I once convinced my cousin to trade away his right to collect rent money from me early into the game. I worked it so that he would be the most successful one and i stayed alive under the radar with a few good properties. The look on his face when it became just the two of us, and i slowly took everything from him was priceless.

I regularly utilize a variant of this when trying to get a monopoly or finish my railroad set. "give me X property, in exchange I'll give you X and you won't have to pay rent/half rent on any of my railroads the rest of the game/till we're finalists". It helps me get ahead with a steady stream of income from the other players, whilst also crippling their ability to invest in early properties. Meanwhile the player who I traded with sees it as a win/win for them because they're getting paid and dodging the downside of my monopoly. What they don't realize is that with my new revenue stream slowly picking off other players, I can now more easily fill out the rest of the board and eventually drain them in a slightly more drawn out, but very reliable battle of attrition. I've also found that players are a lot more receptive to deals like this because you're offering them something nebulous that they aren't primed to reject outright. The math is relatively simple on the value of the deal for you based on how many other players are at the table. But it's a bit harder for them to quantify so they almost have to think about your deal rather than just saying "no thanks I don't want to give you a monopoly" meaning it'll be a lot easier to convince people in the first place. Also it's fun to watch every other player at the table get mad at the person who enabled you to win instead of you for winning.

There might be a way to make sneaking hotels on your properties a lot easier with a loophole: 1. As long as the card is not on the table, snag a hotel, because as long as you don't place it, you're neither breaking the rules nor cheating within the rules. 2. When the card appears and if the other players have dementia, you have a hotel up your sleeve and keep to what Blaine said. 3. I don't actually own the game, so I might be wrong.

it's Cheater's Mode, not Nomic mode. no one is obligated to go along with your cheats, they just can't stop them/have specific limited abilities for doing so. you still have to win yourself. and, to be fair, a Nomic Monopoly would likely have rules in place to ensure people HAVE to agree with a rule you pose, before it becomes standard.

In my experience, even when playing cheating edition with the limited cheats, almost every group I've ever tried playing with devolves into ultimate cheaters edition against the player who is winning as players begin to just ignore what "cheats" are allowed at any given time and get absurd with stealing money, properties, and hotels and all of them silently agree to not call each other out as they turn on the winning player. Then there's the player who claims other players are cheating every turn, even if they are wrong and suffer the consequences as such but they continue to do so anyway. Long story short, my family and the youth group I played this with hated playing it with me and refused to ever play it again when we were done. Especially my brother who still doesn't think it's fair to adjust the results on the dice to hide evidence of "cheating."

This actually adds so much potential... to a _completely different game._ Munchkin has various "Cheat!" cards, including "Cheat With Both Hands" and "Cheat Like There's No Tomorrow"... but nothing says the cards you "cheat" _with_ have to specifically be Munchkin cards... If you somehow managed to sneak Monopoly Cheater's Edition cards into your Munchkin game, and can think of suitably funny ways to make them apply, you're in the money. Maybe you "steal from the bank" to have enough money to go straight to Level 9, for example...
@XSniper74184

Playing Munchkin is a blast with friends because we play with the rules that, "cheating is not allowed, it is encouraged," so everything's legal unless you get caught. This nearly always leads to a Mexican standoff of everyone having too many arms, wearing two sets of armour, multi-classing without the card, or holding too many cards in their hand but no one calls anyone else out because they know they'd also be called on their cheats.

One interesting rule that is in the base version of monopoly: cheaters edition is that only one player can be in jail at any given time (aka the reason for the handcuff’s existence besides the escape artist cheat) this means that if you get put in jail but someone else gets put in jail right after yourself then you get out of jail free. Of course this can lead to the “conga line of idiots” situation where everyone gets sent to the jail space and then scramble for the “meta” properties.

Stealing a hotel from the bank can be a lot easier in the late-game with a good situation and sleight of hand. Get 4 houses, and palm an extra hotel when you go to exchange. Me and my classmates played monopoly on a train journey. I had just learned the game from my bf that morning and played one game with him and another kid before this game with the rest of my classmates. The rest of them hadn't played before so we explained the rules and began. There were 6 of us and me, my bf and a younger kid played solo while the others played as teams of 2 so everyone could play. Well the first two losers were two teams and the girl on the other team kinda made up her own rules and bought all the assets of one of the losing teams for 1 dollar. Me and the solo players just got completely confused. Those assets were supposed to go to the bank bit she didnt budge. I got so mad tbh but didnt do much. Oh and I was the banker too so this girl also tried to steal money a lot from me so all in all kinda annoying (but it was fun). Well since then me and my bf (even tho we were competing with each other too) started working together. We'd land on her houses and would just act like nothing and she wouldn't notice. So we left without paying and eventually bankrupt her. Doing that with him was the most fun part for me tbh. So cheating in monopoly was the best and worst parts of the game and it was the best time I had. Well another's funny thung was the solo players played for soo long that the others literally got annoyed at how long we played for. Like it went on for more than 6 hours or somn

This actually sounds pretty fun to try. If you can keep things like properties, money, etc if you haven't been caught until the next player's turn, I could imagine some insane things I could attempt. Usually when I play Monopoly with family we're typically more focused on our own moves and since we're at a table it becomes quite easy to just steal things from the person right next to you. But that's one of the more mundane things, I could possibly come up with a few crazy cheats.

That is.... Just wow.... And it works in many more games than just Monopoly. (I only know of one single game with rules about changing denominations of money.) The only problems: The other players can just decide to over-pay or under-receive money. Limiting how much you can squeeze out of any such transaction. And your opponents can easily copy you. But that's a problem with any cheat (or any "perfectly legitimate strategy") - except for ones that you _NEVER_ get caught on.

One of my main problems with the original Monopoly was that it wouldn't really end if someone was not willing to make a bad decision for the sake of getting to the end. Yes, I know which colours are the strong ones and which you should buy. But since it's not really determined by you what you can buy, you will always end up in a position where different parts are bought by different people. And getting trades done in this envoirenment when other people know as well what you need makes the whole thing impossible to actually beat. Because without houses, there is no actual way to force someone into a trade as it's nearly impossible to go bankrupt and therefore needing to make a trade. So having cheats is actually a way around that problem even though it might become even more dependent on luck. But let's be honest, better that than waiting for several hours until someone is so tired that they just agree to a trade to put an end to this game.

Seeing that single red hotel on the third blue space - the big issue is that most people don't even understand the rules of base monopoly. Firstly you can't buy houses / hotels without owning the whole colour set, and secondly they have to be built evenly on each property, so if you want a hotel you first have to have 4 houses on each property. Under the real ruleset, hotel denial is actually the most powerful gambit - if a player buys out all the houses, no one else can buy any hotels. This actually makes the brown and light blue tiles very valuable as they cost the least for houses.

Our easy house rule for this one is escalating sentences. Jail is 50$ times the square of the number of times you have been there this game. 1st time 50 2nd 200 3 450 4 800 Doubles still get you out, but the stack continues. you go bankrupt real fast if you get caught.

Easy way to win: get the chance card where you can blame a different player for your crime, and wait until the bank heist card is on the board, then steal all the money and you can get away with it

"A game that anyone can enjoy to some extent" The only way I will ever enjoy Monopoly is watching it burn in a bonfire that I'm roasting marshmallows over. So I guess it's technically a true statement, to some extent.

I played cheaters monopoly with my family. I just grabbed all the money in the bank and we were all laughing. Nobody officially called me a cheater so I just broke the economy. I think I won.

Fun pack everyone plays Monopoly wrong and that's why it takes forever. If someone lands on a property and they do not want to buy it or can't afford to buy it and it's auctioned off to the highest better . And with no exceptions.. this results in the board filling up fast and people being able to claim pieces on the board they didn't actually land. This allows the board to be caught up quickly and most players with the least amount of money will be eliminated very. The average professional Monopoly tournaments like 15 minutes

He provided the perfect way to get a hotel and doesn't even know it. When you're turn comes up, be very quick in grabbing the bank, like your exited. So quick, that half the hotels pour out! And if you keep one while picking up... Well, that's your business isn't it?
