Maybe you don't understand how it works. (I have a bit of experience in manufacturing in China and having parts OEM'ed in China.) When China produces something, and they're using components not made in China, and they are destined for machines sold INSIDE of China, they are usually ordering large amounts of these products. And just like if you were to have Chinese company, manufacture a component for you in bulk, you can specify every aspect of that component, and when China is having a non-Chinese company manufacture a component for them, they can specify every aspect of the product. (Materials, tolerance of machined parts, sub-assemblies and components, the color, and the brand, for example, "Anthony's Excavators.) So when they approach Kawasaki to make a component for them, for example, they'll tell Kawasaki that they want to use 303 stainless instead of titanium, or Delrin instead of Ultem, or any cost saving substitution. Kawasaki, who has a brand reputation to protects, tells them that they will make those substitutions, but only if EXC Inc. agrees to only sell the tractor inside of China. That's where grey market machines come in to play. When EXC Inc. tells Kawasaki that the machines will only be sold in China, but instead exports them to the U.S. Larger Chinese equipment manufactures that can't be bothered with grey market nonsense, they use brand name parts, but skimp out in other areas. Chinese steel is notoriously poor quality. They stick in a name brand power plant, like Kubota, that may or may not be made to the same specs that all their other Kubota engines that Kubota puts in their own machines, but other aspects of the machine are made sub-par. Everything, from using 15 gallons of paint instead of 30, to ultrasound weld inspections, to using off brand tires, hoses, paint, o-rings, wires, etc. And the worst part of it all, which one of the reps in the video mentioned, is labor. Poorly treated, poorly compensated, and a poorly trained labor force. People who have never been to, or even seen video of, these factories in China, are ignorant to just how poor the conditions are. They think that the poor working conditions aren't a thing in 2020, and think that "working conditions have greatly improved;" which they haven't. They have a, "If I don't see it, it doesn't bother me," mentality.

I think keeping a spare machine for parts is a good idea if it's mainly for the rare parts, like things that usually aren't in stock in large quantities, so like if some random part that usually doesn't break broke and the machine will be down for 2 weeks while the part is ordered amd shipped, or you can go pull it from the parts machine and send it to the customer in a day or two then order that part to fix the parts machine as time allows would be good but not just pulling more easy to get parts from it just because.

Stan...The robbing parts thing is something that I have done in the computer industry. It's not that we don't try to keep parts in stock that we can send you a new part, but rather on the off chance that there WAS a supply shortage AND there was an emergency need for a part at the same time, I'm going to make sure that we get a part to you ASAP by yanking it new off the spare. It's not my preferred method of replacing something, but if it makes my customer happy, I'd rather do that than have my customer offline. Then, at the customer's discretion, if they want the part replaced with new parts stock when it arrives, I'll do that. Otherwise, I bring my spare back up to operable condition for the next "just in case." More often than not, my customers are happy that the equipment is working with the pull-part and don't take me up on that offer, but I DO make the effort. If these guys offer the same service, I say good on them!!!

I've owned a lot of different really good name brands including John Deere. And nobody and I mean nobody can beat Caterpillar on parts availability and service! The majority of parts is same day or next day. Yes you pay for it but it saves you more money than it costs you by far on downtime due to their reliability and readily available parts network, and their resale value holds high compared to other equipment. So you save 20% when purchasing that Chinese equipment new but when you go to sell you probably lose 50% compared to Cat so in turn you actually lose money with the cheaper stuff. As far as robbing parts Belarus farm tractor dealers had to do the same thing for customers so all the dealerships had dozens of brand new parted out machines at each dealership because parts were simply not available. while over all I agree to the point it is better to get a never installed part (used even if the machine has never worked) that is in stock, all brands have parts shortages here and there, and it is good that a company takes steps to make sure a part is available one way or another even if not by a perfect means

Stan, hope you had a terrific holiday season abundantly filled with many blessings! Just before this video I was looking at a video of a Sandy mini excavator. I think it was something like 13 or 15 horsepower and I had never heard of them. My biggest fear is getting parts from overseas in this video was most enlightening, even the owner operator comments! I'm looking for something small but have a lot of education to accomplish for decisions not for business but personal residential use. Anyway thanks bunches

I have Caterpillar I like the fact that I can get any part that visit to dealership. Another thing to consider is that you can use them for a few years sell them and not loose lots of money. Speaking with a huge used equipment dealership that sells Hitachi, JD, Komatsu , Volvo, JCB, Case etc that Caterpillar holds there value the best explaining why some of the excavators can reach 16,000 hrs. I think talking with mechanics that work on all brands are your best knowledge for equipment reliability and parts quality build is everything they all break some just more than others.

keep in mind a lot of the steel they get in china came from the us as scrap metal so those rusty wore out junk you took in for scrap is what they are using to build new equipment out of and I don't know how strong that stuff really is

We’ve got a bunch of these machines available in Australia already. Sany, XCMG, liugong, etc. I’ve operated a few of them & they’re pretty rubbish long term. The mini skid loader segment here is saturated with Chinese imports & I still spend the extra $ and bought a Vermeer. Not worth risking my time & money on an unproven machine

@@ashishpatel350 An absolutely valid point!! Let's say someone takes a risk and sinks thousands into a lower-cost machine .... Several years into the extended use these machines incur, it becomes unfeasible to keep putting money into it, and either sale or trade is necessary .... What a wake-up call to find its value is gone. I think that applies to just about anything tho.

I'm going to tell you something that you don't know about Chinese products, The real problem is not the spare parts, the problem is the steel they use if a piece of steel cracks, you cannot weld, due to the poor quality of the material Another thing is when they say cummins engine, if you are a little smart you will know that it is a copy of a cummins and not a real one.
@brookvalliant78134 жыл бұрын
Chinese steel is garbage. Ya it works and the price is right but once you've operated and repaired a quality machine you'll understand.
@bergerk204 жыл бұрын
cummins does have some china built motors because i have had to work on it, it is one that is used as a generator and so far it has had a few electrical problems so even when a well known brand has something made in china its still crap. but the cummins engines made in usa that i have worked on are a lot better quality. i was shocked when i looked at the engine data plate and it said manufactured in china

Using a brand new machine for parts picking is not that unheard of actually. As for XCMG, the sales guy had them at number 5. Worldwide I believe they're number 3, with Sany and Zoomlion just behind. Only Caterpillar and Komatsu are bigger. Solely talking bulldozers, Shantui are the biggest manufacturer. Caterpillar is a distant second. Schwing is majority owned by XCMG, and Dressta are now owned by LiuGong.

Just at the 5:20 mark about CAT parts. I have owned CAT equipment since 1986 and that was not always the case. My first CAT was a D8H. I have Cat satellite parts store in my backyard. I can go there at 3:45 in the afternoon and if they need to order a part it is available for pick up at 6:30 the next morning. There is not another company that can offer that level of service. And yes we pay for it. My wife is related to the family that owns the area Komatsu dealer. I have a direct line into any department. They cannot offer the level of parts availability like CAT does. And they are 60 miles away. You know the old saying you get what you pay for.

I’m a Machine Repairman, we also rob parts from other machines, but only if we absolutely have to. That’s usually the case with Old machines that are outdated and sometimes with Brand new Machines.
@indianaoutdoors43794 жыл бұрын
The XCMG guy was full of himself. As a tech for Cat unless you get into some old stuff your parts will be instock or available next day unless its a problem part Cat has a habbit of pulling all inventory which when happens you can normally still get it withen a week max. We go above and beyond keeping our customers working even eating labor to get some factory updates done for customers. Not saying they won't take some sales but they have alot of growing to do before they are ready to truly compeat. As our larger customers say, "We can't afford to go elsewhere. Nobody else can supply the demand we have for the ammount of equipment purchases nor keep up with their maintenance and repair needs." Cat is an American company but we sale/distribute worldwide. So why produce in one location when selling everywhere?
@andrewmeppen80684 жыл бұрын
I get it. The service is great but the obligation as a customer to get the equipment dealt with by cat instead of a smart employee is the problem. There aren't any cost effective resources besides my boss opening his wallet away from his face to a cat service manager because the software to troubleshoot and diagnose issues and even routine maintenance costs more than to tow it there, drop it off twice a year and pay the bill.
@andrewmeppen80684 жыл бұрын

Alot of places wont rob parts anymore like they use to back in the day just think it's more liability than they want the dealer to have but I have had dealers pull parts for my machines because I needed it so that is nice but I wouldn't take a robbed part over new but atleast you know the part works because nowadays theres alot of faulty new stuff
@erickkuehl9444 жыл бұрын
It’s really popular to do that for airplanes, airlines and the military do it all the time. They used to fly the oldest plane over seas with them purely for the fact they could pull parts off of it way faster there at the base, rather than fly parts over from the states.
@ruarioshea60154 жыл бұрын
If the machine they are robbing parts of is new the part is basically new it was fitted removed and refitted on your broken machine but basically new if a dealer strips a machine to keep me working earning income he understands my income pays his income

I don't see the issue if they're pulling it from a machine that hasn't been used. That's like passing up a used car... that has never been driven, but you don't want it because it was "used". CAT is hella expensive, and robbing machines of parts is common in EVERY type of industry. Deere, CAT, Case, all do this. I've worked at a Petro/CAT station and the guys that serviced the machines regularly recycled parts as long as they weren't actually used in production. You just sound like you have no idea how manufacturer repair works on the commercial side. You also made your own point "I'm gonna be waiting weeks to get a part"... exactly man. Why would you wait weeks when you could have parts machines and parts instantly at a reasonable price? And honestly man, do you think CAT or Deere, or any of those keep like 500x of every part in stock? Psh no, they refab and refurb stuff and resell it. CAT does this openly and they just re-certify. Don't scare people away from something sensible with nonsense.
@peterstockschlaeder9564 жыл бұрын
I'm in IT, not construction, but I have to say the same thing -- if you have a "known good" that you can send to a customer that needs it "NOW" then you send it off the parts donor. I'm thinking the rep answered the way he did, is implying that despite whatever parts inventory they have on hand, they know if there is something more esoteric that is gonna take longer to come from overseas, they can grab it off a demo or warehouse unit and get it out to you the next day rather than have you down for say a week if it has to come airfreight (and thus incredibly more expensive). This is also the byproduct of just-in-time-delivery which, you could argue, has made inventory decision-making a heck of a lot more difficult.
@____________________________.x4 жыл бұрын
Yep, that's common in the electronics repair industry too. You probably couldn't do it in aviation, because every part starts with the name of the guy that dug the iron ore out of the ground, right down to the guy that delivers it to your door

I was a marine mechanic when I was younger. The owner knew many of his customers and wanted to keep them happy. If the part was on backorder, we would pull it off a new engine so the customer had it right away. When the part came in, we would put it back on the engine.

My 1 reason to buy 1 of these brands is cost. 2 would be service and parts availability 3 nearest dealer and how quick a service truck could be there. So far I am leaning towards sany for a 6 to 7 ton excavator with thumb and different buckets available for it. Have a great day be safe.
