To counter the "fire under water" sin, I believe there is theory. I'm going off of memory, so correct me if I'm wrong. If I recall correctly, someone stated that Blaze's fire could be like magnesium. Magnesium can burn underwater, only if the fuel oxygen is present. That also explains why Blaze can swim even though she is a cat. It also explains why she's afraid of heights. Higher altitudes means lower oxygen levels, meaning she can't use her fire powers effectively, if at all. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk!

I actually love this theory, but unfortunately according to the Sonic Rivals storyline Eggman Nega is actually a future descendant of regular Eggman, and harbors a resentment towards him because he feels his failures permanently damaged the greatness of their family name or something dumb like that. This also negates any logic or reason for his presence in Blaze's world. I'd've preferred if Sega had just left Nega the way he originally was

That doesn't mean Eggman actually defeated her. He stole the emeralds, Blaze followed him and she got caught off guard by the light from traveling to another dimention, nothing even implies that Eggman defeated Blaze prior to the events of the game.

In regards to Sonic and Blaze, Blaze being a princess and Guardian is the direct polar opposite of Sonic being a free spirit with NO responsibilities. Sonic being the "Guardian" of the Chaos Emeralds would be counter-intuitive to who Sonic is and what the Chaos Emeralds are and how they function. Neither Sonic nor the Emeralds are gonna remain in one place for long and can not be controlled. But, as stated in some thing related to Sonic Adventure, Sonic is the one who embodies the correct way of using the power of the Chaos Emeralds rather than 'mastering' their power with the Master Emerald, and Sonic taught Blaze how to do the same thing here. Blaze the Cat is the perfect transliteration of the polar opposite of Sonic.
