Last time we tried to put a mill in this ratty 1957 Chevy, we where let down big time. The FREE 283 off marketplace ended up having no compression and wouldn't run.
So we had to move on to plan B. A bone stock, high mileage 5.3 Ls I had sitting on the garage floor. Carbureted ofcourse.... Naturally it doesn't fit and fights me the whole way in.

Hi Dan you always talk of Mortske. Don't let him bother you he bad mouths Puddin as well I seen his hacks he always talk about loosing his shop. I don't see how his net worth is a half million. You are right he focuses on selling his merchandise. I am a disabled Viet-Nam Vet. I like how living in Canada and you display the American Flag. You're not a hack. You get the job done to the best of your ability. Keep up the good work.

In my mind, a 1st Gen SBC has a soul, an LS does not. I would pull out the 3 stone hone, the lapping compound, buy a cheap Amazon SBC Rebuild kit and show that the 283 can be rebuilt and run well on the cheap. It would go well with the spirit of the Ratty '57 Hardtop build. That's just my vote, it's your car and you pay the bills! Dan can do no wrong when a Tri-Five is saved instead of facing the crusher! As always, I will continue to watch! Keep up the great work!

Hey Dan, Please be careful with your back. You surely don't want to end up with a back like mine. I had one surgery and that surgeon screwed it up worse. Now they want to do 2 more surgeries and no guarantees. Screw them. I'll keep taking my pain meds and live the best I can. By the way, I was a mechanic all my life till I was 40 and blew out my back. Another thing, I wish I could be tripping over tri fives like you. lol Love your channel and videos, including your knowledge of tri fives. Take care and be safe.

I found my first 57 Chevy Bel Air two door hardtop behind a barn in the 1970s. It was worse than the hardtop being worked on here. The car was stored on my family farm. I went out to junkyards gathering up parts to fix it up. One day I went up to the farm to work on the 57 and found it shot up by 12 gauge shotguns. End of project.
