I know that not everyone is going to like my truck. The look of a truck is such an individual thing. There are even things that I would change about it now, such as 18" wheels instead of 20". No offense taken. Thanks for your feedback on my video editing! From the beginning, I knew that I wanted to get straight to the point in my videos. Are you a Tundra owner?

@@toyotaFANatic81 Yup, 2014 1794. I meant it as more of a compliment, that despite that, I found it a great video. Definitely don’t dislike your truck. I went with +40 offset, 285/75R18s. Slight tire poke. Was going to do flares, but felt the slight tire poke was perfect for my taste. Absolute minimal lift.

I definitely have 18's in mind for my Tundra in the future ... along with certain suspension upgrades that will make it more offroad worthy. If you have a 1794, then you've got the TOP trim level. I'm sure that it's a beautiful truck!!! Nothing wrong with a bit of wheel poke!!!

My Tundra is a 2018...purchased July 2019, OE LED headlights and OE LED Fog lights, 5.7L to tow my 26' travel trailer (TT). I was willing to sacrifice 1 foot of bed space for a monstrously large back seat (Crewmax). The truck was a one year lease return, had 7K miles on it (just broken in). The former owner had the bed sprayed and put tinted window visors on all 4 windows. The very first thing I did was replace the OE passenger "P" tires with real tires / Mastercraft 10 ply truck tires meant for towing. I have done many inexpensive mods including adding rubber inserts to the handle pockets and door pockets, removed or covered any Chrome beauty rings & Chrome dashboard trim w/ Dark trim or color-matched trim rings.. I have Blackened all the badges, etc. I did spend more than $500 on color-matched bumper overlays, hood overlays, etc. to hide the Chrome accents. I color-matched and installed the running boards you have, I upgraded to Bilstein 5100s front and back (can really feel a ride difference), and I installed Firestone airbags to keep the truck level while towing the TT. I am a very serious amateur trumpet player...I love my music. I did spend $1500+ on the OEM Audio+ sound system (all speakers replaced, digital amplifier & processor, and the Alpine 11" touch-screen) and am very happy with it. I'm installing the Genesis dual battery set-up this weekend...

In grill light bars, bumper light bar, hood scoop light bar, (yes, I love more lights😊), Morimoto headlights gen2, S&B intake, TRD skid plate, cat security plate, LED bulbs all around, and the first mod I did when I bought the truck is take out that crappy sound system and upgraded to a more louder system, but kept the head unit. I will eventually lift the truck using Bilstein shocks. And as for your question, I think my cut off is 2k. But I will say I try to keep the small mods under 500. Dude by far this was my favorite Tundra modification video! I love the idea of the fender flares but here in Canada we have to deal with lots of moisture and salt, leading to rust., my bro calls them rust covers Hub extensions is another great idea That way you get to keep the tires you have and it makes it look cooler! Cold air intake absolutely necessary is a must . Cooler dense air= happy truck I am in the market looking for a Toyota Tundra but here in Canada fuel is 1.20$ to 1.68 $ a litre. I heard HP tuners might help with fuel economy. 1000$ plus ... I'll have to save my pennies. It's amazing how your wife let you use her truck lol!
@toyotaFANatic8110 ай бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video. 1) I live in Canada 🇨🇦, specifically Alberta. The paint under my flares is just fine, and I never plan to take them off anyway. 2) I've used spacers (what you called "hub extensions") on one of my previous trucks. You wrote "you can keep the same tires," but I hate to break it to you ... spacers have nothing to do with the type of tires a person runs on their truck. Spacers are associated with the WHEELS, not the tires. I have no issue with wheel spacers, but I'd rather get a wheel with a negative offset than use spacers again. Also, the aftermarket wheels I have on the truck look FAR better than the stock wheels regardless of whether I'm running spacers or not. 3) The air that runs through the CAI is not "colder" air. On a Tundra, the CAI gets fed ambient air from the fender well, and that air is warm. The trick behind CAI is the better filter, not cold air. With CAIs, more airflow (due to the filter) is what contributes to the VERY slight bump in horsepower. "Cold Air Intakes" are named incorrectly, because it's still warm air that runs through them. An engine tune or a supercharger would give the truck a real significant boost in power, but both of those are far more expensive. 4) In Alberta, the price of gas (right now) sits between $1.18/L and $1.34/L. 5) As for you saying it's my wife's truck ... that's funny. Take a look at a few more videos. Her vehicle is featured in a number of them.

The video was one of my early ones and it was so badly filmed that I canned it. The Painting Process: - Lightly sanding the grille (800-grit) - 2 coats of primer - 3 or 4 coats of base (black sand pearl) - 4 to 6 coats of acrylic clear coat - Leave over night (or for 12 hours) to allow the clear coat to harden

Thanks, man! The process was similar to the door handles: - Tape plastic over the border of the grille where you don't want to get paint on - Lightly wet-sand the grille surface with 800 grit sand paper - Apply two coats of primer (with 20 min between coats) - Apply three to four coats of base paint (with 20 min between coats) - Apply four to six coats of acrylic clear-coat (with 20 min between coats) - Leave the grille overnight for the clear-coat to dry/harden. - Reinstall the grille I hope that helps!

Is their a good guide on how to do a proper lift with bigger tires? I've seen too many that rub when you turn, pull the truck to the side, road noise, and even bottom out on big bumps
@toyotaFANatic818 ай бұрын
It's funny that you mention that. I'm working on a guide like that right now. Right now, I would say look at videos and visit Tundra message boards. Talk to guys that have successfully outfitted their Tundras with 35s without rubbing or bottoming out. I would say a 4" lift is probably the lowest you can go if you want to run 35s PROPERLY. I say "properly" because I've seen guys say that they got a 2.5" lift & level and were able to fit 35s .... BUT then there's a ton of rubbing and bottoming out. Even with the 4" or 6" lift, you may still have to trim the front of your fender and possibly get a body-mount chop (BMC) at the back of the fender. The Tundra bumper can also be moved forward slightly. There are a number of ways of going about it. In terms of pulling the truck to the side, that has more to do with suspension alignment, not the lift itself. In terms of road noise, that's usually generated by the tires and has nothing to do with the lift. ATs, RTs, and MTs will always be louder than the boring summer tires that the trucks come with from the factory. Some ATs are better than others, but RTs and MTs are loud ... period.

Thanks for checking out the video. 1) I did have a video on the door handles and grille, but it wasn't shot well, so I'll be re-doing it this spring or summer. 2) You can paint over chrome parts, but there is a process to it. - Use 600 to 800 grit sand-paper to scuff up the chrome. - apply 2 coats of primer - apply 3 or 4 coats of base paint - apply 5 or 6 coats of acrylic clear coat Put 20 min between coats, and leave over night to cure after the last coat of acrylic has been applied.

The color-code of your Tundra is on the rear side of the driver's door panel. It's on the plaque next to the tire pressures. For example, mine says C/TR: 1G3/LE20. The "1G3" is the code for Magnetic Grey. Find the code on your door panel and take it to a hardware store where they sell automotive spray paint. You can use the code to find the right color. The lid on the can will also match the color of your truck.

Hey, man. Thanks for the compliment on the truck. To be honest with you, I actually do not know if a truck without the DRLs can support a set of headlight housings with them. My Platinum Tundra came with LED DRLs in the housings (from the factory). I wish that I had a better answer for you. The vehicle filters on Amazon and Ebay work pretty well in terms of offering up parts that will work with your particular truck.

I am interested in blacking out my badges and have seen a lot about Plasti Dip. It doesn't look like you used it though. What paint did you use and where did you buy it?
@toyotaFANatic812 ай бұрын
I used automotive paint. You can get it from most hardware stores. The Painting Process - Lightly sanding the badges & grille (800-grit) - 2 coats of primer - 3 or 4 coats of base (black sand pearl) - 4 to 6 coats of acrylic clear coat - Leave overnight (or for 12 hours) to allow the clear coat to harden

Around 500, I would say. My next mod is going to be tint and/or flares. After market parts are starting to show up for me. I have the new 2024 Sierra hd. I put steps and a bed cover already. The cover was OEM, so I paid too much. The next mod I want to do is rims or magnum racks, which are both way more than 5. Racks are cheaper, so that will probably be after tint.
@toyotaFANatic8110 ай бұрын
Whoa! You got a big, expensive truck!!! A nice truck, too. Take your time with the mods. There's no rush. You have the right idea of picking the mods that are affordable right now and saving up for the ones that cost a bit more. As for the wheels (rims), do some research on the kind of look that you want. The tire size, wheel size, and wheel offset you pick will have a BIG effect on how your truck looks. I've learned from personal experience to know exactly which wheel and tire set up you want before walking into a tire shop.
@GMCB-pu8pk10 ай бұрын
@toyotaFANatic81 she is a big girl too, a crew cab with 8' bed. SLE trim, so that kept the price way down. I did fo leather seat covers too 100 bucks on Amazon!!! I've been researching the rims and tires. I know I want 18's with 35" tires, but I may need to level, and she already sits about 6'8". So I need to think and research more, lol. Color and offset, im still deciding 🙄. Just subbed and I'm going to check out more of your truck!!!

I put the gm mirrors on my 08 and they went on no problem
@toyotaFANatic81 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video. When I said that those GM-style mirrors are a "bitch" to install, I wasn't talking about attaching them to the truck. That's the easy part. In order for them to be FULLY functional, there is extra wiring to be done. That's the hard (or long) part. If you just plug in the mirrors into the harness, you'll get heating, signaling, and electronic adjustment. In order to get the reverse lights (on the back of the mirrors) and the ambers (on the front of the mirrors) to work, that extra wiring is required. Now, if that's what you meant - that you had no problems with the wiring job - good on you man!! Great work!!! Enjoy the mirrors.
@bubaa1218 Жыл бұрын
@@toyotaFANatic81 the only wiring I did was for indeed the reverse lights. I used t connectors so I didn’t have to splice anything.
@toyotaFANatic81 Жыл бұрын
Nicely done!!! 👊🏾 You and I are in the minority. Most people won't fully wire the GM mirrors because the job takes time and requires a bit of thought. That's why I recommend most people get the Toyota-Style tow mirrors. That's awesome that you got the reverse lights going. Well done, man!!!
