We're back for more of our Chasing 300 series, and today we're breaking 200. When I say break 200, I don' t mean roll a 200 once, I mean get to a point where you're consistently bowling games over 200. If you can get a 200 once, you can do it again and again. We're taking a hard look at our mental game for this one. Let's get to it!

You're definitely correct. The higher you average, the more it becomes a mental thing. Sometimes it's throwing a bad shot, had a bad day at work, or even just not physically feeling well. The hard part is figuring out how to overcome them. And if you can't at the moment, don't get discouraged.

Ive watched everything in bowling since I started 3 years ago. This video has some great mentality highlights that are truly critical in any sport. After all Ive watched on KZbin Andrew came out good on how to approach your non physical game which is not so eloquently touched on with what Ive seen on this platform. I Hope everyone improves their game, and this is solid mindset. this is a great encouragement to the community, I suggest you like it and let more people find it. not a sponsored writer, just a guy who had a great time on his first fall league night. /endcringe

I do keep a game-by-game record of my performance. What information should be recorded in the notebook? I like what you're doing here Andrew. Keep it up!

I have a checklist that I go through and a pretty solid/consistent preshot routine. I normally average over 200, but sometimes, the lanes don't breakdown the same (most times). 6 strikes per game, 7 splits, and 0 missed makeable spares, The only thing that worked for me was switching to urethane. I finished game 3 with a 4 bagger to pull out a 201 game after rolling 2 170's. I noted in my journal which lane was jumping with reactive.

Last year I averaged 185 in league. Series ranged anywhere from 440-670. Just added a spare ball to the mix so hopefully I should be more consistent in converting makeable spares. Need for focus and consistency. Just shot a personal best 3 game series in practice this weekend

Im bad about overthinking and analyzing. That gets me into trouble alot, they say to leave your thinking at the table, great idea. Im famous for guttering after a double.

Thanks, Andrew. I'm relatively new to bowling (five months so far) and my average is about 170. But you're right, the main issue is missing spares that I should have made. I usually look at my games on LaneTalk when I'm done, and figure out what my score could have been if I'd made all the spares I should have made (I don't include splits in this cos I rarely convert them). My average could be about 20-25 pins higher. So my main focus when I practise/play is to relax, be consistent and try to leave no frame open. I've succeeded on a few occasions, and when I have, I've had games above 200 (high score of 234).

Yes, once you get the physical part down, are you mentally prepared to bowl.

Spare shooting is the most critical part of breaking 200 to me. Open frames absolutely kill score. When I am over 200, my spare shooting is good. When I fall under it is due to missing spares. I am generally in the pocket, but I tend to leave a lot of 10 pins when I am not striking. I am inconsistent in picking up those 10 pins. When I am doing a good job picking up those 10 pins, my scores are well north of 200. When I am missing those 10 pins, it can be brutal. This has become a major part of my practice sessions now so I can correct that.

i need to get better at my mental game and geting better at my 7 pin both cost me not to average 200 when i average 200. Ineed to get better at not being down at myself when i know im a better bowler then what i bowl.

Probably Detroit Metro. You might want to rent a car the rest of the way. Hope this helps.
