On the way to pick up Captain Kirk and Science Officer Spock from a peace conference, U.S.S. Enterprise chief engineer Montgomery Scott in temporary command of the ship faces mounting difficulty on his way to the rendezvous - in the form of a menacing alien ship.
In honor of the 100th Anniversary of the birth of late STAR TREK actor James Doohan, I have created this episode which prominently features the character of Lieutenant Commander Montgomery "Scotty" Scott.
This film entitled "The Quintain" was written, directed, animated and produced by Curt Danhauser and is the third new animated STAR TREK episode featuring Captain Kirk and his crew to be produced in more than four decades. The last new official animated STAR TREK episode was produced by Filmation and aired on NBC-TV Saturday morning, October 12, 1974. Now, after more than 45 years, new episodes are being produced. These new episodes are intended to be a direct continuation of the 22-episode animated STAR TREK series produced by Filmation Associates from 1973-1974.

This video is a brand new story, with new animation, new dialogue that reuses some elements from the Animated STAR TREK series that aired on Saturday mornings from 1974 to 1974. I created this and it is the third new animated STAR TREK episode featuring Captain Kirk and his crew to be produced in more than four decades. This is not a redub of an old show.

the one problem I have is that according to the original writers guide for the series, saucer sep on a constitution class starship is an emergency procedure allowing the saucer to be used as a life boat. reattaching the saucer to the star drive would require an extended layover in a space dock.

Why is Star Trek so popular? 1. The primary colours. 2. The vision of a utopian future (at least for Earth). 3. The great stories. 4. The chemistry of the characters. 5. The comfortable family type atmosphere of the Enterprise. 6. The special effects. 7. The theme of space exploration. 8. Having been a pilot Roddenberry knew how to give the show the feel of how pilots and officers talk to one another-pilot/officer protocol.

Just right, I do believe a star base was required to reattach, however the animated series could have presented a saucer separation much more easily that a live action show could, & could have explained it as an upgrade. @@eugenetswong So far as I know, it was never hinted at until TNG, but one might extrapolate backwards and assume they had the technology in TOS but it just never came up. Remember they were limited to using large physical models, not 3d digital models. A saucer separation with the actual enterprise model may have put the model at risk of serious damage because it was not originally designed or that.

This was a good story. I loved the saucer separation sequence. The use of tricorder specs on Scott's computer was good touch along with the rendering of the auxiliary control room. Doctor Oldsmobile, the mustache, that took over Spock's station was a bit much, but he was oh so 70's. It would be nice to look into Spock's scanner and see something else other than a heartbeat. Very well done. Bravo.

If I was Mr Scott, I would have blasted the alien ship and then taken a large piece with the tractor beam to prevent its re-assembly. I presume if I had kept it from re-assembling, it could not have attacked again. Great story and well executed.

I was thinking that he might have tractored another asteroid and put it in the middle of the ship while it was reassembling. That would have gummed up the works long enough for an escape whereas a torpedo would have just scattered the pieces again so it could reform again.
