@@dzsemx I've shot an event hosted by my company and it was in a UV/low light themed warehouse. I used the kit 70-300mm 4.5-6.3 and got some great shots. Always great to see you critique other people’s work. Little hints about what the lens does for distortion at wide angles. What looks good what doesn’t ( in your opinion), and how surprised you get when people use a kit lens and get results that even you don’t expect to see. Great video. Two thumbs up to the photographer for submitting work.
@TheHappyWhisk4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jared! The shooting straight at a wider lens is something that I am currently working on because I struggle to get that still. The thumb I worked on yesterday at 16 x 9 was just off and I had to straighten it. It's interesting to learn that the wider shooting is harder for that. But I'm also learning about lines and when I am not straight enough for an overlay and started the use a make-shift C stand. As for my kit lens, I'm still on the kit lens Though I did see three sigmas but I'm not in need of that just yet. Though I do love the Canon 32mm EF-M but will wait just a bit more to keep learning. I decided recently to treat my kit lens as a prime and that's made me work closer to the food shots because instead of zooming, I'm learning to move around and see better. Anyway, I'm rambling. Love your videos. Thanks for your time. Cya!

I have to disagree on the pumpkins shot. Whatever the photographer did with the processing, the final result looks like a Norman Rockwell painting to me. I think it really works well. And very true about cheap cameras and lenses getting great shots. With my Canon S5IS point and shoot and my 60D with kit lens, I’ve been able to get some fantastic shots with them (as well as a lot of shit shots).
@theallimoo4 жыл бұрын
Shot with a Canon 7D and 50mm f/1.8 for years and had arguably much better work than many of my peers who had their parents gift them top of the line full frame bodies along with L lenses. Having thorough knowledge on how to use what you have, in addition to editing (in my personal opinion), really makes a difference.

This was a great collection of what one can do with good basic DSLR's (3200/5300/7200) with relatively cheap lenses. This is my kind of portfolio - I'm a D7200, 18-300 and I hate changing lenses, but I may break down soon and get a 35/1.8, just of have it available indoors. I think a good exercise is to use the Aperture Priority mode with the fast lenses to see what you can get and how DOF and other things change with it. I think some of these were in full auto or P mode, with the ISO not set to auto, but at 400. That last photo could have been taken with the kit lens (50mm,f/8), but if you forced it to f/4 or wider, then you can see what happens and if you like it.

the canon 55-200mm kit lens is a very nice one i got with my M50, the soldier in the picture to me was framed good, it showed his shoulder emblems, that probaly was an important thing for him/the smudger to get in. Jared, tell some one at canon to make a native m-m x2 converter!!!!! challenge yourself to get hold of some really crap lenses and work to their best ability to get some decent shots
@benjaminzerhusen49414 жыл бұрын
Cant agree more on the soldier part. He didnt put on all this gear and his emblems, so you crop that stuff away and be like: Look a nice portrait of an old man.. he might be a soldier, but no clue what type of.. For most soldiers, they are proud of their company and their "weapons", like artillery or tank batallion and its part of their "identity", which makes taking photos of those persons quite challenging: If you cut away their shoulder pauldrons or the emblem on the hat, you will cut away a part of their identity. Well its just my 2 cents :)
@l.ferrer79234 жыл бұрын
Sorry but it really looks more like a snapshot. Jared was only being respectful. Proper portraits should be in “portrait mode” with appropriate reflective lighting to reduce shadows under his hat but carefully reducing eyeglass light rebound as well. Properly positioned in posture. Proper background with the right perspective - this one is like “shooting down at” the subject - not eye level. Therefore, a mere snapshot. What a disservice to a man of honor.

Mr Fro made a big point here. While he consistently said that we should have the best tools to take the greatest photos, he also said that if we make make shitty images from thousands dollars gears, the problems lie in our fundamental skills, not the gear. When it comes to critique, he doesn't mention about eye AF, IBIZ or full-frame sensors; only colors, angles, compositions and exposures. If anybody think that his channels is all about promoting the most expensive cameras to monetize from big brands, this video will be my recommendation!

The technical details of your gear are static, but your skills are not. Go out and practice and after a while you will find out that you can achieve more with basic gear than you would think. Also, it is very rewarding to get great pictures with basic gear, because it shows that you really know what you are doing! Also, never think that great gear will make you a great photographer, because it won't. Great gear still has its advantages, but in most cases it is less decisive than one should think.

Hey any advice what to buy? A6400 or g85 same price with kit lenses
@patrick.7714 жыл бұрын
depends on what you do. A6400 has larger APS-C sensor, better image quality and is probably the better camera. But G85 has image stabilization which is very helpful when you do video. Buy the camera that feels better for you and try it in a store before you buy it. G9 would be better than the G85. For the A6400 I would go with the 18-135 lens - much better than the 16-50 kit lens.

Using F2.8 would be 2 stops, saving 2 stops from ISO from 640 to 160. Probably could reduce the shutter too so it got to ISO 100. But hey, getting the shot is top priority!
