I once invaded as the fashion police for some friendly fun invasions, and when the hosts aggressed I'd self detonate with it. This managed to vigour check a few hosts unbuffed, surprisingly, so it's not necessarily without uses!

It shines in lower level invasions,it does around 1200-1300 damage which most hosts around lvl 40-60 won’t have so going in with a build like that one shots them 99% of the time since majority of them just assume youre buffing up lol

The regular black flame incantation is very powerful and has a lingering hitbox that can't be dodged out of. I always throw on on my own feet when people rush me and it will still hit if they roll.

Buffable Carian Thrusting Shield: for a Vagabond example you can do 60/35/25/20/40/80/12/7 at 200 which gives okay weapon variety overall and makes a Keen CTS have over 850 AR when buffed. You can also do 60/21/25/20/70/67/9/7 which cuts back on some Mind and Int for more Dex which still gives ~900 AR, makes lightning secondary options better, frees up the cast speed talisman spot, etc. etc.. Largely depends on how much actual casting you'll think you'll do

Once i built a character to use the Omen Cleaver w/ Stormcaller and Black Flame Blade and it worked nicely, now with the DLC and the Raging Divine Beast talisman does even more damage, kinda sad they didn't do anything new with Black Flame but the build is simple and spanks hard.

@kiltysalter2966 not really hard, the setup time is a bit faster than BFT even when accounting for the weapon buff cast, but the AoW is near instant cast so works when going around corners too

chase this video is awesome because ive been making a similar build, i also have a suggestion. there are lore connections with messmer and the gloam eyed queen, so maybe you could try a pyro build that uses both kinds of flame and see what combos work

you could use messmers ashes of war too for more mix ups, and the fireknight armor + messmers helm for increased damage if u wanted. sad that nothing increases black flame damage in the dlc :(

Could be nice you doing a build around Black Flame Blade. It's so cool and I'll enjoy you using this forgotten spell. A think it looks better in builds between Strength/Dex and Faith, something like: Strength: 60 or 80 Faith: 60 or 80 I think strength could be better 'cause two handed stance looks more optimal with it. You could use a Night Calvary Halbard or Fire Knight Greatsword. This last one can be buffed with black flame having native fire damage.

Even though I know its not that strong, I would love to watch you try and give deathblight to a few people. It is a very under utilised part of elden ring which makes me very sad, I love the way death lightning or eclipse shotel looks but you can never really use them. 12:57 It's really sad to look at the Impenetrable Thorns after the nerf. From the looks of it the wizard had a min-maxed build for that spell, and it did 5% of HP and 25% of bleed build up after a direct hit by multiple projectiles. Considering this spell costs HP and builds up bleed he probably did about the same damage to himself.
