CHECK & SET THE HEIGHT OF THE PRESSER FOOT - SINGER MODEL 466

MANY SINGER VINTAGE MODELS USE THIS METHOD.
Height setting is 7.366 to 7.62mm or .290 to .300 inch
Check the presser foot height. Reset the presser foot height. Align the presser foot. Using common coins to check/set height. Using a feeler gauge to check/set height.

Well lucky for me as a Canadian liveing on the boarder of USA i have many American pennies , and Canada doesn't use pennies anymore....for those who are not aware ...

Happy for you!. For my Canadian viewers, a quick visit to www.mint.ca revealed that four 25-cent coins plus one 10-cent coin have a thickness of 7.54 mm which is right in the middle of the height range for this presser foot. That is using the coins minted from the year 2000 to the present. There may be other combinations of coins that work of course.

Once again, Andy to the rescue! I found a machine I hadn’t thoroughly tested yet and the presser foot was a bit low for me. The previous owner was a long-time seamstress who did a lot of sewing and alterations for high school cheerleaders among many others. I assume she lowered it for those fabric types. Anyway, this was the perfect solution for my Singer Stylist Model 418 named Frenchie! Thinking of you, know that you are missed -and recommended often. 💜🙏🏻💜 Jonee

I got a 5/16" piece of flat steel, filed it straight along one edge. I can line the edge of the presser foot up with the edge of the piece of steel with the piece of steel lined up with the slot for the feed dogs. Very quick and easy way to set the presser foot height to the highest limit. 7.62mm equals .3125" equals 5/16". Thanks Andy!

Very helpful, if one does not have access to a set of gage blocks. As a retired machinist, I have a set of gage blocks, also known as Jo blocks. Do not buy gage blocks because the coin trick is cheaper.

Thank you. Not all Singers have the same height setting; some are higher and some are lower. If you know the model number or the serial number of your machine I can try to find the factory setting for your presser foot. Also, if the pennies are tight your machine may be set at the middle or lower end of the "range" of height. Take care.

The max height of the presser foot on model 301/301A is .295 inch or 7.493 mm That is right in the middle of the .290 to .300 inch of model 466. The process is the same but easier b/c the presser thumb screw is so nice to turn instead of a dial.
