I love living in Newport, but it is not for everyone. If you don’t mind lots of wet, moist, gloomy, chilly weather and love the ocean it’s wonderful. If you are not an ocean/water person, there is nothing to do. When the sun does come out it’s awesome. Nice video :0)

When I lived there I was no more then 3 or 4 block from Nye Beach. Use to live right down the hill from the library. Another place I lived was only couple blocks from the beach. My favorite memories is being off work at the care center in town, watching the Storms come in off the ocean with my cat keeping me warm.

Conde Balcom McCullough designed most of these bridges with the art deco theme. He worked for the Oregon dept of transportation between 1919 and 1937 . Yaquina was built in 1936. Love those bridges, they are ulitarian but also beautiful due to the art deco accents. I like the way you use the google earth to vive an overview /context to where we are.👍

Newport is such a beautiful place and you gave us a great tour. I've only been there once, and only to go to the Aquarium. Must go back. Don't know how delayed this is but if you come up 199 from the coast give a holler and maybe we can grab a cup of coffee or something.

Thanks for sharing what I called my home for 3 years in the 1990. Bring back a lot of memories. When I was able to walk a lot better I walked across the bridge. Even on nice day it can be really windy up on the bridge. You said the name of the bridge prefect. The Oregon coast aquarium is right south of the bridge. It was the former home of the whale free willy for about being released back into his home water just to die. It a nice place to call home but since I didn't drive hard to get around. No public transit back then but now they have a ok transit system before covid at least. I was able to run up that hill back then which I could not do today. There a area right west of agant beach call Nye beach right outside the city center of town . It a small beach with easy access to the beach, easy parking. There a few gift shops , couple places to eat (before covid). Sad part I have not been able to visit Newport in couple of years because of covid. Thanks for sharing.

My father built Willer's Motel. We lived in Agate Beach where my father had built 3 homes right above the Ocean. We had an annual Easter Egg hunt at the park by the bridge after church (Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Rodacowski). We went to school in Newport, but rode the bus all of the way to, i think, The Devil's Punch Bowl. Lots of memories. I do not ever remember being warm except in August. The wind was pretty constant and storms blew sea foam onto our west side windows. We were never worried, though. The moon on the water is something i will never forget. Haven't been back since 1995 because Georgia Pacific was still polluting it. It was a great place until they came. The smell got so bad and it burned your eyes. The ocean foam was a terrible color. There was often oil on the beach, but we were young and did not know that was what it was. My mom used to visit an artist who had a cabin on that huge rock wall on the way to the light house. They blew it up places on the mountain, we called it, frequently as there was a quarry there. It shook us 2 miles away! The roads were so narrow on that rock, with no railing! It was terrifying. I hated to go visit there. But the tide pools were rich with sea anemones at the base. We played there nearly every day, though a long way from our home. We hit the beach in wild storms! It felt so great, but cold. We got soaked. It was ALWAYS windy and cold except in August. We visited briefly in '95 and then drove through around 2015. Our place was ruined. Everything was black topped. The forests gone and cabins crammed all around our homes. It looked just awful. The beach was not passable as oily sand had blown into crusty mounds...that happened at times, but we were kids then and it did not bother us. The smell was so bad, still, that we decided to leave and not explore any further. Pretty sad, really. A lot of history there, and it was home to my father LONG before i was born, and us for 12 years. I had hoped to find people I had known, but then decided to just go. Both parents and my sibs are gone now. In '95 we saw some of my school friends, but not later. What and who we had known had been gone a long time. I do hope the smell is better. I was shocked that they were still allowed to pollute so badly. I was a whole lot older and laws, i thought had changed things. Thank you for the tour. I still miss it at times, but then remember the smell and cold winds. Puget Sound worked better for us. 😄

We go there a couple times a year. We avoid the peak Summer time due to the crowds but the off season can very nice. If Ann had her boat there is some great salmon fishing in the late Summer. Mostly bottom & rock fishing this time a year. though. Pretty easy in & out. All the Native American name can be difficult.The one you mentioned at about 6:30 as a pretty nice one is basically a parking lot. If you don't mind spending the $$$$ there is a really nice one with oceanfront views close by as well.

Nice weather compared to the deluge of rain being experienced on BC... Ray - didn't know you needed an annual pass to stay on BLM land or US Federal land. Where can you buy this pass and is it valid for each calendar year or other time period? Thanks, Jim from Winterpeg.
@LoveYourRV3 жыл бұрын
Most of BLM free dispersed camping land doesn't require it. Its more for National parks and National Monuments and other federal lands that have an entrance fee. Some places it gets you 1/2 price camping. www.nps.gov/planyourvisit/passes.htm America the Beautiful - The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass Series A pass is your ticket to more than 2,000 federal recreation sites. Each pass covers entrance fees at national parks and national wildlife refuges as well as standard amenity fees (day use fees) at national forests and grasslands, and at lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A pass covers entrance, standard amenity fees and day use fees for a driver and all passengers in a personal vehicle at per vehicle fee areas (or up to four adults at sites that charge per person). Children age 15 or under are admitted free.

@@danskdna8550 The BC storm was an extremely bad 100-year type storm, it cut off all highways east of greater Vancouver a city of about 2.5 million people, several other cities had severe flooding. It will take many months to recover. bc.ctvnews.ca/livestock-death-toll-from-b-c-flooding-628-000-poultry-12-000-hogs-420-cows-1.5691405 "With recovery efforts underway in flood-stricken parts of British Columbia, officials are getting an idea of the massive impact the extreme weather has had on the province's livestock. In an update Thursday, Agriculture Minister Lana Popham said more than 640,000 animals are known to have died. That total includes 628,000 poultry, 12,000 hogs and 420 dairy cows. Additionally, 110 beehives were destroyed. There are still more than 800 farms under evacuation, so officials believe the death toll will likely change as residents and operators return."

Do you have any go to Washington parks? Or boondocking spots in Washington state? We are currently trying to get our summer spots reserved and planned out. It has become pretty challenging this year even more than last year with all the faketime RVrs taking up all the spots in advance then never showering up. Screwing us. Let us know. We would really appreciate it.
@LoveYourRV3 жыл бұрын
Not really, we barely spend any time in Washington State, just pass through on the way south in the fall and back to BC in the spring. Dosewalips is pretty nice on the Hood Canal and Cape Disappointment on the coast at the mouth of the Columbia River. Those are the only two we have stayed at. We generally overnight at some casinos and Walmart to save money as we are just spending the night between days on the road.

Available for: US citizens or permanent residents age 62 or over. Applicants must provide documentation of age and residency or citizenship. I don't mind, its a small price to pay for being able to visit all the awesome parks and saves a lot versus paying day fees.
