Great episode as usual. Stoner was a great read. This is the exact reason why I postponed reading Babel. Waiting for the hype to die down and more reviews.😄 Don't worry Allen...I'm not part of the Sanderson or Abercrombie fandom either. We shall endure! I've taught in Japan, Australia, and Korea, and the horror stories I've heard from every single American teacher are exactly what Allens talking about here, particularly the politicization over every topic imaginable, handwringing over "Hey school shooters, don't do it! bad boys!! school shootings are against school policy!!!" As if those kids are going to listen. That or teachers buying supplies for kids out of their own pay, not being able to. I've taught in some insanely conservative communities in Asian countries and we were still able to talk about gay relationships without books being burned, the way the bastion of freedom of speech is going is horrifying.

Roy Dotrice is the best audiobook narrator I've ever heard. I've only listened to the first three ASOIAF books and he is just incredible, he fully commits to every scene, every laugh, cough, song, spluttering death. Only problem I had was the racist caricature voice for the translator slave in SoS. That was rough.

Just started reading «Sailing to Sarantine» by GGK (Book 1 in the «Sarantine Duology»), set in a fantasy version of 6th Century Byzantium under Justinian and Theodora. Returning to GGK is like a «Silk Baby-wipe”: So comfortable and so well-crafted, and I think it might be THE GGK book for Allen! Do not gamble or drink, but my inner crooner do wanna visit LV for the Musical Shows. What are you guys’ take on the recent announcements on Student Debt Reduction?

A few days late, but with 3 kids it's hard to get on the stream live. You are blasting through Bakker's work. It sounds like you've come to appreciate how dark this world is. I remember watching the discussion with Slowly Red and Shelf Unstable for The Darkness That Comes Before and how the general thought (paraphrased) was this is a brutal and unkind world. Any retrospective thoughts on the initial trilogy compared to where you are now?

I think Allen would like Stormlight becahse its literally shonen anime disguised as epic fantasy novels, like, Words Of Radiance is sooo shonen anime, thr ending is basically Dragon Ball Z type stuff hahahahaha but i love it!! Thats why i think it will work for Allen, jusr depends on if he'll vibe with the humor of Lopen, Rock and others.
