Honestly, I do not know how you manage in the UK without your local JP!

Do you by chance remember where you bought the centrifuge? I've got probably 40 gallons of waste oil waiting to be filtered for a diesel I don't own yet 😂

Why did you move from Yorkshire to Canada to spend all your time inside a garage? Just a thought Sir 😊

I backpacked round the world for 2.5 years 30 years ago. Nice place to live - would not go back to the UK now

Great stuff. S'funny, I was just talking to a mechanic, last week, and he was trying to come up with some method of filtering waste oil so it could be re-used as lube while assembling stuff. Never occured to me at the time but, if we could salvage the oil filter out of a scrap TD5, that might work. I wonder how long the disposable cartridges from a TD5 would last, when constantly filtering waste oil, though?

It would take a lot of pressure and filters to clean engine oil! If you saw my video on the upright centrifuge, that spun at 1725 rpm. It would remove water and dirt from veg oil, but you can control the feed, so the slower it is fed, the cleaner the oil, however with these centrifuges like in this video, you need pressure to spin the internal bit, so in the Td5 it would be engine oil pressure - and hot too! The hotter the oil the better for centrifuging

@@BritannicaRestorations Very good point regarding heat. Have you seen the size of the holes in a TD5 filter-cartridge? They're just a couple of "pin-pricks". Makes me realise I don't really know a lot about how the cetrifugal filter on a TD5 operates. I mean, based on the available pressure and the size of the holes, I can't imagine that it spins at all until the oil is hot.

I believe there is a thermostat to control the oil temperature workshop-manuals.com/landrover/defendertd5/engine/oil_cooler/filter_flow_(thermostat_open)/?expand_article=1 But there are more arrows on this diagram than Custer's last stand!

@@BritannicaRestorationsI hate looking at stuff like that because it usually makes me realise there's something else that IS going to go wrong sooner or later.

I have a centrifuge from bio diesel that when its running all the clean oil goes back in the barreland keeps circulating till all the oil is clean. That base looks interesting.does it only take one pass thru the centrifuge then directly out into a clean oil container? Would that base work on my 80 gallon an hour centrifuge? If so how much would your base cost me? Thank you for the video. My name is Harold.

this is interesting, doesn't it come with a base , since you had to make one? btw that polish cylinder with a Golding top- how does that fit into the filter?🤣
