@@rhett1592 Problem is that Omega was first introduced in heroes and we all know that the writing quality started to wither In heroes (no offence) meaning Omega doesnt get alot of details or much depth like gamma and the amount of times he's introduced in games (even 06) barely any build-up or flesh out his character, we also cant bring the comics at play as their non-canon.

I was curious whether that was true or if he did visit every section, so after some quick checking I came to this conclusion: Aside from Hot Shelter, Super Sonic's story, and the sand boarding sub area, Sonic does indeed visit every section of every other characters' stages, with the exception of the hall of mirrors area in Amy's Twinkle Park and under the water in Big's Ice Cavern(if you want to count that). (Special mention also goes to Tails's Casinopolis, which Sonic can enter, but is never required to do so in his story.) Aside from those, every other section that makes up another character's level is a part of Sonic's level. (Roughly speaking. Some areas are changed quite dramatically from Sonic's version, such as Knuckles's Casinopolis or Big's Emerald Coast.) Like I said, I only quickly checked this out, so I may be wrong.

@@Riley-u8m I thought the same thing, but apparently Big's Emerald Coast is based off that area in Sonic's stage where you jump up with springs in order to get to the lighthouse. You can even look up and see the pillars holding up the catwalk leading to said lighthouse.

@@Riley-u8m big emerald coast is a bit before the halfway point, with the rest of the level that should be in the background removed (like in gamma's version) the only level that is substancially different is tail's speed highway, and some of that is due the pathing needed for eggman, and a part of amy's final egg which is unique to her

I am convinced with the amount of things he can lock onto including the egg viper that most of gamma's story was secretly shelved, like seriously, he mentioned eggman as enemy but never fights him. Combine that with locking onto things he NEVER interacts with and it's just much of a coincidence. Or hell, maybe it's just for testing, but it just feels weird.

So on the note of the switches that Gamma can lock on to, he actually needs to be able to. He has some of those switches in his story, and for his version of Hot Shelter, there's a point where he needs to lock on to one of those switches instead of physically pressing it in order to move on. So it makes sense why he's able to lock on to those same switches in other stories.

That past Amy section is interesting, being locked behind her upgrade. I had the opposite happen once with Tails, I completely skipped picking up the Rhythm Badge and finished his story without it. I've never been able to replicate it and I wouldn't have ever thought that to be possible (no mods, 360 version) but it happened, now I wanna see if I can do it again. It's so interesting seeing little things about the game you'd never otherwise know based off the correct way to play

Unlikely. That would mean that the rolling is simulated each time it spawns. More likely it is hard coded in the game. Collision probably exists because its the default property of an object in game

There’s a ridiculous amount of stuff in this game that has collision. Ever go out of bounds on the egg carrier? Most of the ship has walkable surfaces. It’s a miracle that despite all these bewildering design quirks and programming oversights brought on by lack of experience, Sega still managed to get actual physics and momentum down almost perfectly, and haven’t really topped it ever since.

1. Ok, the Tails part does seem kinda silly. ^^; I understand why you did it, but I don't think it was a good idea for this challenge. It just feels weird. 2. I think what Big is doing in Casinopolis is trying to spin dash - Sonic would usually spindash up those slopes, and that uses the action button. Big's action button? Trying to cast a line 3. Amy's story is short and sweet. Like Amy! ^w^ 4. So E-100 Zero vs E-102 Gamma ;) 5. Zero confirmed for best E-Series bot.

I mean...if there was some kind of hitbox editor for characters in SA2 then you could have pretty much Gamma in there because you already have the Physics editor which has Gamma in it and also a port of the Gamma model so...

I think the main problem with that is that Gamma is basically a slightly more maneuverable (but weirdly slightly less capable) mech like Eggman and Tails have. And although I don't think anybody's ever put in a good try to see if the mechs can complete all levels, SA2 has levels that are much more character specific and not shared by multiple characters. For example, there's a video about doing the entire Hero's Story as just Rouge and a) she can deal with Knuckles's stages basically fine, b) the Tails stages basically lock her out without some clipping on a couple of them, and c) some Sonic stages are somewhat possible early on but it quickly becomes much trickier. Like and in the case where some things are possible (outside of treasure hunting) it tends to use some fairly exotic skips that are hard for humans to even pull off. Like Sonic's Crazy Gadget is basically only possible for Rouge if you do a version of the speedrunning strat where you clip through an early wall and fall through almost the entire level without much visual indication of what you're doing and touch the Goal Ring. Except for Rouge you have to clip through an early wall and use an infinite glide trick (which involves frequent frame perfect inputs) with the same general situation. And that's for Rouge on Sonic's stage, in comparison to the mechs Rouge and Sonic have almost identical control schemes and methods for interacting with a stage. With a mech some of that stuff would be unthinkable.

On part one I left a comment with some of my theories as to why certain things happened from the perspective of knowing in general how games are made (with the caveat of not knowing how to access the debug mode and not having access of the source code for the game). Before I say that though, I definitely would really love to see an Amy playthrough because it seems like, despite my personal feelings, Gamma proved to be sort of disappointing. I also speculate that Knuckles is probably the highest % completion you could achieve with one character since he would be able to do all of Gamma and Big's stages, he has the same physics as Sonic while running and can glide to compensate for Tails's flying or Light Speed Dash sections, and of course can collect all his emeralds without a problem. So that's an alternative. * My theory about the Sky Deck issue is that it probably has something to do with the fact that only Sonic and Knuckles are supposed to go there by default. When Sonic goes to Sky Deck, that part of the level has an entire scripted sequence where as you go through each area the gravity shifts to give the impression that the Egg Carrier is banking. If I remember, it's like the first area is normal but once you get to the monkey bars that's when it flips around and then you have to make your way to the button to shift back. I imagine that this scripted sequence is done through what is commonly called a "trigger", which is like a collision box that instead of being a solid object will execute a code block when touched by a character. When Knuckles spawns in however, you're supposed to just have control of this via the lever, so what they probably did was make a specific exception for Knuckles. You see this a lot in the game where there are special cases made for certain characters who share the same part of a level, and then some default behavior for Sonic. In these cases, any character not explicitly defined in the stage behavior will use the default Sonic configuration. My guess is that when you enter the stage as Knuckles this isn't immediately activated, but as soon as you switch to Gamma and the game detects the collision the script plays out. I also imagine that the reason the lever can still effect the tilt to some degree is because both are probably based on raw rotational values. * From the looks of it, in Amy's Hot Shelter the issue with the ladder probably isn't that Gamma isn't capable of pushing the stairs (although it is possible) but it looks as though it's a quirk of his weird collision that is making that action impossible. Similar to how he can barely stand on the stairs or that one ramp from Sonic's Sky Deck. It is strange that you fit in there at all, my only guess on that is that Gamma is actually fitting between the ladder and the wall in such a way that he can't fall out of bounds, but such that his box is partially clipping both ways. When you then turn towards the ladder and attempt to push it, the game tries to compensate to push you outside of the ladder collision box which then causes the wall to push you outside of it's box etc. So Gamma is just kind of in this limbo, and the solid force to actually push the ladder is never signaled. Also as others said, the Lost World boxes are probably left over from dummied content and the switches are actually used in his own stages.

I'm almost certain a lot of the challenges written off for the sole reason that Gamma can't lock on to something COULD be done with that powerup, as useless as it is in casual and speedrun play.

It's being written off because it doesn't exist. There's no Vulcan Cannon in Sonic Adventure 1. That only exists in Sonic Adventure 2 for Tails and Eggman. Gamma's only power-ups are the Jet Booster and the Laser Blaster, and the only thing the Laser Blaster does is cause an explosion when your lock on shots hit their targets, allowing multiple targets to be destroyed with a single shot if they're close together.

I have a theory that Gamma's hitbox is different from other characters as a result of his "running mode" which causes a lot of the clipping through the floor when going at high speeds and not being able to stand on the Sky Deck pillars. I tend to think that the other characters are like cylinders while Gamma is a cone with the point facing downward, the thinner geometry could explain why these things happen to him.

Okay… so I have a theory… maybe the reason people like big can hit bosses and gamma can’t (even though there’s no way they’d be fighting them) is because they just re-used. The same “hit” effect (script… thingy) for all the melee attacks (maybe with some damage modifiers slapped on for powerups and what have you) while gamma has a mostly unique damage method, this could also, in a way, explain why gamma can lock on to the boxes in other states as well, they didn’t bother making “new” box mechanics for the stages so they just re-used the generic box script(?) for all the stages. So gamma can target those because he can target the regular boxes.

Other characters can fight the E-series robots because they're normal enemies that have normal health Gamma's shot is an attack that does normal damage, it just has a unique use that enemies need to be coded for

Fun fact: When you first come to red mountain, first shard IS always in ground... However if you quit the game and then return to adventure mode and return to Red Mountain, it will be fully random, that's how I Collected all shards as Knuckles without using his abilities(Glide, dig and punching). It's super fun trying to do the game without using character abilities you should try it. So far I did Tails, Amy, and Knuckles. Tails is mostly doable, heck you can even beat Egg Walker without tail attack, you jumping on the leg counts as doing dmg. Only time you need to use abilities is the last stage vs Eggman, you can only do half the stage on legs and half you'll have to fly which is Tails ability. Amy is also 90% doable without her abilities, in 2nd stage there are couple of cranks but besides that it's ok. The boss however is problem, but not as much, you can drastically reduce your hammer attacks by half, you can BAIT Zero to jump into electricity, sadly you still have to use hammer to damage his brain. So instead of 6, you need 3 piko piko hammer attacks, plus hub world you need to win a wacko mole game with hammer and active hot shelter button. Knuckles is mostly doable as well, if you count climbing as cheating then no, but if you don't he's doable since you can always restart stage by quitting and then entering stage again. 15:40 Yes, you just have to quit the stage and re enter to randomise shard placement. That's how i got Red Mountain and Sky Deck favourable placement

12:27 It' something to do with the partner character, they don't usually spawn in character battles. I was playing through Tails' Story as Sonic. I ended up facing Gamma and a second Sonic (I didn't know how to change my partner character). The interesting thing was, every time Gamma tried to lock on, Sonic would charge a spin dash, and when he tried to hover, Sonic would do a homing attack. I realized that you partner mimics the enemy's AI. In your video you had Big, and he was just sitting there fishing which, so I assume the same thing was happening to you. And yes, at the end of the fight, the game crashed.

This makes me wanna see a proper mod that makes the _entire_ game actually playable as Gamma. Y'know like, collision fixes, the ability to lock on to enemies and bosses, higher speed for Sonic/Tails levels when necessary, shit like that. I feel like that'd be really fun. Also that weird first person glitch on that one level really makes me want an fps where you play as Gamma, or maybe a first person mod to work with the other potential mod I mentioned.

These videos are so cool! It's so crazy to see what things are (and aren't challenges), I swear it's the weirdest things! Every time you play as Amy to get through a boss or mention about how you wish there was more gameplay, it makes me curious I admit, haha. I think most things would be possible. While she's not as fast as Sonic, she is the right size, and she has some forward/vertical momentum via her Piko Piko Hammer. However, when it'd come to long gaps, I think that's where the issues would really creep in... Totally awesome, thank you for sharing your attempts with us all :)

My theory as to why you can grab Froggy in Big's stages is that both Tails and Gamma grab Froggy to end a stage (Tails with Sandopolis and Gamma with Emerald Coast). When I did my playthrough as only Tails, I tested if you could grab Froggy as other characters and you could, but it would only spawn in when I switched to Tails or Gamma and moved my camera so Froggy was offscreen and then back on. Anytime I would switch to a different character (other than Tails and Gamma) and move offscreen, Froggy would despawn and I would have to restart the stage. Even switching back to Big meant he would despawn. So if you do an Amy, Knuckles, or Sonic playthrough, keep in mind you might make Froggy cease to exist

Ahhhh so skipping the Hammer Game causes the same effect... well that proves a theory. About 15 years back on the DC I exploited an already known glitch for bypassing a door early so I could get Knuckles to enter Sky Deck without triggering a short cutscene and the Egg Carrier transformation before hand. After completing the level and arriving in the past, I discovered the exact same problem you had with Gamma/Amy, the triggers are not loaded. Now you've found the same issue skipping the Hammer Game confirms that it appears skipping a flag before a level that immediately precedes The Past sections causes the triggers to fail. Now we need to experiment and see just what sequence breaks do what, whether there's more effects to skipping flags, or if it's just limited to this particular trigger for The Past sequences.

"Big would go into his Rod Casting animation, and then jump forward." - This is because Big is mimicking Sonic's AI. Sonic is programmed to use the Spindash and jump in certain areas to get a big burst of speed. But when Big uses the action button, he doesn't Spindash, he prepares to cast his lure. This however does not result in a speed boost. Fun fact: You can break Sonic in certain levels by exploiting the AI. Casinopolis being one of them. if you can get out of the first room fast enough; Sonic will get stuck in a loop; where he Spindashes, jumps, land almost instantly; and repeats this process while going up the ramp. As a result; he'll get stuck for a long time until he clears the ramp. "Why the stone structures have collision on top of them." - If I had to guess, Sand Hill during development was probably meant to be Sandopolis, as it's located near Angel Island Zone; but the final game limited it to just a quick minigame. They have collision, because it was likely intended to be a full stage for either Tails or Sonic. This likely also explains why Sonic can play the minigame, despite never playing it in the story mode. "Knuckles can hurt the E-Series, and Chaos would infinitely shield against Amy." - Again, just theorizing ideas; but it seems to me; that if the bosses have different programming to interact with other characters, then either they are just latching onto different pieces of the code, or they were originally intended for that character at some point. It's possibly during his campaign; Knuckles would've fought the E-Series invading Angel Island; and Amy might've faced Chaos 2; but that's just theorizing not confirmed. It is interesting though; that Chaos 2 constantly shields against Amy, because in Sonic the Fighters; Amy's AI was programmed to shield constantly. This could just be a coincidence; but it's still very interesting.

From what I saw, Gamma can actually finish 2 Big levels, and also Amy's Hot Shelter. With Big's Emerald Coast, and Amy's Hot Shelter you can go out of bounds, and go to water in Big's case, or skip the cranks part in Amy's part. With Big's Hot Shelter Froggy spawns even if you didn't pressed the water switch.
