I remember when i was like a kid and got the game for Christmas. I always remembered how I got stuck on the Pokey Boss until I finally used the bat. I don’t know why but I enjoyed seeing Mario die due to poison in battle. I had a hard time finding a reason to play after the poison jungle

19:44 Actually you can find out the size of the "thing" stickers before you sling it based on the color around the thing's name. The game never tells you that's what the color means, but it doesn't take long to notice that the "things" in the same color always become stickers of the same size.

Like make it a different size or something, use an info blurb to convey size, make them relative to real life so you can estimate instead of complete guessing. It might be obvious to you what the colors mean because you’ve played the game before, but said game never actually properly explains what the colors mean to a first time player. If a player has trouble figuring out a game’s system and the game is not explaining them properly or at all, that’s not the player’s fault. That’s the game’s fault for not properly conveying it’s systems and how they work to the player. Sure the systems make sense, but it’s the fact they’re never explained is the problem here.

@@jakfrost574 seems like a common problem with the game is "how was i supposed to know that?". you are given patterns without being told those patterns have significance, you have to use the paperization mechanic with no hints of what to actually use and are punished for making the wrong guess, and you are never told what the boss is weak to until you are actually fighting said boss (with a consumable you may or may not have). in book of mario (a google translated version of paper mario), one of the lines was "if you take the wrong path, find out earlier", the context being how to get through eternal hell (forever forest). sticker star seems to be what happens when you take that mindset and apply it to the whole game

Extremely late, but I feel like the stickers could’ve had at least two things. 1) If you run out of stickers, there should _always_ be a jump action and hammer action. Maybe weaker since you ran out of stickers but something to make you want to keep battling, despite the lack of a leveling system. 2) Make the stickers have out of battle uses, like the jump stickers allowing you to jump higher, with maybe a risk of loosing the sticker or not. Or maybe a stronger hammer to destroy a boulder, and that hammer might break. I know bullshit on more bullshit but these are ideas. Just something that I figure that *_should’ve_* been added into the game. I’m not a game dev so I have no clue on balancing or anything.

I think I kinda knew because I would press A during parts of the Thing stickers' animations, and then I read a comment on a video somewhere that you can just mash A on most of them to get an Excellent. I think the comment was on Mankalor's perfect bonus video? There really should have been an NPC or a sign somewhere that tells you that you can perform action commands with Thing stickers, because some people would have thought that it was just a cutscene that they couldn't interact with. Edit: In retrospect, I probably should have posted my earlier comment when Chariii first released this video (I saw it when he first published it) so that he would have know for Color Splash. Chariii if you're reading this, sorry for not telling you when it actually could have helped you.

I think I learnt that Thing Stickers had action commands when I played the game for the first time when I was 12, and it may have been because of that one sign (I honestly can't remember, that was over 7 years ago for me at this point). I'm not sure how anyone figured out that the action command for the cake is blowing into the mic.

Know what, I'm glad I watched this. It just gave added reasons and confirmation that me giving up on the game early on was justified. I got fed up and hated both the battle mechanics and the overall sticker usage before even world 1's boss. I finally gave up on the game when I reached world 2 where I reached a puzzle using stickers to unlock a door or floor (I don't remember at this point) where I could not for the life of me figure out what it wanted from me and I realized that you can easily waste stickers on wrong attempts. That factored in with the growing disdain of the limited sticker space both because of the things and battle stickers using same inventory INSTEAD of separating them like ANY other reasonable RPG which made battles so tedious they were not worth it just was the breaking point for me. I have no idea how the hell they managed to make a game so user hostile, so unfun and so boring that it would not only cause a significant amount of people to hate it but actively stop playing or destroy it.

I played this game when I was like, 11-12. I got all the way to the final boss, but I never beat it. This game made me so mad, that when I died, I took out the cartridge, spat all over it, and broke it. That was back in like, 2015. I had totally forgot why I hated this game, until I heard the sins. It is actually possible to beat the Gooper Blooper without the things. When he is just about to spit poison at you, there's a chance that when you use the POW block, it can crumple him, making him lose 1 turn! Then use it periodically before each phase! Besides that, his attacks are fairly basic, and you can wail at him with your most powerful smaller stickers, a hopsliper is most advised because you can deal 10 damage on him without using up much space, but you can experiment... maybe. The poison shroom isn't that bad because it pierces through the Gooper Blooper's defense and deals an extra 8 hp or so each turn for a few turns without having to use an extra hopslipper. Also, if you do happened to get poisoned, there's a big 1-up sticker hidden in 2-1 which cures Mario of all status effects, including the extreme poison he spits at you! If you wanna beat it the fake gamer way, you can just use some infinjump stickers, which can be made manually in 1-1 through constant paperization of the linejump sticker.

Honestly, relying on RNG pow block crumpling, having stocked enough of them to reliably use them continuously throughout the fight, finding a secret hidden item *several* levels back and bringing it forward for this, on top of making an item specifically for this fight is still a stupid amount of preparation and requires knowing all of this prior to engagement, so I think Charriii's point is still valid, though it is unsound by your counterexample. Most players would not go to such lengths without intentionally taking that on as a challenge, and at that point you're doing more prep work than just *getting the Thing the devs want you to use, which imo defeats the point.*

Actually, there's a method to beat him on the first turn (and it's by far the easiest one to do out of the four bosses that you can 1-turn) Step 1: Get a bingo. Anything that isn't the poison shroom will work. Step 2: Use the boombox to raise your attack. Step 3: POW block him to make him crinkled (the first POW block is guaranteed to crinkle him) Step 4: Spam A with the Water Gun Step 5: Victory

Also, the unique way these bosses work and all of the different sticker types make this game strangely replayable. Like, there are so many different strategies you can use here once you know how they work and there's all sorts of hidden mechanics in this game that can totally break the game, such as the aforementioned infinjump in 1-1! Color Splash and Origami Kings mechanics have been simplified to heck, making them way less interesting to talk about. Don't get me wrong, the battle system here isn't good, but there's lots of room for experimentation still.

Nailed it on the fucking head with that description of the sticker system, I physically cannot understand why anyone thought it was a good idea, removing the RPG elements in a turn based combat system removes literally any point in doing regular battles, and the limited sticker storage for attacks makes bosses a game of trial and error, one where you never know what you're going to need until you get your shit kicked in, it isn't fun in any measure

What REALLY chafes me about all the shenanigans in this game is that it KNOWS it's frustrating, by way of all the times they say "Wow, that wasn't very fun, was it?" as if that absolves it of putting you through that frustration in the first place. Also, wow, 24:54 reminded me of how just much I wanted to BURN DOWN THAT ENTIRE FOREST after dealing with the Wiggler Segments. Also, also, this game gets Zero out of Five Luigis. coming back to this video 2 years later, after seeing Chuggaconroy's more recent sticker star vids, I now know it is possible to kill gooper blooper by just spamming things. Color splash really upped the anti by making the bosses unkillable until you use the specific thing required to win the fight. people have hacked that game to try to win without the required cards and the boss just doesn't die, they just continue using the killer move.

And they didn't even stand out in that level because that was also the first level to have Goombas in it. So if you remember anything about that level (which I only do because I played that game dozens of times), it's probably not going to be that there's a swarm of angry butterflies right before the goal ring. But yeah, shame on you for not knowing that this character wasn't foreshadowed in a 20 year-old game that had dozens of other more iconic and memorable enemy types in it.

30:15 There... is a way to cheese this boss. I've done it myself. The only issue is you need a boat load of coins, and its kinda complicated. *inhale* You need to buy the radiator thing, Oven Thing, and Hair Dryer thing. After that use ANY coins you have left to buy any fire related stickers like the Burn Hammer and Fire Flowers. Make sure you get a perfect spin on the roulette wheel to use 3 stickers at once. When using the thing stickers, mash A as hard as you can, because mashing does more damage when using those three things. After you have used the things, try the roulette wheel again to use more stickers in one turn, and keep using your fire related stickers, and make sure to do it perfectly. And after you have done all that, Just use whatever stickers you like, exept for ice related stickers because this boss is made of ice. If you get all the layers to break, and leave Mizzer Blizzard out in the open, you have won. *Large Gasp*

Looking back at this. There is practically no possible way for someone to know Flutter was a thing when this game came out. The only games where Flutter actually shows up is in the Yoshi's Island games and the Mario Party games Mario Party 5 to Island Tour at that point, with the exception of some other spinoffs. Flutter didn't show up in ANY other games for the duration of 2012. I actually went through the effort to check the release dates of every single game Flutter appeared in that was on the 3DS or WII, there was an entire year gap between Flutter's appearance in this game and Flutter's appearance in any other spinoff at that time.

@@christiansantiago5330 06 was an unfinished and rushed game with bugs and glitches, but it had so much potential of being a good game (the project 06 fangame explains the hidden potential very well because it fixed almost all the flaws the original had). The story was dark but well written (expect for the Sonic and Elise romance). The soundtrack was one of the best in the entire series. The gameplay was in adventure style which could have been great if, once again, the game wasn't rushed. The graphics were ok. That's all for Sonic 06. Sticker Star however, ohhhhhh BOY!!! Sticker Star has bare bones plot, the combat and sticker system were absolutely TERRIBLE, the creative ideas of this game were very poorly excuted (explained in the video. God bless you Charriii). On the other hand, the music was fantastic and the graphics were good. Here's the catch: Sticker Star is a fully finished game (with a few but minor bugs) while 06 isn't.

I played this game a lot as a kid, never got very far since I got stuck in the island after the poison place but it was fun to reset and do different things and collect the stickers/ us stickers differently each time.

Honestly the only good things about this game is the soundtrack and the visuals (one of 3DS games I highly recommended playing in 3D.) Other than that, this game is garbage lol

@Marshall Minter I don't think I've heard Charriii get this mad EVER and don't remember him getting this mad in Everything Wrong With Sonic '06 either.. I think. It's kinda terrifying, I'm concerned about him now.. and I haven't even finished the video yet (I only saw 10 minutes of this video, 10 MINUTES, for crying out loud). Edit: Yeah, the Sticker Museum rewards are kinda useless (the Enemy Gallery and Sound Test room), no wonder why he felt "defeated rage" afterwards (I might be wrong).

When he was describing the 100% completionist reward, he sounded so broken over how the system screws him over even when he collects everything. Truely the epidemy of a Kick the Dog moment. Also, Luigi did the right thing by spending the entire game on vacation. Ment, he didn't have to deal with this whole mess.

FYI: A common complaint you have is that you don't know how big a thing will be until you turn it into a sticker, but if you go to the thing section on the bottom screen, you may notice that they are different colors. These colors actually tell you how big the thing will be Red-large Blue-medium Yellow-small Not saying this is a smart way of doing it, but at least it exists (Colors may be wrong haven't played this game in a long time)

You know, I've heard about the magic system in FF8 and how garbage it is. And yet the sticker mechanic manages to be even _worse_ because in FF8 you can draw magic mid-combat. It's really amazing just how garbage the sticker mechanic actually is.

The real problem with FF8's magic system isn't the fact that magic is a consumable, it's the fact that you are encouraged to never to use it because the magic is much more effective as fodder to junction to your stats, and if you use the magic that is junction to any of your stats, your stats immediately go down during the battle.

You could also just use a Pow Block then the Boom box thing and then the Squirt gun thing on the first turn and after using the Pow block if you just spam the A button you just win very easily.

Fun Fact: there are a couple overworld spots that work with multiple thing stickers. A good example is where Charri5 used the goat. You can also use the vaccum there and I think there's a third one that works but I don't remember which one it is.

If the stickers were used as more of a customization option, adding buffs or elements to your equipment or attacks, that would have made more sense gameplay-wise and thematically. Stickers are used to decorate things, and are generally single use items. There could be a mechanic where you can attach any amount of stickers to an object as long as they fit and don't overlap. Smaller stickers allow you to add multiple effects that are less powerful, while big stickers have stronger effects with the tradeoff that you can't add as many. If you want to use a new sticker, you need to make sure there's room for it by removing older stickers that are discarded (since they're not sticky anymore). It could have been a lot of fun to experiment with as long as you were careful about what you threw away and how you placed your stickers to utilize as much space on a surface as possible.

The effects and damage can vary depending on what stickers you use. If it was an option in addition to the main battle system, it would be a neat little risk vs. reward mechanic.​

This game actually had a very interesting beta where the game was going to be an actual Paper Mario game, a true TTYD2 if you will, but they decided this was better... I could only imagine what could have been if that did happen, the story, the partners, the world, all of it could've been truly spectacular. EDIT: Here's a fun fact for y'all! In 5-1 you'll encounter a trash pit, and inside that trash pit are references to older Paper Mario characters including Goombella and Parakarry! It's kina ironic considering the direction the franchise took after this game... By the way, this was the last game in the Paper Mario series to reference Parakarry... What a sad way to go...basically death in a trash pit. Way to put salt in the wound, Intelligent Systems...
