Chasing monster perch on Ullswater

Today we are fishing Ullswater in the lake district chasing after a specimen perch! With good weather and high hopes to begin we set off on our way. However the weather soon turned but did the mood? Will we catch or will the session be another blank in the books!

I started fishing again recently and I live about 5 miles from Ullswater. I've been up into Scotland 3 times this season, feeder fishing for bream, but I've had some bait left two of those times, and popped down to Ullswater to just use up my bait. Well the first time I was feeder fishing close to Glenridding, and caught one perch on the feeder with maggots, honestly it was about 1lb, and I had a couple more bites and that was it. But we went today, I was on the north shore about half way down the lake, and today I caught 5 perch, all about 10-12oz, just using a waggler. Always seems to take a while to get a swim going, but once it starts, it starts.... Cool video :)

What licence/permissions did you require for this please? I read you can fish ullswater free.

Hi mate, so to fish you just need a rod license really. That and paying for your parking at the launch site which was about £5 when I was last there. If your taking a boat make sure to be mindful of the steamers and respect their space 👍🏼 Tight lines 🎣

My line often twists when spinning like that, what do you do if anything, to prevent that ?

Hi mate, try tying a swivel quick clip onto your line and then clipping your spinner onto that instead 👍🏼

Thanks mate! You don’t need to pay to launch however there is a parking fee which is £5 for a full day, free after 6pm!
