Cheap way to wire your hot rod, classic car or truck with a 12 circuit universal wiring harness #2

In this 2nd video I describe how to prep and seperate the front engine and headlight harness of a 12 circuit wire harness before Harold does the install in his 1950 3100 Chevy truck. If anyone is wondering what I mean by "BRIDGED' wires it simply means wires that DON'T go back to the fuse box. Instead they go from either a switch to the accessory or component they are controlling OR from a sender / sensor to a gauge or dummy light. This is very crucial to understanding how automotive vehicle wiring harnesses work for the novice.

Watched your videos,awesome really l helped alot.I am working on a 1940 Hudson cuope,with a aftermarket turn signal apparatus that mounts to the steering column.I have two wires I am stuck on one is a purple wire that is marked turn flasher and a brown wire that is marked flashers,I know what they do,just not sure were they fit with my turn signal apparatus?Also could not find my red electric choke wire or my white interior light wire according to the instructions?Any help would be great.Keep up the great work on the videos.

Little side note these harnesses are simply the fuse block, turn signal relay, & pre-labeled wiring harness. If you intend on installing other relays they will need to be purchased separately along with connectors. You might consider whether you want weather resistance connecters such as packard or deutsch connectors for serviceable of plug and play in the future &/ or making a easy way to break apart the wiring harness into multiple harnesses such as going through the bulkhead to the engine compartment. Most kits have a minimum amount of large wire loom, but if you have a harbor freight store nearby you can pick up different sizes of loom for next to nothing to help save you some money.

Good morning to you this s morning. This is YourBoyEric from Southern Cali and I’ve been watching your videos for a long time and they have been very well informative. This is why I need your assistance for my project. I have a 78 Chevy Camaro Z28 I’m building fresh m scratch. I’ve purchased a universal wiring kit from Amazon which I’ve done 95% of the installing myself and it’s very easy to do. The problem that I’m having is the tail lights. On the new wiring harness there are two wires for the rear parking lights, one for left side and one for the right side (which I believe are for the rear marker lights). Also two other wires for the reverse lights (left and right as well). On the tail light harness there’s only one single wire for the parking lights and one for the reverse lights. Do I tie both left and right parking light wires together to that single wire as well as the reverse light wires as well? Thank you so much for your help. YourBoyEric from Southern Cali.

Good morning. I bought the same harness that you have purchased. Mine have a black wire that's unmarked. Would that wire be a ground to where I have to ground it or just ignore it all together. Thank you very much. YourBoyEric from Southern Cali.

There shouldn't be any grounds going back to your fuse box except maybe to trigger the horn relay. The only black wire that I've seen with that harness is fused power for the A/C compressor or the heater fan blower motor. Trace the wire all the way back to the box, then look at what it's connected to and you'll figure out what it's going to. Hope that helps

Depends on your level of experience. Depends on how many accessories you're wiring in. Depends on whether all of your components, lights and gauges work. I can do one in 16-20 hours usually but I've been doing them for years

I'm using original column, original key switch on my '48. I have brown orange and pink on one post, power wire and electric fan on one post. Fuel pump on the third post. I'm having a difficult time getting power to headlight power wire

Are you using the same style of harness with the same color coding? If so, the headlight power wire should be a big red wire and it's labeled headlight power. That should have power as soon as you get the main power wire hooked up to the battery. If not, you probably have a blown fuse

You might consider using relays for your headlight circuits.

Will this harness work good on a '53 Packard that has a GM small block 350 in it?

I've never wired a Packard but if the wiring is all original, it will need to be converted from positive ground to negative ground. If it has already been done it should work fine. If it hasn't, there are plenty online resources to point you in the right direction.

All the wiring was original till I ripped it out but it was running on 12v before I did that. I'm going to be using all aftermarket gages and switches, so I should be fine.. HOPEFULLY 😆 nervous as hell

@@jasonthorpe6987 you can wire ANYTHING with this harness as long as you're upgrading all of the gauges, switches, lights and components. Just remember to use the right amp resistors on any 6V items you plan on reusing

Just got the 21 circuit loom but where you r the brake light is also your turn light in uk we have separate turn lights and there orange how do i get round this do i just make a new circuit for brake light ?

Yes. Obviously don't run them through the turn signal switch. Pretty simple

@@tonycolwell5765 it depends on what switch you are using. If it is a universal switch, they are usually marked. If it is a factory switch you will have to look up the wiring diagram online or a repair manual.

$80 dang i payed 200 from speedway motors and it is very confusing. Im stuck with wiring the 7 pin headlight switch. Only one hot wire and not another wire for the the fused hot wire which is for the dash lights. I guess i need to run a jumper.

Yes, you're right, just run a jumper wire. Guessing you're using a late 50's and up GM headlight switch?

I would use a 21 circuit kit instead of the 12. Might be difficult though depending on the accessories

I hate having to buy stuff China but I just bough a multi pack of 14 gauge wire in different colors, each roll is 100ft and you get 6 for $35. You can't get speaker wire that cheap at any store (looking at you advance auto) these companies really to adjust their pricing I'd rather buy from a chain store and pay a little more if they're employing local people but seriously a roll of 25ft of red 14 ga. wire at advance is like $10

Yes if you are converting your vehicle to a carburetor, no if you're going to run fuel injection but you could use it in addition to your injection harness. Guess it depends on what you're trying to do

If you bought the wrong kit, you're going to haven to trace each wire back to it's corresponding fuse, then label it yourself to match. The leftover wires are what I call "Bridge" wires and you'll have to look at a color coded wiring diagram OR my color coded list to see where they go
