Great bike! Yamaha hit a home run with this one! Most people don't realize there is a motoamerica twins cup class which was owned by Aprilia RS660. The first year of the R7 stole the crown from Aprilia taking the championship in the twins cup class!

OC here!!! I have an R3 so it's pretty in the middle between a supersport and a naked bike in terms of riding position. I'm happy cuz its the power is always there and tbh its enough power for the ocasional mountain riding I do (I mostly just commute on it). I think I would prefer a supersport over a naked bike only based on looks, but then again I've never ridden a supersport to analyse the riding position vs a naked (which I have ridden before). Super great video!! Always entertaining and educational!! LOVE the camera angles!!

If you’re primarily doing small commutes, you might want to try a supersport, they aren’t uncomfortable unless you plan to sit on it for a long time. Requires a bit more leg muscles to grip the tank but it becomes 2nd nature

Looks like a good bike for up in the North Ga Mts,my flashed R1 was useless up in the Mts but my Triumph Speed 1050 and Ducati Monster 1100 were perfect bikes up there. An underpowered bike with more TQ than horsepower is the perfect combination.

Fully de-restricted and tuned it's just as quick as 1,000 up to a little over 100 mph when the power of the 1000 keeps pulling and the R7 is reaching its peak

yup, but past 100 mph you might as well give up while you're ahead 😆 it does have decent torque in low end, which is nice for city riding

My R7 is a total weapon up there.. except I'm reaching the point where the power and torque can break the wheel loose exiting turns now! Traction control by wrist is the key.. with the right mods, the bike turns into a beast

I really dislike the twin engine sound. They look great but I will never buy one because the sound and performance of a 4 is what makes these bikes badass. The R7 doesn't even come close to replacing the R6.

How does a ZX6R compare to an R7 in terms of ergonomics? Seating position, peg position, clip on position, etc…

@@sleeper.simulant7327 R7 is slightly more aggressive seating in my opinion and slightly less comfortable. The ZX6R is incredibly comfy for a race bike and alot faster than a R7. Also the ZX6R is the most practical of impractical bikes. It has advanced abs, traction control, low power modes, and prevents wheelies. No other 600 bike is this beginner friendly yet full race bike. It's very forgiving.

@@butsargeee I haven’t ridden it but I’ve owned all sorts of bikes in my 20+ years of riding. Where the zx4rr loses me is it’s price point. It’s way too expensive for what you get hence why I called it a gimmick. The ZX6R is in the vicinity (cost wise) and is exponentially superior. The R7 is cheaper and has more torque and just as much HP with comparable chassis and suspension. If you want and like the bike, great! I hope it brings you a lot enjoyment. Just sharing my opinion

Im gonna have to humbly disagree that people shouldnt get this bike for comfort purposes... ive had this bike since january this year and have almost 4000 miles on it... and does it get uncomfortable? sure.. BUT.. for ME.. im 5'8'' and weigh 140... its only uncomfortable because i dont have tank grips on it and i have to constantly death grip the bike with my legs... ive taken this bike from myrtle beach to charlotte north carolina, and have ridden it for 5 hours in a day to the mountains and back.. i also daily commute my bike 45 mins to work and back... and first of all it is NOT hard to maneuver in traffic.. the exact opposite... now ive never owned a naked bike.. but i also dont like an upright seating position because its actually bad on my hips.. (sounds crazy but its true..) so the little bit of back pain i get after long rides is a better trade off than getting hip cramps after 10 minutes of being on a naked or a cruiser.. but I have ZERO problem maneuvering this bike.. in fact i rip through traffic probably way more aggressively than i should and I get away with a lot because of how sharp and confidence inspiring the handling is... and if youre gonna ride it slow speed at all, the trick i found with sport bikes is you have to lean them over just like you would in a corner and they respond like they would in a corner.. sitting up high trying to lock to lock turn a R7 is dumb... literally theres no point in that when you can lean it over... idk maybe im an odd ball on this one.. but i feel this is one of the best bikes someone can own... the powerplant is perfect.. its probably the better of the super sports for the price point...and the yamaha dealer network is substantial... Just my 2 cents..

OC: I honestly love the paint scheme in this bike 🤩 I'm actually not a huge fan of the CP2 motor, the vocals of the twin parallel exhaust just doesn't do it for me. But I would ride the R7 to work. I'm sure it's fun to ride in town. I started riding on a Ninja 400, and I prefer super sport ergos much better than an upright. To me I feel more in touch, in tune, and in control of a super sport. QUESTION: Was that paint color really only a hundred dollars more?!?!?!?

Owned it sold it already, got lucky and took a 1k loss on it. Get mt07 for commuting, fun engine but slow compared to everything except 400cc bikes ,hard seat , very small gas tank for and kind of traveling even small 3 hr trips you’ll stop a-lot (3) times. Great beginner bike that’s it.

I would love more comparisons with other bikes of the same class now that you're riding it again and had experience with the R7 competitors. Another thing is what sportbike would be good to put all your miles on (as far as i sold my car for a bike and i daily ride it would be nice to know a better option than any 400s)

I don't understand why they don't do anything else to the anniversary bikes other than give it a different paint job. Give it something else. Upgrade the engine internals, give it a different tune, give it a better suspension and brakes. Do something other than just paint.

I think the biker community has the same problem as the car community…. Hp crazy. Straight line stuff is cool but are you really going to push this bike as hard as it can be? You ever done 80mph through a tight turn? Can you wheelie? This bike lets you do all of that. I’ve had 1k, 750, 600 and nakeds. Had to put bikes down but i def had the most fun on my lower hp bikes and might get an R7 next 🤷🏽‍♂️

Since the MT07 2023 update will have a TFT display, can you get that or will yamaha upgrade this R7 to a TFT for the 2023 model. Or have they already done the upgrade?

Hope not, would raise the price for no reason. What do you need the display for? It has no special electronics, TFT for Speedo and gear and gas seems unnecessary

@@butsargeee if you've seen the TFT MT09 and this or even the MT07 and compared the displays side by side. The TFT hands down is more visible even in bright sunlight. It all boils down to preference anyways but regardless, given how the 2023 MT07 has been announced i'm expecting that yamaha to it regardless

How much work would go into installing an R1M display on an R7 or R3?

Probably more money than it's worth. I'd guess you'd be spending at least up to 1k for the display alone, and then only connect 3 from 50 things because the R7 or R3 effectively only have abs, tacho and traction control
