Herbert not using his legs at all was infuriating. There probably wasn’t a chance in most cases, but not even trying to make plays outside of the pocket was insane. It is a recipe for disaster when rushers can just pin their ears back and now there is a statue in the pocket. Also, not QB sneaking when it was 3rd and one is disappointing when you have the biggest qb in the league. Obviously the team performed poorly on offense, but Herbert could have made himself a threat to put let pressure off of everyone else.
@Tincan53
@Tincan53 17 күн бұрын
Those were my thoughts as well. He didn’t run for a single yard when he is capable of chewing up yards like he did against the Raiders. It was insane not to have him roll out and make the decision to pass or run depending on what the defense gave him. Maybe it’s time to let Herbie start calling his own plays.

I still blame the OC for this. The pocket is messy. If he gets in the habit of pulling down the ball before the play develops, it will be bad. All season I don't recall plays where they intentionally rolled out the QB to give him an option to RUN. I don't remember once where they intentionally did that. One of the picks was him rolling RIGHT and Throwing Left. If that was designed, that is ridiculous. Also he's always been a PASS first QB. That PAIRED with Long developing plays with was the result we got. When he takes off the READs were quick. That PAIRED with Long developing plays was the result we got.

Herb not using his legs was a dissapointment. Didn't Lamar with Roman run a lot? If you know your IOL is ass, roll Herb to the side and either throw or run. I knew the Texans D was in full force but damn, they just manhandled everyone NOT named Alt or Slater. Shorter routes would have been great too; dink and dunk. Derius Davis not involved throughout; should have been because QJ was missing.

Also I get that the throw to Ladd was high on the pick 6, and great job showing how he has to double clutch, but it has to be noted that it went right through Ladds hands. And not like fingertips or super high on the hands, like right between the meat of both hands. That has to either be caught or knocked down.

Has anyone else noticed this season that we've only played well against bad teams? We only beat 2 teams with winning record teams and one of them was barely 9-8 so only had a winning record due to the extra game added in recent years. When I was looking at the playoff bracket we got the only team I felt we even had a chance to win against in game 1, and they destroyed us. Our offense was flat, the O-Line was not doing great, which was not what it was the rest of the season, our running game wasn't even tried much, and even those quick passes that Herbert has relied on his entire career, and this season was no different, wasn't used much. The offense felt like it was put on Herbert's shoulders, which was not how we played all season. That being said, overall Herbert didn't play terrible, but he definitely did not play well enough to win a playoff game. And no, not all those INTs where on Herbert. We beat Denver (who was 10-7) and Cin (9-8). All our other wins were vs basement teams with 5 or less wins, except Atl who was 8-9. If we can only beat shitty teams, we don't belong in the playoffs, and it showed heavily vs Hou. Our offense is just not ready for good teams yet. This is nearly the same result as our last playoff appearance vs Jac, except in that game our defense scored more points than they did this game, while our offense fell flat in both games. Why we went completely off our entire season play style is beyond me. The first half we dominated on defense and special teams until the last 4 mins. Yet, our offense was not taking advantage of our constantly great field position. It was the same vs Jac couple years ago, Def and ST dominated first half until the last drive, while offense just wasn't capitalizing, same thing this game. Yes "Defense wins championships" but you still need your offense to do something to win in the playoffs.

@Chasedanielshow how do you reply to the critics hammering JH#10 so hard? It's like they don't want to give him credit for how much he HAS been doing for the last 5y. His arm and legs (aside from the TX game) has been keeping this team with more wins than they've "deserved" since he came into the league. I've pointed out to some that Peyton was 0-3 his first playoff appearances, including a 41-0 blowout by the Jets. (I think he ended up doing "ok", in the end. :) ).

What went wrong was drafting Quentin Johnson in the first round of the 2023 draft. Look! I don't wish bad upon players, but honestly, he can't contest a catch. It's apparent in most plays with the exception of week 18. Yes, I know, there is more work to be done for the team as a whole. But I'm sure most fans would agree, we should have been higher in this season's standings (11-6) if we had a legit WR1/2 receiver.

Herb is being crucified from all sides after this loss and the pulimg on is vicious. This is exactly the same defamation Peyton Manning went thru in his first years. Breaks nearly every record in the book, but went 0-3 in his first playoff games. looks the part, Cant win in playoffs, Cant lead, not clutch,loser,bla bla bla. The parallels with Herbert are uncanny. They said same exact shit about Manning and we know how that played out....Harbaigh will build a solid OL,receivers and a legit run game and Herb will shut em all up. Bank

Unless or until the NFL changes the QB protection rules, the best teams will have quarterbacks who have good mobility and know how to use these rules to their advantage. Pure pocket passers put their teams at a disadvantage with the current rules. If a quarterback poses no threat to run, the defense has an extra available defender in pass coverage. A pocket passer must have Tom Brady skills to make up for this.

There are two things that Herbert not only "missed" in the playoff game but the entire season as well. (1) A good Offensive line to provide him anything close to adequate protection (2) Receivers other than McConkey who can catch the ball. Additionally, the responsibility for this loss has to largely be placed on the shoulders of Greg Roman's terrible offensive play calling.

So many of these plays turbo has a clear path to get max yards on running up field. They seem to be trying to make Herbert a pocket qb , in my opinion that is not where he is at his best. I have seen him make more amazing throws on the run than I have seen him do from the pocket. We didn't have the inside line for Herbert to stay in the pocket. Yes. Justin Herbert WAS missing ONE thing in his loss -- a competent offensive coordinator who knows how to design competent offensive schemes! BELIEVE ME...Ravens fans were so sick and tired of Greg Roman it occupied all of the comment sections for years. It's NOT going to get better. Wait for the: "Oh, it's okay...Greg has plays in his box of plays he hasn't shown yet". Reality? Every once in a while he'd roll out a cool design, like the Triple Heisman design. Only to NEVER BE SEEN AGAIN! We call them the Greg Roman Houdini Plays. You see them once, then they disappear. It's never going to change.

It needs to be talked about more how little help Johnston is. It sucks because he seems like a really good dude, but he is the worst contested catch wr I’ve ever seen. He outsized that db significantly on the first pick. How can you not at least knock it down? I’ll give him one more year and if he doesn’t change we need to go another direction

Ha! Year after year of new OCs, learning their playbooks, abiding by their directives, allowing them to show their hand. All with prime players going on IR for much of the seasons, now having to train up Receivers scraped together on one-year deals for a re-build year. Geez! I truly hope there's an escape clause in his contract for next year. Then, watch the offers start streaming in. Herbert, you've been loyal and hard working and so talented.

Herbert is loaded with talent but never fails to play small when it counts.

Herbert is very talented but also his primary receiver is a rookie. No one else can catch the damn ball. The interior O line almost killed him too.

@JohnLee-ud2gm If you like a far more talented version of Philip Rivers, Herbert is your guy: same results.

@BOLTUPAZ The Commanders' rookie QB doesn't have tons to work with but he is already a better WINNER than Herbert is.

Herbert is overrated. He doesnt have the mental mind to stay calm under pressure. He panics and throws ints. Charges should trade him. He is a season QB not a playoff QB.

You obviously know little about football and even less regarding the QB position.
