I am a female truck driver in Europe. I have 5 weeks holidays per year and the rest of the year I spend in the truck. I just bought Chrysler Pacifica from the USA, it’s still in the port of New Jersey, but it will travel to Europe soon 😂 When I get it, I will fix it and turn into a mini van camper, so I can live in there. And it’s ok, it’s important, that I have a roof over my had and a full stomach.

She says it's peaceful in park. I would love to build a small tiny home community for elderly women who are homeless and I know many that are 65 older. How do I go about doing so 🤔 any idea? Maybe nonprofit organization for elderly woman in need to stay safe traveling or just in certain areas each city. Thxs Aim

Oh after my husband passed away, our landlord couldn't wait till I got his insurance check because I was going to offer to buy the house we'd lived in for 5 years, so what did he do? He raised my rent by $65.00, which I couldn't at that time afford, so family helped me move my stuff to my mom's garage & spare room & I went & bought a tent & lived at the campground for a month. I had to stay in the local area to handle business & get the mail. So I bought me a small cottage by putting down 20% & fianicing the rest & at that time I only had my disability check to live on, 4 more payments & the house is all mine. YAY!!

Hats off to Dee. This was so encouraging! I also live on pretty low Social Security, and own an even older model vehicle than yours, plus live with several medical problems. I’m an artist and cat owner too, so it’s really encouraging to me that you have found room for both your pet and your creative activities. I really appreciate all the detailed info about the bathroom, water, heat, power, cooking and storage arrangements. I’ve watched more than a few videos about “van life,” have been seriously discouraged by the cost of even the smaller vehicles and the skills required for the builds. Having seen you and your car, I might actually be able to make a nomadic lifestyle work for me. Thanks, Bob, for appreciating less usual solutions and particularly for showing this one.

Social security is paid out to how much you put in.... And it's a pretty simple formula and it works.. to be a free lance business owner.. best be sure that you're set for the future that comes up..the safety net can only be so big
@henrybermudo6894
@henrybermudo6894 Жыл бұрын
Yes to Susan. Living on "pretty low social security" is not an issue. High income is for the extravagant. One hundred dollars is a month supply of food from e.g. Dollar Tree. Twenty dollars gas is good for two weeks when you don't run around uselessly all day. Clothes are cheap at Goodwill. You keep sanitation in proper order... clothes, shoes, clean car etc, without showing off and you're fine. The rest of your social security goes to your bank savings. When you've built up enough on that extra, move up to a more comfortable car or van. You'll be surprised as you learn the very basics of needs is all you need. Your high flying friends, a palace, a limousine etc. are not necessity. Instead, feed your stomach (food and water), feed your brain with good info on how to care for body aches and pain. Medicine helps numb but physicality builds you up against any weather. Worry and concern must not be in your thoughts. Find that safe place in town to stay at, eg. your mom's driveway etc. And live free. Recall that your great grand parents in the old west live in tents in all inclement weather and situations and sorroundings. So much sermons can be said but it boils down to simplify life, like this heroic lady.

For an American, a child of the wealthiest society/country in this planet, there is no reason for her (Dee) or any other humans to be left to the mercy of such dire existence. Can the whole society not see that, in general, poverty, begarism and stark homelessness is a social disease exceeding the ranks of COVID, SARS, EBOLA, etc. Exceeding! Are we not ever ashame that while our society is looked at by all nations of our planet earth with awe and respect, the only fighter against oppression, most willing to send it's children to war and in harms way for that reason of human life protection, dignity and advancement, are we not ashame that within us, inside us we have this unnecessary disease that is as easily curable as a common headache. Homelessness, while truly all the homeless peoples in the USA are awesomely portraying the very American spirit of courage in the middle of the mightiest storm, homelessness is easily curable. But for the strangest reason, this vileness of inhuman condition is romanticized. We choose to leave it as it is it seem so we can write a ballad that will make us cry. Is this what the founders of our society had in mind? We need to stop ignoring the implementing of the simple cure. These, our very family members (our father, mother, brother, sister, sons and daughters) are moment by moment trying their very best to also partake of the good American Life. However, they have lost hope of having someone to guide them out of this storm. Are we, America, going to simply continue to allow this dark human condition to be? What about you? We protest in mass to force a change and are always successful. We became the USA by protesting against England. How long do we wait? I suppose until we become evicted from our normal home. Remember now, "homeless" is defined in todays dictionary as a "life in fear, hunger, uncertainty, harassment, hopelessness and reviling from our used to be loved ones". What if for the same reasons you are suddenly cast out as such, all your anchors disappears. It takes one tragic event to find ourselves wrapped by this "disease". Help! Tell the world how to cure this social malady. Your genius could be the cure. You can be an instant hero, an instant celebrity who saved a man, woman or child from this calamity. Help! Surviving in the streets of the USA is in un-American. Yes, we had the Gypsies in the past. But they lived in lavished wheeled houses (fifth wheelers now motorized). They chose that lifestyle. But today's homeless is sending every American in affluence a strong message "help us, we don't know what to do".

This is how pioneers lived (without a car), they slept in their horse drawn wagons. When I was young I lived in my van for 2 years due to Vietnam PTSD. It took me that long to recover enough to try and put down roots in an apt. The experience was liberating and gave me time to work through issues without folks interferring where they just had no idea what I was dealing with. It can be done and any who are put upon in this life can do it too.

Thank you so much for your comment. I really hope you are doing OK now. And healing from the awful ptsd. I don't have ptsd from being in a war, (I can't imagine) but I do have a lot if cptsd from childhood, bad marriage, and the last 2 1/2 years being homeless, and care broke down in the meantime, and dealing with debilitating chronic health conditions at same time. Ptsd from being physically attacked last year, etc. I am having a tough time (even with therapy), dealing with people who, like you said, don't understand why I deal with things the way I do, the freeze response to stress, hypervigilance, nerves being on fire most if the time, etc. I just was able to acquire a cheap van, and thought being on the road, living in my van camping, etc, will give me quiet time to do some healing. I'm 63 and some think I'm crazy for doing this as a woman. I've seen numerous videos of women my age and older doing the van living thing. I'm getting my van ready, as cheap as I can as (I live on ssdi), and as easy as I can as my physical strength has left me the past 3 years. Thanks again for sharing

try getting some cheap wool blankets and form a low tent structure from 2-4 blankets (40 bucks at harbor freight?)( wash them first if you can) bind them together so you have airspace between you and the blanket/tent structure (a canopy would be ideal) probably an air mattress would work to lay on and if can lay that on another wool blanket....when not in use make it so you can just raise it all up and strap it to the inside top of canopy with bungy cords or disassemble if needed........ you can get a good wool blanket to cover with and be comfortable.(150-300$) if you can..The tent structure should be full sides and ends with probably a small vent (hole) or not at the top and only enough airspace between you and the outside so you are comfortable ...... No I haven't tried it yet..But I'm getting close and that's what I'm going to do....Maybe you could even fab the tent structure around the front seat if needed to..

Dee has inspired me to lose some of my fear of being homeless. Thank you so much! I was "let go" from a job I had for 10 years at the age of 54. I have Type 1 Diabetes, Osteoarthritis, and Hard-of-Hearing. It took a month and a half to find a part-time job, which is keeping me afloat combined with the little savings I have. Two years ago I decided to work toward a Nomad life, RV and small car, and was saving toward that. Watching my savings deplete at an alarming pace sent me into a panic. It's been touch-and-go hanging onto what I have and the fight is exhausting. I've started downsizing my stuff and been doing lots of internet research. I've honestly considered living out of my car with my cat... Thanks again for the inspiration to get over my fears and get out of panic mode and I hope Dee is thriving. Say and think what you will, but people who can make living in a small space work are bad ass! Everybody has their own unique ways of doing things with the space they have. Its a VERY DIY life. And I have a lot of respect for people who make life work with only a tiny space. All you really need is a comfy, dry, warm place to sleep, a place to cook/wash hands/dishes, a way to clean yourself, and a place to go to the bathroom. I personally live on a boat. But I love these videos so much because I love seeing people make life work in even smaller spaces than my boat. Good on you, Bob. Youre helping lots of people in these *ridiculously* expensive-to-live times. (I love your lifeboat analogy.) BE FRUGAL people. Live simply and well. WORK HARD and SAVE ALL YOU CAN! I totally agree with you! I grew up in a very poor family. Now we're older and have our jobs, apartment, car etc but thinking back, we were happier then-when we were poor because we had each other even though we had just enough to survive

I live in my car I'm disabled but I've survived for 14 years living in my car a mid sized sedan. Bathing is the hardest part of If I don't put up a tarp for privacy on rainy days I collect my wood for winter and have a one burner propane stove, I also get canned heat in case I get cold in my car, it works out good for me. I have clothes for all seasons and blankets that work for me because I don't like sleeping bags. Carrying enough water to bathe daily is rough the containers take up more room than I like but I like to bathe daily. It's not easy some days it down right sucks but it's better than the streets. God protects me and provides my every need I'm thankful for what I have. 20:40

Dee, you’re a legend. It’s great to see how practical you are and your adventures are just beginning. I believe lots of people are going to ask you heaps of questions about how and why you did it. Thanks for the ‘Memory Foam and Down doona’ ideas. They too make sense but most people (Me) would not have thought of that. I guess we don’t get it that cold in Queensland Australia around our home. We hardly ever see a frost here.

Amazing. As long as she’s safe and healthy…. I’d love an update on Dee. That bed looks so comfortable. I know it’s not the best situation. But god bless. There are options. She is awesome. I’m sure she traded in a lot of toxicity and well worth it. I never considered this. 20 years ago I’d never consider a studio apartment. Now I’m considering this. I can barely afford the studio now. Like Dee was, survival with no extras. This is not homeless. This is a choice, wherever she goes is home.

Hard for me to know what to say. She is very strong & determined & like me, she didn't leave her dog behind or give her up to a shelter. Very well behaved little lady (Dolly) too. I had to live in my car twice, 2 different cars as a few years between times. My story follows: I did not need to set up my car like Dee did. The first time was back in the 70s when gas stations all had public restrooms where I could "go", use the sink to wash up & wash my hair, clothes, etc... It was a 1963 Grand Prix so pretty big. If I was ever asked my address for anything I always said, "63 Grand Prix, Pontiac, NJ." I did not have an income but had a little money set aside that had to last me indefinitely. I ate twice a day at the cheap burger places that existed back then. I could eat for under $1 most of the time. I also had a friend that would let me use her shower now & then. She lived with her parents so she had to check with them. In summer I also had occasion to wash my hair & myself in the nearby river. I slept on my front reclining seat & ran a little heat when needed throughout the night. My clothes were in boxes in the trunk along with toothbrush & other needed toiletries. I had other things in boxes on my back seat. During the day I would go walking or catching up on sleep that I missed overnight due to being so nervous. I usually parked to sleep in store parking lots but with people walking by I was rarely comfortable about my safety. Other times I would go in stores to get warm or to cool off. I lived in my car for 7 months the first time so I had cold & hot weather. I wish I had a nice screen house as my living room during the day like Dee has. That would have been nice. But it appears that she is parked at a camp ground of some kind. That's something that was not around where I "lived". I was still very young at the time. Only 20. Spent my 21st birthday in a hospital & was in there for 3 weeks. Got carbon monoxide poisoning from a leaky exhaust system. My doctor did lots of tests while I was in there so the insurance company would pay for my stay & I would be in a safe, warm place for at least 3 weeks. He was a great guy! So, you do what you need to do to survive in this world even when it's a bit inconvenient. The second time was an '87 Taurus & I wasn't in it as long. I was older so it not quite as easy on me with health problems & times had changed the 70s conveniences. The one thing that I MUST say to Dee is: You were smart to get away from a bad relationship when you did!!! I wasn't that smart the second time. Anything, no matter how hard, is better than putting up with abuse of any kind from anyone!! I learned that the hard way & you were smart enough to know when to call it quits for good!! Bravo to you!! God bless you & Dolly. Take good care of her.... She loves you!!

Lucky for me I had a van and lived in it for a year on parking lots. I couch surfed a while but kept my van as a safe guard. Then I met the love of my life and sold the van and bought her a nice car. Today we are happily married and are loving life. Dee I see where there are people who want to start a collection for you to get a van. I don't know how it's done but it's called _Go Fund Me. My mom forsaw this exact situation except my dad died of lung cancer at the age of 63 so when she was 44 years old, my mom saved enough in the bank to buy herself a 1999 Leisure Travel Widebody Class B RV Van which she rarely drove all these years but once a month to make sure the engine kept running. After my dad died 2 years ago, she too had a hard time paying for bills so she packed all her stuff into her RV van(it's a nice little RV, it has everything... a queen-size bed, microwave, stove and refrigerator along with a quaint bathroom with a toilet and a shower). She loves it because it has everything her previous home used to have to live. She lives on $750 a month and with little to no bills and never needing to pay for traditional rent she has all that money for the good life with fine dining at restaurants and shopping at her local mall for clothes and everything else she needs to live on a monthly basis. To all women who forsee a divorce or a husband in poor health...lease a used 1999 Leisure Travel Widebody Class B RV even a used RV will save your life later on when you are forced to live on your own. I wish you all the best and God bless.
