honestly that place is mint, cheap solid location to just lay your head down at night and most important of all is that it has a western toilet!

Great video, Steve. I stayed at Verarda Place right next door to Siri for 3 weeks when I was in CM. Was very happy there. It runs about 400 baht a day for short term rental. 3300 baht a month is fantastic. I'll check out Siri next time. It is a great location. Very safe and convenient to everything.

Yes . A 88 dollar room is possible to find. But it's not something you would want to live in. Also it's very hot in Thailand ( Google it). Air-conditioning is a must have. That's 88 USD all by itself

Just subscribed. Don't usually do that until I've watched a while, but loved the video & thrift is a buzzword w me. Not to b confused w cheap. That is a great place for the dough! Clean, enuf space, fridge, ac. What more can you ask for? I could hang my hat there for a while til something better comes along & save a ton of $ in the meantime. Thanx for the view!!! Will b watching.

I agree with other good positive comments fuck the criticism there are people that need a 60 to 80 dollar room and you show it is possible to find something so great work....I am intrigued in finding the unique unexpected places for 150 to 175 a month that I can call home for six months a year in the area that is close to old city and Nimman ....some where in between.....again thanks for the vid....
@ThriftySteve
@ThriftySteve 7 жыл бұрын
So far the only place I've covered for that price point is my current place, a 5 bedroom house right on Nimman... I pay $170 a month for my room. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIixlnaLZsyEjsk I definitely plan to cover other apartments around that price range, because finding a house like mine is more of a case by case basis....

Glad to see you back. I enjoyed this video and your others about the Up North Garden Inn. Your videos made it seem very appealing. Can you name a couple negatives about that apartment?
@ThriftySteve
@ThriftySteve 7 жыл бұрын
Sure... about the Up North Garden Inn, the Internet they offered was slow and unreliable, so I never purchased it. I noticed that the walls were thin and you could easily hear noise in the halls, but despite this, noise was never a problem. The people who lived there were quiet and respectful, and the place never seemed crowded. That might be because I lived there in Jan and Feb, not during peak season. Not necessarily a negative, but definitely an FYI the front desk staff doesn't always speak English, it depends who is on duty. You could always email the apartment with any needs or concerns, though.

Thanks for the replies. I was just trying to get an idea if I could end up with a bill around $100....or $200...I guess when we get there we need to find a place with a good rental price, but also need to find a place with a low electric charge of maybe closer to 5 baht/unit, if we are planning to run the air con a lot.

I'm happy to help anyone with questions... there are plenty of ATMs here and I'd say that's how most people get access to their money. I chose an alternate method and brought $6,000 cash with me and exchanged it at the money changer with the best rate. That helped save me some money in the long run

It would be so awesome if more of these affordable apartments in Chiang Mai could just install a simple kitchenette, just a sink really. It sucks having to wash produce in the bathroom. By the way, could you blur out the face of people coming in and out of the apartment? I think it would help protect the other residents' privacy and safety living there... esp if they are girls. Thanks!

How is the view of the first apartment amazing ? It’s facing a boring and noisy road and the buildings opposite are nothing spectacular. Westerners often exaggerate and use words like great, amazing or it blows your mind! Lol. I always discount their compliments by at least 50%. They are very loose with compliments. In Asia, we abide by the principle of : don’t mean it, don’t say it.

BTW, the coolest property in cheap category in Thailand i remember checking was on this website a couple of years ago: www.ddproperty.com/en It was a house - on poles Thai style, near Chantaburi, only 5 miles or so from the sea and on a fruit plantation, which was included in the rent! Meaning free fruit aplenty - only catch was you had to rent - and pay upfront - for a year, which was like 50,000 Baht, or 4,200 Baht per month! That was a glorious dream right there....:-)

There are many many videos on living on this and that in Asia gets a little boring same samebWould be more interesting if they could post how they got into such a state they have to live like this as a warning to othersThe very reason the thai authorities are clamping down on those who do not have the means to sustain themselves and be a benefit to the thai economy...in short they don't want the bottom of the pile delusion there doing border runs cos they can't afford and do not have the means to go through the visa process for long term stayI see these guys on a daily basis and I speak thai ...they have no shame failures in their own country and think Thais love them maybe they should make the effort to learn thai and they would actually learn the comments made are not complimentary at allGenuine guys with sufficient means to live there are welcome with open armsThese guys are living like hobos and spoil it for the rest of genuine ex pats
