You gotta keep the two-tone moss / garbage can look ✌️🙂 It will be a wicked mean machine when finished... the rear rim/tire combo is perfect now you need skinny drag spokes up front. How 'bout making a DD Speed Shop Calendar so we can keep track of the DD Speed Shop Fleet.... You could name or number the cars and list the upgrades or future work 😉👍

I assume you've never worked on a mid '60s Ford. One of those with the coil spring between the UPPER control arm and the body. That's the way my '64 Fairlane was. I really did almost get killed removing the springs from that. Those springs must be strong enough to hold up a 10 ton truck. I had the proper spring compressor (rented it from Autozone) and had it installed properly. From the second the compressor got tight, the spring did not want to compress. I double checked everything, nothing wrong. I put a piece of pipe on the breaker bar and forced it to turn. I got the spring compressed just enough to remove the upper control arm, and while I was pulling it out, the spring compressor broke, the spring flew out, flew by about two inches from my head, and landed about 50 feet down the street. I actually broke 2 spring compressors and damaged another one on that job, and it turned out to be all for nothing. I replaced everything. Spent over $1000 USD. And just like you said, about a year later, it was all junk. I got the parts from Dearborn Classics, which is part of Ecklers, one of the biggest restoration parts places in the U.S. But it was pretty obvious they got them from China. I never finished the car, I sold it just the way it was. There is nothing more frustrating than putting a lot of work and money into something, only to wind up with a pile of junk.

All springs, whether constant rate or not, change when you cut them. Think of it like this: take a 3 foot length of 1 inch diameter rod and bend it over your knee. Then, take a 1 foot section of that rod and try it again. It will take more effort than the 3 ft length. Shortening a spring works in a similar fashion.
@corvettejohn4507
@corvettejohn4507 10 ай бұрын
Yes, shortening a coil spring makes it stiffer because there are less active coils.

I vote that you should clean it, sand it, and spray it in light gray primer. If you really want to “pee-off” some viewers, install one of the in-line sixes that you pulled out of the other cars. 😅 A hopped up “one lung” with and automatic would be a mind numbing combination 🤭

Anybody can restore a complete rust free running car but most of us cannot afford it. This car is what most of us can afford but then not know how to proceed be overwhelmed by the amount of work needed and 5 years later sell it at a loss cause the wife is tired of looking at it. You have the luxury of A an understanding and supportive woman and 2 a stock room / shed of parts and pieces along with plan 7 a network of people who funnel rusty crap your way and lastly a dangerous amount of know how and abilities along with the work ethic to take on 3 project cars at once while filming most ok maybe not most but some of it. So yeah this is fun to watch I'm waiting for your hair to catch on fire! Oh and how do you manage to work out where all your cars are which ones you have parts for, need work, run, insurance, inspections, daily maintenance plus regular work stress ......... do you drink heavily?

Dan, I love what you’re doing with this car. Please stop listening to the clowns that are trying to get you to invest tens of thousands of dollars into and make it a garage queen, show car that never drives on public roads only fair ground parking lots. But I do have to say, it makes me crazy you have over 20 cool cars and don’t drive them all. I know it’s a KZbin thing but either start selling some of them or do some upgrades to some existing cars. But for the record, I envision this when it’s done to be a really cool, bad ass hot rod. Maybe not a blower sticking up out of the engine bay like Newburn, but still way cool. Keep doing it the DD Speedshop way!! -Dan

I'm doing a similar build on a '57 Ford 2 door coupe that was every bit as crappy as your 57 Chevy. Despite what the Ford haters might say, the construction methods between the Chevy and the Ford are quite similar so I've learned a lot by watching you!

I can say that I’ve never owned a GM older than ‘87, so I learn something on every DDSS upload…and I’m not too GD proud to admit it. I watch them all & enjoy every one. I don’t believe that folks understand what you’re actually up to. I believe you take something that would sit indefinitely & get it on the road for someone else to take it further or enjoy it as is. that’s freaking regal, Dude. you’re not just Saving or Reviving these classics…you’re also inspiring folks to do something with anything, regardless of what their current skills are. thank you for this. we need you right where you are & those that disagree can go ______ in a hat.

Dan Dan my man! Being a hack from way back, I'm usually in your corner. But! When it comes to the paint on that 57, sorry man, it not just ugly, it's fugley! It's going to be mostly primer, with all the patches, and bodywork. I know you call it worlds worst, but it's NOT, by far, and deserves better. Full primer, flat black, it can be cheap, but especially with you lowering it, think sinister. Just my two cents. Oh BTW old carpet, some of the good stuff is even wool, to sit on, your hips will thank you in ten years!

No disrespect intended, but... BEWARE cheap control arms! I bought a set of first gen Camaro arms on sale from Speedway, and found these problems: -holes for sway bar links didn't line up. -bump stops didn't align with the pads on the subframe. -one upper ball joint was very sloppy. -worst of all, much of the welding is sketchy or downright dangerous. I sandblasted the thick powder coat off the lower arms to inspect the welds where the main tubes join the inner pivots, and found massive undercuts and HOLES in the welds. Scary stuff. I rewelded most of the joints with tig. There are a lot of these things for sale all over. They all have the same red rectangular bump stop and red conical droop stop. They're junk. I understand the attraction of low prices, but you get what you pay for. How much is your car worth? How much is your life worth? Next time I'll save up for name brand parts.
