T-mobile's web site says you can't move around with it w/o geting prior approval to where you are going. They only allow a certain amount of home internet people on a tower. I think the people that are doing it just haven't been caught yet like some others have been.

I have not had your issues with Starlink and I love it. Yes you need a clear sky. Startup has been quick, 5 minutes or less and I have never had stammering and I stream Netflix or Prime every evening.

This is the BEST video that I have seen on mobile connectivity. I have been watching them for month in preparation for my upcoming van build. I heard a lot about WeBoost and Starlink, but never about HiBoost. I am so had no idea about T-Mobile’s home internet that you can take with you on the go. After watching this, I am going to get rid of my internet provider at home and switch to T-mobile as I will only travel part-time and can throw it in my van when I do. Thank you so much!!!

An added bonus for Tmobile internet is that they will let you test drive it for 2 weeks to see if it works for you. If you are a Costco or Sam's Club member, use them as they provide incentives as well. I have 2 phones and their internet! Works great.

Just be careful about "home internet that you can take with you" as carriers don't like it when their systems intended for stationary use get moved around the country. Some of them clamp down on it and suddenly people wonder why their service isn't working or new people see the information and try it only to find they get: access denied.

Seems like it could be an unofficial win for TMo; it would make sense they they don't support or endorse but that people have done it is a win for them: AI Answer Learn more T-Mobile's 5G Home Internet service is not intended to be used while moving, but some users have reported that it works well in RVs. According to a T-Mobile FAQ, the 5G Gateway is specific to an eligible address and cannot be moved to another location. However, some users have reported having a good connection while traveling in their RVs, including one family who was able to watch Netflix and make Skype calls without dropped calls while traveling 1,300 miles in two days.

I had T Mobile Home for about 9 months. At first, it worked fine and I was very happy. But after about 6 months, I couldn’t get consistent streaming; just kept watching it struggling to load. When I couldn’t even use my phone, that was it. I couldn’t even call them; they couldn’t hear me, it would disconnect, etc. I actually had to get a different WiFi /internet provider so I could call them to cancel it! This was last December. They owe me money but instead of issuing me a refund, they send me letters telling me I have a credit. I have no other accounts with them. I have tried too many times to get my refund that I’m just done trying. They can keep the money; they have wasted enough time and caused too much aggravation and inconvenience. I have a different problem with T-Mobile. Half the time I can't get them to _take_ my money. The app is always broken and the website is trash about 40% of the time. Then, there's the most important factor: they don't recognize my debit card as a valid card. This is a card I use every day, in person and online, for countless retailers and services. T-Mobile is the only one that declines it. So, I have to use my credit card and then remember to pay extra every month, on my credit card bill, instead.

Sadly, all of these cell boosters are pretty much useless for small RVs like the truck camper I own, because it’s impossible to get the proper separation between the antennas. Liz, thanks for pointing out the minimum separation requirement. No one else does this when talking about cell boosters. 😊

If you get an antenna pole or put it on a flagpole you might get better results. When I had it installed on the fifth wheel, the antennas were NOT 20 feet apart and it still worked well. Best of luck to you and thanks for watching.

One thing I did to get the seperation is buy a couple 10' lengths of electrical pvc pipe to use as a mast. You can figure a way to attach the antenna to the mast (I've even used duct tape). The electrical pipe is light weight and one end is male and the other is female. Easy as pie to connect them together for deployment and then for breakdown. The trickiest parts is to secure it to your RV, but it can be done pretty easily for someone that's handy.

👍 We live on 40 acres in the middle of the woods...literally. After frustrating results with Verizon and Nomad, we made the decision to go with TMobile Home Internet. The reason we hadn't up to that point was because their website says that they couldn't locate our address, which is typical considering where we live, and that it wouldn't work. When we were in town a couple of months back, we decided to take a chance by going into a TMobile store, explaining our problem. They had a return policy if it didn't work...but much to our surprise, it actually made a connection and worked. In all fairness, we use it in conjunction with our WeBoost, which helps tremendously. So far, we've been very happy with the performance....

I use T-Mobile home internet and I'm using my own modem. T-Mobiles gateway is bad! I purchased a LTE modem/router that has antenna sma connections. Purchased a waveform external antenna. Now I'm getting 40-90 MBs download and I'm in the middle of no where. Before I switched out their gateway I was getting 3-8 MBs download. Not all LTE modems will work.

I'm currently using the GL-X750 LTE modem. It's worked great for my home internet. Cable internet is not an option in my rural area. I just now purchased the new 5G GL X3000 and can't wait to try it out. I have a grandfathered T-Mobile plan that I have unlimited data. I added another cell phone line for $10 a month. I popped that SIM card into the X-750. It's been good so far. It's been 2 years using the X-750.

I love my Starlink! I made a pole that attaches to my ladder and I can swivel it to the roof. No need to climb up. Since almost 100% of our RV'ing does not have cell service, I love the Starlink. I get over 150mbps, and everyone in camp can make calls using their mobile phone, and I can stream at the same time. I can cancel service anytime (winter) and start up again. The only thing I don't like is the $150/month price. Wish it was less.

If you sign up for the home service it's $120 per month. The difference is that you need to go online and change your service address whenever you move. One time we were told that the area we were moving to was "full" and we couldn't move there. For that month we switched to the mobile ($150 version) and it worked great. Then the next month we switched back to the home service for $120. We've been doing this for 3-1/2 years. We signed up during the beta testing when you couldn't move and it only worked for us in our favorite RV park.

I can’t thank you enough for your tips on WiFi on the road. I’m soon going to buy my first RV after I return from the United Kingdom. It’s likely I’ll be on my own for much of the time but I’m desperate to get out and enjoy the country and be able to move to warmer or cooler climates. It’s been my absolute dream during the past five years when I’ve had to fight for my life battling cancer during the pandemic. I’m now told that my time is limited and my cancer’s spreading and there’s no further treatment available so, I’m selling my cottage in England to head for New England initially. I’m hoping to buy a piece of land and a decent RV to do as much as possible and take breaks when needed. I have already found a good independent inspector to help with the purchase and guesstimate my financial needs incase of breakdowns etc. As soon as I start my hunt for my perfect RV I intend to create a channel myself for others who are not 100% fit but don’t want to waste time. I’m going to live to the best of my abilities and enjoy each day whilst writing a book and visiting friends. Today I found your channel and I’m following you 😊 Only the brave…❤

Starlink is the ONLY option for the ZERO cell service locations we do every year. Only place I’ve been throttled was prime evenings in Quartzsite during Jan, and that was expected with concentrated Big Tent Special Event there (and everyone watching TV then 🙄).

Exactly! And if you have cellular, then definitely go for a cellular booster. You've been lucky not to have been throttled very often. I have Starlink Portability which may be why. I've used it in VA, PA, NY, OH, KY, IN, WI, MN, MT, WY, CO, UT, CA, and AZ and have been throttled at probably half of those places, especially in the last six months of using it.

@SandyPawsTravel - IF there is NO a cellular service where you travel, then Starlink is the ONLY option. The value of SL is dependent upon where you travel and the population density. From May to Oct we avoid population centers and cell service of any type is rare. So for us SL makes perfect sense as long it can be turned off (former RV Plan with zero $$/mo) when we are near populated areas that have good cellular. Have a flag pole mount that helps with trees and the long dishie cord helps with solving poor sky access issues. Hasn’t been an issue we couldn’t solve, yet.

Thank you Liz, excellent video. We are very long time RV travelers, never full time , but about 50% on the road. We are retired now and for us, a cell booster works most of the time. Living in the southwest we travel from Arizona to Montana, and yes there are remote places without cell service but, for us, that’s ok. We sometimes travel with friends who have different needs 8:58 and they use Starlink. For three years we’ve had the WeBoost system and it has served us well. We know about the indoor antenna limitations and the need to separate indoor/outdoor antennas. Not a problem for us but when the time comes, I can see where the Hiboost would be an advantage . My Ipad, which I had a cellular service ($85.00 a month) for and using to access the Internet, stopped charging. Went to Best Buy and talked to the "Computer Geeks" who said it was likely the battery and would have to be replaced. I had a new laptop with me but wasn't using it because of the lack of Internet connection. I saw your video and went to T-mobile and within 30 minutes I had working Internet and am using my new laptop, which I much prefer over the ipad. I'm in a Thousand Trails park with 2 bars of service right now, but Internet is working great. Not only do I have a better solution, but saving $35.00 a month. I plan to winter in the southwest this year in my Coachmen Freelander QB21. I've been reading about the various alternatives for connectivity. I was pretty interested in Starlink but consider the cost to be prohibitive so have focused on cell boosters. No matter much you read or how many videos you watch it's difficult to determine how any particular solution will work for your particular situation. Your video caught my attention because I'm currently using T-Mobile cell based Internet at home and decided your solution stood as much chance of working for me as any other so I just ordered the HiBoost using your code. Really useful Liz, thank you. We boondock 95% of the time so probably further off the beaten track than many, and found T-Mobile (and by default Mint) the worst coverage of the 3 main carriers in our travels around the Western USA. As you said, it's always good to have a backup, so we use Visible (Verizon), and Red Pocket (AT&T) now. It's way cheaper than Starlink at $50 p.m. for both ($25 each on both carriers). The downside is the monthly hotspot limits for these - 30Gb for RP, but unlimited (and sometimes throttled) on Visible.

I'm using homeFi in my RV. I considered T-Mobile internet. However, the bonus to homefi is that it works with both Verizon and T-Mobile. So if one is out of range you can flip to the other. I also have the cell booster.

20-35 Mb/s download speed for homefi compared to the 250-325 Mb/s download speeds I get with T-Mobile. Plus there is no unlimited plan for homefi. The biggest plan you can get js 800GB/month for $135 compared to unlimited data for $50/month with T-Mobile. Now of course most people won't need unlimited or 800GB per month but really there is no comparison. The only positive thing I can see about homefi is if it does automatically connect to different cellular networks (Verizon/T-Mobile) based on your location. Although I see nothing about that on their website.

We have been Starlink subscribers since our main home is rural in northern Minnesota and it's been a blessing, but yes, it keeps going up in monthly price. @@LizAmazingWe've (family of 4 that uses a LOT of internet) been using Starlink for 3-1/2 years. Started when it was in beta and there weren't enough satellites so it randomly cut out. We have never had rain, or clouds significantly slow our connection. The only weather that has caused problems is hail. We do have the older round dish, so maybe that makes a difference, but I know a lot of people with Starlink (most with the newer dish), and your the only one I've ever heard say rain and clouds cause problems.

I agree. T-mobile's web site says you can't move around with it w/o geting prior approval to where you are going. They only allow a certain amount of home internet people on a tower. I'm on a waiting list because my tower is full right now. I think the people that are doing it and are getting away with it just haven't been caught yet like some others have been. And in regards to the t-mobile folks in a store telling you you can, well based upon my numerous visits; most if not all really don't know diddly about the company and the products/services.

We are on our 18th year of full timers. Star Link is great and we have tried them all. As of this time the Star Link covers the complete US. They have done a great job of supplying a constant source internet to travelers. Finally we don't have to setup wifi in every park. Or over pay for cell service which is spotty at times. Because we still work from our RV we need a dependable service.

Until you come across trees. It needs a wide open sky. If you stay in the desert it will work fabulously for you. I have mine on pause and have used it for a total of less than ten days in the last 10 months. I find the TMobile Home Internet to be cheaper and faster- plus no throttling. I have been using T-Mobile home for two years and I have had no issues at all. I can connect anywhere. In addition, I also have a T-Mobile hotspot which is easier to carry around plus AT&T in my my phone. That’s all and I have never been without service and never got Starlink because I haven’t had issues with T-Mobile.

Great episode! And thank you for acknowledging the StarLink slow-down in the evening. I've talked to a few other StarLink owners who tell me I'm nuts, but it's a real thing. I don't know if StarLink is throttling me or if it's just that there are far more people home from work watching streaming TV during those hours. For a few months I was upset that I was paying $120 a month and my videos would keep stuttering! (But for the last couple of months, it's been slower, but never stutters - I think they launched more satellites.) One thing to know about T-Mobile internet home plan is that they try not to over-saturate a market, so in our little town, even though it is reported to work great, they won't sell me one! I've been on the wait list for 2 years and they just haven't expanded their capacity here - but it sounds like an great option! (And unless something's changed, if you already have T-Mobile on your phone, they were offering the whole home solution for only $25!)

I’ve used T mobile in the past and was very interested to look into their home internet offering. I called the big T mobile store downtown with some basic information regarding data upload vs download speed. Their “store expert” was clueless and said things like “the speed is 600” and completely confused when I asked if that was 600 mega bits per second or kilobits? They also had no information regarding download vs. upload rate OR WHY THAT MIGHT MATTER. It reminded me why I switched providers and confirmed that none of their problems have improved.

Directional cellular antennas work better than Omni-directional antennas. Enjoy your travels. We have starlink but it was a waste of money here. Starlink will not work anywhere here because we have solid trees anywhere in upper Midwest. Even with a 32' telescoping pole mounted on ladder it makes zero difference.

All you nice folks need to understand something: At the radio frequencies all these things are working at, greenery and foliage (like leaves) will weaken or block the signals. This is why some people say "it started great but after awhile it got bad" as they're not connecting it with being seasonal. This is blockage is evident in Starlink which works great in most of the open-sky west with nothing between you ad the satellite but drops when under a dense tree canopy back east. So you need to keep open sky over your Starlink antenna, and have your cellularantenna in the clearest path to the cell tower it's conecting to. Also know antennas are directional, so being too close to a tower may prevent you from connecting to it, with you being shuffled off to the nearest tower otherwise. You can google things like "Cell tower location" and ;provider service areas, but in general the higher your antenna the better. Once you understand the 'magic' of how it works you'll often find a little movement of the antenna can make a big difference in your results.

Cellular is great, when there's a signal. Startlink is a great back-up. So far, I've been to more campsites that have NO cellular service vs the ones that do, in which case, Starlink is the answer. Does it cost $$? Absolutely. If you can afford it as a nice-to-have, then go for it and use it as needed. If you're like me - and having access to the internet and wifi-calling can make you $10,000 - 30,000 + based on your line of work, then it more than pays for itself. Liz is right to cover all of the options and she does a great job explaining what other options are available, which is a great research aid for those in the market and/or looking to improve their current system. Yay! So glad you are happy with your HiBoost. I can't say enough good things about it. They also have a stronger directional booster that you may prefer since you won't be traveling with it. You just need to point it to the nearest tower (there are apps to find it) and then you're done. The 20% off will work on that one as well.

I went with a Visible wireless unlimited hotspot on an iphone 12 mini ($230) from Amazon that feeds a TP Link AC750 nano router ($37). I now get unlimited internet anywhere on Verizon's cell tower system and the router signal extends out to about 40 ft from my Airstream. Works like a champ, is cheap ($25 a month flat fee), is stable, I routinely see 5-8Mbps, and I've run 9 devices on it simultaneously without any issues, plus, I use the phone to support the internet 24 hrs a day and as a dedicated house phone. I could up the service to 5g for $10 a month more but have no need for the extra speed.

You mentioned MINT Mobile near the end. I have used MINT on my cell phone for over 5 years. I came from T-Mobile, so I new that the service coverage would be the same. I have been paying for their $25 (20 GB high speed). I recently called them (May 2023) about upgrading to the "Unlimited Plan". Like many providers, there is a cap of 30GB fast data. MINT is an MVNO which uses the T-Mobile network (not their own towers). Like all MVNOs they throttle you during congested times in deference to their higher paying customers. Recently T-Mobile bought the company, so I don't know if prices will eventually change.

Cell boosters work great, but you need to be an engineer to set it up properly, AND each setup has to be adjusted for each location. To set it up right you need to know what band you are going to be on, as well as what tower you are aiming for, AND even if you have one carrier you might be connecting to a different carriers tower.

If you have a directional antenna then you DO need to aim for the tower. Fortunately the HiBoost is omnidirectional AND no engineering degree needed. It does it all automatically-- thank goodness!

I'm leery of trying T Mobile. Many years ago, I had Voice Stream for cellular. I had billing problems with them every single month. 6 months in, T Mobile bought them. Billing problems continued. On month 10, they told me my annual contract had been renewed. I pointed out that was illegal to do so without my permission. Their response was to cancel me that day, with 2 months left on my contract. I always felt they were pretty shady. Hopefully, they've changed.

I've been with T-Mobile since Voicestream days. I've never had any problems with billing. They have often given me refunds when I have had concerns about messages that come saying I was near or at my Hotspot data limit, whereas the usage page showed the opposite. I've been rewarded with $10 - 50 refunds maybe four times over the last ten years. That's pretty good if you ask me.

I'm a long distance truck driver & was traveling from Denver to the east coast. My first bill had $700+ in out of network charges! They corrected that & screwed something else up. One month after another. Then, T Mobile bought them & continued that pattern. They canceled me because I complained about them renewing my contract without asking.

I installed TMHI in my home back in January (2023). I live just enough out in the country so my only previous option was DSL @ 1.0mbps DL speed on a good day! I setup the TMHI gateway on a shelf next to an upstairs south facing bedroom and got 200-400mbps DL speeds...AWESOME! Unlimited data, price locked at $30/mth! One correction to the video is that I have yet to see it, but TMHI is de-prioritized based on cell tower traffic, so many urban users complain that they get throttled badly at certain times.

I have Visible currently and have been very unhappy the last few months. They started messing with my service in December trying to force me to upgrade. When I finally caved their system wouldn't accept my new mailing address and after months of horrible service and fighting with their service team over my address they said "do a digital sim" so I did. Well, the service is even worse. I'm researching another phone option. We've been looking for internet options as well as I've been reliant on my cell's hotspot for work. This video is very helpful. Last I heard Starlink openly tells customers that if you use it in a mobile situation that your Internet speeds will be throttled. This was a product meant for rural stationary use. So they wanted to protect their intended audience by giving them the better speeds.

It depends on the Starlink package you buy. If you bought the home kit, you'd have to register your location every time you stop somewhere. We have the RV package and set up the antenna and have internet in about 10 minutes. We haven't had any of the issues Liz has had. It's worked great anywhere we've been, from Minnesota to New Mexico. Our throttling goes from 100mbps to around 30mbps, which is still great. Our upload speed has never been below 10mbps. We have 2 kids that game online and we've had no issues streaming movies while they play games. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I got T-Mobile Home network a couple months ago and I have been all over the state of Arizona and it has been a life saver. Only $30 per month no hardware to buy, unlimited data, boots up in a couple minutes and just a simply setup and the n you're good to go. I get my my campsite and it's up in running a 1-2 mounts after I plug it into power. It just sits on my Rv's dining table and I have to bother with configuring it to the RV parks network because it doesn't need it. It uses just cell service. If your cell phone has a connect then your Gateway will have a connection and it has better antennas. I feel I have hit the jack pot.

As far as the bad signal goes getting your device outside the camper is the best and first thing you should do. I actually put my device in the plastic vent cover over my bathroom exaust fan. The fan keeps the device cool, protected from rain and it is outside the camper walls. As for service I am using the FMCA. They have a plan for 12m down with unlimted data and no throttling, unless the tower is saturated but then it will be slow anyways, for 65 a month. It uses ATT for the service. The puck that comes with it has some issues so I bought a nighthawk ATT router which is 100 times better. Anyways that is how I connect on the go.

T-Mobile Internet is good! I moved from NYC to rural PA. Forget about regular internet providers! A friend recommended T-Mobile and it's great! $50 for the device and $50 per month. (You get a discount if you use a T-Mobile phone.) And it's fine. I have noticed slow-downs around midnight. I recommend you get the T-Mobile sales person to set it up for you in the store. There are several accounts and widgets to fiddle. After it's set up, you carry it home and plug it in! And you're good! T-Mobile recommends you place it high in the house, near a window. It works over the cell-phone towers.

T-mobile access takes second priority to regular cellular data. If there is a lot of traffic for regular cell phone users, (such during rush hour and early evenings) t-mobile gets slowed down. Here in Chicago, early evening speeds have ranged from about 1mg to 30 MB download. But eveing speeds have been far more in the 20-30 range. In the early AM hours is can range from 100-300 or more.

We have truly unlimited cellular hotspot data from all 3 major cell carriers cheaper then one Starlink subscription. 1. T-Mobile Home Internet 5G, $50. (Plus two grandfathered plans) 2. AT+T connected car plan for Mobley device, $23 (the sim card is currently in a Netgear MR1100 Nighthawk mobile router). 3. Verizon Prepaid Unlimited Plan for hotspots, $45 w/ the multiline discount and autopay. $118 total. We have a Weboost 4G DriveX Cell Booster and a couple of Netgear MIMO antennas for signal enhancement.

Wow, I got Mint about two years ago and love it. About a year ago I got Verizon home internet. It's been very good, even though I'm not a big Verizon fan. It's nice to know they have competition as that's always good for customers.

So hey.. I know it's an older video, but I wanted to give you an update: Back in our home city of Kalamazoo, we couldn't get TMobile home internet because they "didn't have coverage", but my cell phone was awesome on coverage. And I wrote about it on here a few months ago, because it was really disappointing. Well, we started full timing a few weeks back, and stopped at Cummins Ferry RV Park in Salvisa KY. I highly recommend the park.. holy cow! But, sadly, wife dropped her phone and we had to get it replaced. The local TMobile store was like "oh, your nomadic, have you seen our new home internet?" and I regalled them with the story.. they gave me that good ole southern "pshaw..".. and out the door I went with it. Helped that I was on the TMobile Military+ Plan, so I got grandfathered into the new device for a stellar $30/month. This thing is CRAZY FAST.. absolutely love it! We're on our second stop with it now in Alabama, and it's great! Thanks for pointing us this way Liz!

Great video! I also have a small RV so cell boosters are a non starter. I have a 20 foot pole. I turn on the hotspot, and blue tape my kids phone and a battery pack to the top of a 20 foot pole. And that height CAN SOMETIMES be just enough. Now I have a poor man's cell booster.

Funny TMobile worked great until I got to the desert in California. Then I got to Texas and even had worse service. The rep at the store did say you get use it moving around the country, but when I called in, they almost reprimanded me for using it that way. TMobile Home internet is great as long as you are within a covered area..

I was full timing around the turn of the century and so much has changed. My biggest problem was finding a place that had land line hookups, so I could use my fax machine. I was a sub contractor and that's how I turned in my weekly work sheets! It was during that time when I got my first computer too. The only internet available was dial-up and man was it slow!

Thank you for the excellent video I am a first viewer. I have the Winegard mounted on my roof with a Verizon SIM card but not overly impressed even have 50GB it is still expensive. We went with the Home-Fi which uses LTE, 5G, and 4G and bounces from T-Mobile to ATT and Verizon signals. Plus you can turn it off any month and only pay the activation fee of $11.00/month. When activated I can go with different plans but 450GB per month is only $100.00 which is far better than the Verizon package I used to have. In some cases, I was unable to get even a signal with Verizon so it's nice having options. Now so far I haven't the need to use a booster but not a bad idea but a little unfamiliar with them. I assume that adding a booster would enhance what I already have. Correct me if I am wrong. Anyway, thanks for the informative video.

Did you read your contract after Robert Taylor point out that the home internet unit has to stay stationary? This is important since many of your viewers may be purchasing them with faulty information, myself included.

@@LizAmazing I just spoke to a T-Mobile rep and was told that it must remain at your home address. It may work for awhile in the RV, but it is just a matter of time before it will stop working. The device knows which towers it is authorized for. Too bad...lit looked like a perfect streaming device for the RV. Thanks for your revies.
