JFWIW, anybody with any knowledge could tell with one glance that Sam was faking. Although it is possible to enlist as a private first class (his rank insignia) you have to have a year of college or have recruited two other people to do it. He obviously had neither to his credit. I hope Rebecca kissed Woody.

YOU CAN SEE what the ambition was with Rebecca, Sam was this suave charismatic bravado sex machine, who could get any woman he wanted more or less, but Rebecca was headstrong and business like, she was meant to be the polar opposite and how he would be challenged. It is kind of a monkey flip of diane, it was not so much a battle how she was brainy etc. BUT They seemed to drop the ball at some point, and instead of the Cat-And-Mouse of pursuit, he just became gradually more and more creepy when he had no need to be, he lost alot of the charm and became basically a slimeball. THE Robin Colchort character fixed some of this, it gave the natural rivalry of love triangle that fixed a lot of the problems with the character-relationship and he was fantastic, but it still damaged Sam's character a bit overall. The last season or so again fixed it a bit, but there were just alot of episodes that really dragged this charismatic character down .

i think the oldest age to register in the us army these days is 42[raised from 35] although even at that it's probably seen as much too old by recruiters and is more a guideline. You are right he was too old here as he's in his 40s here. I am thinking that in most countries that past your late 20s your chances of getting into the marines/army/police or any field where physical fitness and vigor is required then your chances of making it is significantly diminished for the average person.

I've seen it go from 6 weeks to 9. You know why? Because modern kids are less fit and more fat. Back when that show was done basic was only about 6 weeks. Anyway, if you're a combat arm and show up at AIT that's when the fun starts.
