He should make that into a series 'cheater or grandmaster'. Like people should send him games from closed accounts or grandnasters and he can't have the engine up and has to figure out if they are cheating or not. Would be cool
@crbrearley
@crbrearley 3 жыл бұрын
I think this would be easier than you'd expect but might still be quite instructive. Engine moves seem to me to be less logical but somehow still work perfectly. Or have scary stupid geometry. The strong players just seem to know because the engine does things like leave the king in the open because it sees no danger whereas a human player could never be sure and would guard against it.

@@potatobake2707 In my experience, it's these extremely long or short games that have the highest percentages. When it's all theory, or when you just shuffle your pieces around for 50 moves, there's no real opportunity for big mistakes, so you consistently build up 85+ percent accuracy. If the 96% game was shorter than 40 moves though? That's impressive

There's this misconception that lower rated players can't see tactical combinations. If the opponent sucks and blunders into a puzzle-like position, I can occasionally turn into Morphy-mode, and then get accused of cheating. What is holding many players back is in many cases not lack of tactical ability but high blunder frequency and lack of positional understanding

Yeah when I was 800 rapid I found room for knight sac and if he took it was forced mate, I found a rook for pawn sacrifice and if he took I would have taken another room and pawn back and would have(probably) checkmated him and I found a clean knight sacrifice to win a rook. It’s nuts what I can find sometimes. And then I pin my queen to my king on the fifth move.

How difficult was this series of moves to spot? As a very mediocre (1000 rated) player it looked almost impossible (but beautiful) but what do you higher rated players think?
@somebodyuknow2507
@somebodyuknow2507 3 жыл бұрын
@@joakimquensel597 quite difficult. You have to see that you want d5, but having your rook on e4 would lose initiative when the knight takes it and you have to spend time recapturing. You have to then realize that sacing the exchange allows you to get d5 in which lets you bring the queen to the party. With time, I would say the average 1800 finds this. After getting Qd6+ in, calculating the forcing lines of the king hunt is even more impressive considering the backwards knight move (2000 or so), but it’s also possible that black YOLO’d on instinct.

Nah, mostly people submit entertaining games with twists. Someone's best game would be boring as they just would totally destroy, not much to say about it.

Hey levy! I’ve been watching your videos for a few months now, love the guess the Elo series! But I’d love to make a suggestion! You should record how close you were to each guess and at the end of the video you can add your total to see how well you did compared to other guess the elo episodes going forward

I hit 1650 yesterday, was closer to 700 at the start of the year, thanks a lot Levy, I couldn't have done it without your content 😀. Also, was considering buying a course to progress further and wondered if you would recommend me to buy one of your courses for my current elo or are they are aimed at fundamentals?

I am at a similar rating and recently bought his Intermediate Boot Camp. I honestly recommend it because it goes over some decent information. I learned chess up to this point off of pure instinct and natural ability, so I never really took the time to study the basics or fundamentals. The Intermediate Boot Camp covers a lot of concepts and methodologies that I skipped over during my climb, even if some of the content is aimed at lower rated players.

@Zoë Cheney I haven't had any tutors no, I just watch gothams KZbin videos for entertaintment and learnt a lot as a side effect. I think it's truly amazing how much there is to learn here on this channel while enjoying the content. But to progress further I think it's wise for me to look into buying courses.

If you know tactics from playing chess, you see G4 instantly. If you know tactics from puzzles, you never see it. Smothered mate is the reverse.

4:35 It’s actually around 5 or 6 moves that he could have trapped the bishop with an advantage. If he played g4 and then h5, the rook would have taken the knight on e5, attacking the queen.
