How I would play hole 1 as a 12 handicap with little time to practice: Walk up straight from the car because I didn't have time to warm up. Smash driver hard as well, except I'd mishit it and it'd only go 200 yards and not straight with a really uncomfortable stiff swing. From then on, I just focus on bogey and move on to hole 2. Hole2 - I'd catch it a little thin with my gap wedge and it'd go over the green. Try my best to make 3 but probably a 4. Hole3- When i see 343 downhill, I think low punch running 4 iron that goes 200-215. Just try to control anything and make contact as I have yet to do that well. Hole4- Probably try and draw a hybrid starting it at the tree on the right. It'd probably be a duck hook low into the white tree on the left. Focus on bogey at worst. 4 over through 4 but I'm finally loose.

Just a comment on the 1st tip & searching for that "extra speed driver swing". I'm 55 & back is delicate now. I've found a tee'd down, medium speed, driver strike that's consistent (ok, 230 to 240 yards total only). You have to remember for some of us over 50, practicing more & trying to swing harder would simply result in injury (and yes, I stretch and do gym work A LOT).

I'm a 4.0 Index. I've been under 1 at my lowest. That stat of being 34 feet from 100 to 125 I found surprising. It feels like I'm closer than that from that distance. I'm usually within 5 steps short or long and 5 steps right or left, not 10 steps. Generally if I have less than PW I have a decent putt at it. Once I hit numbered irons, I'm not pin hunting anymore. I just take a club I can't hit long and aim for the fat side. Weird stat. I'm pacing off my wedge shots next round!

Lol, I love when people put up tour average stats and say, "See, this proves you should be doing xyz". Erm, no it doesn't, we ain't pros, nowhere near pros. The fact is (as you yourself demonstrated) a pro can play out of the rough infinitely better than all amateurs. So a particular amateur might duff 4/10 of his shots from the fairway but 8/10 from medium-to-heavy rough. So you can't tell that golfer it's better to be closer and in the rough. Anyway, I'm a scratch golfer, I write down my good scores and scratch out my bad ones! Nice video by the way.

I use shot scope “strategy”. It show my distribution and with wind direction and speed I can plan every hole. I can change what club off the tee to see which one keeps me out of trouble, taking into account the wind and slope. It is really good with the approach shot and shows into the wind what is actually plays. This gives me confidence to actually play 2 clubs extra if needed, without guessing. It gives me a plan to stick to.

My frustration with that feature on Shot Scope is it shows the dispersion of clubs as even on bothe sides of center line. Would be must more helpful if the dispersion was either side of your aiming line, sadly there is no way this can be done as SS assumes you are aiming at the centre of the fairway on every shot when it works our your dispersion. (So If I aim down the left and hit left semi I may only be 5 yards off line, but in SS data banks, thats recorded as the disatnce from the centre of the fairway). Also how do you get it to take account of slope?
@kevochanner88592 ай бұрын
@@theythinkimmadyouknow The slope setting etc and disputing are under settings near save. The distribution can move by grabbing the circle at the end of your drive. You can move it left or right so that your distribution is not in the bush! You can move where you tee off from before you assign the club off the tee. On par 5 you can drag a spot from the green flag back to your lay up distance and it will tell you the plays like distance taking into account wind slope etc.

@@kevochanner8859 Thanks, I knew about moving the distribution about but it assumes the spead is even, can work round that. The worst thing is possible the in ability to look at approach shots.

@CoachLockey2 ай бұрын
I would say most people don't actually know if one club has more potential to be in play or not which is why you get the comments, "ill lay up and play safe". And most golfers don't collect stats so again dont know the answer. If you have the stats, play your percentages.

I've got a 140 yarder over a surrounding lake, small green, and bunkers and humps behind. I know its good for an 8 iron, but I sometimes get tense, and draw the 7. If I'm not too tense, I end up walloping it over the back. If I'm too tense, I don't strike it well and 'plop'. I have to stick with the right club for me, but I often bottle it. 😂
@markstringer55552 ай бұрын
I play quite conservatively when scoring. Im 14 handicap, but wat too inconsistent to get that. (Quirks of the system) I dont score that often though, and go for the hero shots when I'm not. I work hard on the range too, but I think you've always got to stretch yourself to keep going forward. I sometimes play with a group who compete and score everytime. And they always play the percentages. When we do play, I usually come in behind even though they are higher handicap. I dont want to stand still though.

My rule of thumb is to always tee up shots. Even when it is a wedge, the tee box is much different grass than what you would normally hit a wedge or iron off of. Typically those shots, the ball is already teed up higher due to the different length of grass.

First hole - “I don’t know and didn’t look at where that flag is on the green”. One of the first things to do to improve your score is to know where you want to be on the green (ideally) and where your most common miss would land. Avoiding problems and giving yourself a reasonable up and down for par after a miss is priority.
Why tee up a wedge though? Normally on the fairway you hit down and compress the ball. Why not do the same on a short par 3? Otherwise it's a different swing isn't it...more of a sweep?

@CoachLockey4 күн бұрын
Why don’t you make your objective in your mind to finish past the flag. Then when you start hitting it well, ask yourself, how many have actually finished long of the flag with your objective being to finish past it, I bet not many still so you could probably hit even more club or the same but a lot more confident 👍

The theory is that a ball below your feet will result in a "slice". It doesn't change whether you're left or right handed as you state....its the same. The slice may be to the left or to the right, but it will still be a slice.
@CoachLockey2 ай бұрын
What? 😂 If ball is below your feet for a right handed golfer it’s likely to move the ball left to right, a fade/slice. If you are on the same slope as a left handed golfer, the ball will be above your feet also causing the ball to move left to right….but this is a draw/hook for a left handed golfer.
@sprintman622 ай бұрын
I agree with your point if both players were to hit the same ball from the same point, but that isn't what you said. (3' 50"). You simply state that if the ball is below your feet it will slice for a right handed golfer, draw for a left handed golfer ... you perhaps should have put it in to context for clarity.

Missing fairways and missing greens - unlucky? Where's your stats Coach Lockey? Anecdotes are not evidence. Using a putter from off the green is often a good idea but no one practises these putts from off the green! The 3rd hole is only 348 yards - you don't need a driver. A 3-wood or hybrid gives you a wedge in from the fairway most likely where you can hit a controlled full shot. You were lucky with your lie and did not hit a good approach putting yourself in 3-putt territory. Okay 4th hole - well played.
