 hobby in common and lived not far away. But that was it. She was fine to get a walk once every couple of months, but she wasn't a person I would reach to if I had something happen to me. I had closer people. I never took advantage of her (like not paying my tab or wanting a favor), I just wasn't too invested in our relationship. And I've had friends who I've really liked, but they were just casual with me. That's okay. If a person is rude to you, asks you for things giving nothing in return or doesn't pay their part - then it's understandable to be mad. But I don't agree with "omg, he was such a bad person because I reached out to her and she didn't", as Charlotte also said in the video.

They understand the whole "out of sight, out of mind" thing, and don't take it personally if I don't talk to them for a while (because they do it, too). But if I'm friends with someone who normally speaks to me, and then they decide not to talk to me for a while? When I DO think of them, I'm going to think they're mad at me. And if they don't want to speak to me, that's their choice. That might be what's going on with your friend, because it does sound like she cared enough to put in effort for your birthday.

BUT because my mind is always whirring away about everything and everyone, all the time, I always feel like we JUST talked even if that was 3 months ago. That OR I’m always JUST about to call you when you finally call me, so now I feel guilty and fake telling you how I saw an orange peel last week and it reminded me of that time we ate oranges together and I started to send you a text but I tried to find a picture of the same kind of orange we had and got lost online blah blah blah... I am traumatized by “The Test.” It doesn’t work on me to say you’ve waited SO long and I never noticed your absence. It just makes me feel worse than I already did the last 5 times I started to get in touch but ended up yak shaving or talked myself out of it to put out some other corner of the dumpster fire I keep diving into. 🥵 But I will absolutely split the bill and help pay for the birthday girl despite being super cheap in my everyday life. But most of the time I just want to go for a walk and get ice cream anyway so… 🥵 Basically all my friends are the people remaining who will straight up find me without resentment or tell me they miss me and we need to make a date. Thank you for coming to my TED talk! Maybe now you’re as confused as I am. Goodnight. ❤

Ya see, I'm a no nonsense lady. If we go out for dinner and you say "oops, forgot my wallet" or some other stupid excuse, you get one. From that point on, I probably won't go out to dinner with you again. If I go to your birthday and get you a gift and pay for dinner but you don't even buy me a gift or show up for mine, your birthday is removed from my memory bank. I know some people are gonna say "Don't expect things in return" But it's an unspoken rule. If someone gets you something for your birthday, you do the same for them. If you're invited to dinner, eat respectfully and pay for your portion. Don't be late, don't try to change plans cause of just you. Be there on time and be a good friend.

So there you are, opening this fabulous gift while your friend opens the gift from the agreed upon $20 or less gift you brought. You put a lot of thought and hunted down just the right color, etc but it still just looks cheap by comparison. Are you now obligated to bring a "big" gift next time?

I was a bus girly for YEARS and the bus system where I live is trash so sometimes what would normally be a 10 min car ride was an hour on the bus, often with at least one transfer. It sucked but I did it. And if the weather was nice, I walked it. When I did ask people for a ride (or they offered) I'd slip them a $5 bill for gas when I could afford it, or if it was a coworker I'd buy them coffee the next day - some sort of quid-pro-quo. And if they said no, I moved on. It never hurts to ask, but putting people in an uncomfortable position just because you want to get home sooner is unfair.

I know a restaurant owner, family friends. We always pay full price, we always tip high and we dont annoy the staff. We have helped unload trucks, clean and worked in the kitchen. Those people are terrible people and friends to act like this anywhere that is owned by someone you "know".

I learned very early in life not to give random coworkers rides home. The virtually unknown person who is perpetually lost on how to get themselves home. It was uncomfortable for me at first because I'm a helpful person by nature, but when the people you don't know are brave enough to ask, you will instantly become their only way to get home from work.

As someone who can't drive, I never apply for a job I don't know how to get to on public transport.

I had a woman pretend to be my friend so I'd give her rides to/from work. She didn't live anywhere near me - I had to drive past work to get to her. It started as just occasionally, but ended up being 2-3 times a week. It turned out that she was living with her parents. She didn't have her own car, and her parents didn't want to drive her or have her drive one of their cars. Once I stopped driving her around, she wasn't my *friend* any more.

Hey guys! Am I the only one who is mesmerized by these girls putting on their makeup while telling their stories?! Seriously… how can they do that without missing a beat,or a stroke? Very impressive!

What do you mean without missing a beat? That video had so many cuts, edits, and skips that I thought it would send me into a seizure. I'm not even sure what she was talking about, it was so distracting. Had to skip her after about 2 minutes of that nonsense.

I agree I find it distracting -- and my husband has said that it is really disturbing trend -- and he doesn't watch the same videos I watch.@@igoritzelf

I find it kind of repulsive. It's like watching someone use the toilet. We know they do it but we don't want to watch. Then when they are done they look like they are wearing a plastic mask. I don't get it.

@@christinedehn3257 Exactly. Why anyone would want to watch someone else put on makeup is beyond me. Plus, the gals put on SO MUCH makeup and usually they are drop dead gorgeous and don’t need any makeup. I don’t get it.
