Hi Scott, really like your videos and straightforward approach! I play sax in a loud rock band, and also use a Line6 PodGo fx pedalboard. I run the sax through a pedalboard, so I have avoided clip-on mics for wind instruments (as they feedback a LOT with overdrives/distortions). I play sax into a SM57 on a mic stand with reliable results live and not too much feedback. Now we're stepping up our game as far as live shows go, so I want to be more mobile on stage. This is my intended setup: Sax > SM57 (clamped on sax bell with adapted drum mic mount) > Alto trasn. > Alto receiver > XLR to 1/4" jack adapter > Line6 PodGo > (DI >) PA In case of malfunctions I can always run a XLR lead from the SM57 into the pedalboard and still retain decent mobility. We're definitely not playing big stadiums for the time being, but we are playing 400/500 people gigs fairly often. Would you reckon the Alto stelath 1 is a good solution for me? Or should I go with something like a Sennheiser XSW-D XLR set? Would frequency be an issue nowadays? Alto uses 863 MHz - 865 MHz band, whereas the Sennheiser uses 2.4 Ghz band (which I imagine would be more crowded) Thank you in advance! Keep up the good videos

I would definitely go with a higher end Shure or sennheiser system for 400-500 people crowds. No question. Shure slxd portable has quite a few options for you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rWPPg2yKmc6ni8Usi=NSHmtcQSR6PeAA9M

At a local theater I use a similar set to bring the venue sound into the bar/foyer area. The site is part of the former Barraks from the 1920-1930'ish, and havd quite thick walls. So far it has worked without problems for a few years. (changed fromIMG to Alto at some point, but same design)

Yeah for sure, I understand that! Just remember that the more wireless you plan to use live, the more “expensive” the wireless should be. Too much cheap wireless can’t work all at once (or at least will often give you more problems than it should). Thanks for watching!

They definitely don’t feel fragile to me, it’s just hard to pack them actually because most of the time you have to bend them, so they look floppy. But that’s fine for how well they work, ifs more just a “how they look” thing. Just letting you know, thanks for commenting 🤘🤘

I don’t do “tone comparison” but I’ll definitely do specs comparisons. I like having both to be honest! Different frequencies is always a smart move with cheap gear. Just a suggestion you can run music thru the XR18 on 17&18 and connect the transmitter to the main outs. Then connect the receivers to a 2 channel interface into a PC or laptop and record the audio so people can hear basically the quality that your hit their speakers. You could also use a 3.5mm to XLR y cable and connect it to a phone or MP3 same principle.... Hope that helps
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic Жыл бұрын
Oh nice! We used the 16, but that is true on the 18. I still stand by the belief that our ears play tricks on us when we are sitting in a studio (or on an iPhone haha) vs how it sounds live in the room. So I’m not sure how much that would help, so I did the demo at least of the vocals. But I appreciate the tip though! Thanks for commenting 🤘 it’s amazing how much more the 18 can do over the 12 and 16. That’s why I often recommend the 18 no matter what.
@christopherheadcase6886
@christopherheadcase6886 Жыл бұрын
@@ScottUhlMusic well the 16 has a USB flash so you can still play music thru a flash drive and it has an aux which is 17&18 still same principle. We used to use that on our xr16 to play song intros.. Yes ears do play tricks. Consider how your ears hear a speaker can vs how they hear an ir... totally different.. The mic test was still awesome.. I would just be curious what a full stereo mix would sound like vs a single mono vocal .
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic Жыл бұрын
Ah yeah I forgot about the usb on the 16. You are correct! The 18 has the USB B which gives a lot more options for sure. But doing that, would I be able to get the output that is going through the wireless into the speaker? And it would capture the same audio? Including the quality of the wireless?
@christopherheadcase6886
@christopherheadcase6886 Жыл бұрын
@@ScottUhlMusic absolutely.. the USB flash on the 12&16 can be used as either a music playback or a 2 track stereo recorder.. however it will only capture the audio coming thru the system before it hits the XLR outputs.. that is where the 2 channel i terrace comes in because that will capture the audio being transmitted from the 16 thru their transmitter circuits I to the receiver circuits and converting it back to audio .

The more wireless you have going on, the more you want to use more expensive wireless. However, I just used this last weekend on my bass players mic. We had I think a total of 8 wireless transmitters (mics and guitars) and 4 wireless IEMs, and it worked flawlessly all night. The trick is, not all 12 of those wireless were cheap wireless. Only about 3 of them were cheap (including this one). I think it would work for a Helix, but line of sight is ALWAYS best for wireless. Don’t bury it in a rack somewhere

Just curious if you can use this as a 1 transmitter to 2 receiver setup? Meaning, could I have a mono mixer on stage (or just take one of the outputs) and send it to two (or more) powered PA speakers with a receiver on each? That would save cost. Update: just realized they are sold as a pair so I'd have to buy 2 transmitters to get 2 receivers anyway!
