Note with Jack, you can just backdash 90% of his pressure, especially after d34. His backdash is big enough to make most of his lows whiff, including the hellsweep from right flamingo in most situations.

I was using Hwoarang in the lab earlier after watching a guide video, his "manual" flamingo is interesting. Yesterday I set a CPU Feng to do d/f+4,3 and a d/b+3 right after. I let the d/f+4,3 hit me putting me at a -7 disadvantage and I did "manual" right flamingo stance right after, it COMPLETELY evaded the d/b+3 and I could launch punish it with RFS U/F+3. It's more of a "hard read" kind of thing but still interesting. It seems like something SO obvious in Hwoarang's arsenal but people talk SOOOO much about how bad Feng as a match up for Hwo, so it's easy to miss out on things like this when you have that mindset. That realization made me eager to challenge people who say, "this is a bad match up", "this character is weak at this", "this character can't do that", "you're suppose to play this character this way", "low tier" etc...etc...
@friendlykoala Жыл бұрын
True, manual flamingo is essentially the same as Steve's right and left dodges... Many people tend to forget about those alternative ways to move, probably because it doesn't sound like "solid play"... There are many ways to create a matchup floodgate, and all it takes to create a new one is to test your movelist against the other one lol
@Dr.Happy11 Жыл бұрын
You're in many ways correct, Hwo most definitely has the tools, though some are overshadowed/obscure. To be honest, up to a certain level most Hwos forget slightly evasive moves/stances or even sidestepping exists, simply because of b1. Same principle with not necessarily pressing after every flamingo entry, or finishing strings, or doing the "combo followup" after launchers, etc. Since that kind of simple shit works up to a point, and then stops working suddenly, you'll hear how "unviable he's at high level" and similar scheiße.

Godlike vid amigo, you the best 🐨 Online Hwos are a different breed as you clearly showcased, but I find the "transitioning Hwo" the toughest kind, as they still mix scrubby shit with high level tech. Hwoarang is a much better char than advertised by his mains, and apart from chars like Jin or Feng -who invalidate like 85% of the cast anyways-, he's well-equipped to deal with virtually any situation. Of course, that would require a double-digit amount of braincells, in contrast to "mixing" d3,4 with random mid launchers and armoured homings, innit.
@friendlykoala Жыл бұрын
Thanks ! Yeah, the transitionning ones kinda force you to download each one individually instead of summarizing them to an archetype. Honestly I wouldn't be able to say much aside from "observe and adapt" lol

0:59 if hwo is doing rff3 you can option select by doing a quick ssr. It will step the rff3,4. If you see them flinch after the blocked rff3 it means they could be doing rff3,4 or the rff3,4 cancel (both go into rfs). You can react to this during your ssr and do a fast move (e.g your 10f punish or more safely a down jab) to interupt any moves from rfs. This is very hard to do in game because it requires you to react and punish in a very small window (especially if they do rfs f4) but it is possible.

Love this 🫶🏾! Gonna attempt to make muscle memory with baiting flowchart/whiff punishment pressy Hwos. Do you have a cheese lab on how to beat Paul video up (or thought about/considered)? As a King and Kazumi player, i hâte his bullshit evasion moves, forced crouches, and the bs invisible, Omni-reach df2 he has
@friendlykoala Жыл бұрын
Honestly I don't think there would be material for a cheese lab on Paul, because it's mostly about guessing, low/mid or mash/not mash 😅 I don't really know about your level, but King at least is good against Paul (have no clue how to beat him with Kazumi, aside from overwhelming him with cheese). He has the tools to punish Paul's pushback moves, also df2 tracks quite well so there must be some setups to clip Paul's f1+4.

I'm one of the "I ain't dealing with this shit" type of player, so I usually just do zoning and quick (preferably long-ranged) mid checks to keepout the pressure, while also sidestepping ff4's and wr's. But, good hwos always know how to approach and apply 50/50s effectively which is pretty scary to me, they're basically my kryptonites because I hate guessing so much.

Let's see here. -I haven't seen an online Hwoarang in a very long time. And I can't remember the last time I had trouble with one due to the fact that one of my acquaintaces I commonly played online was a Hwoarang main. -Everything said about the "average online" Hwoarang is very true here. I have gotten particularly frazzled when I will sidestep one part of a string just to get hit by the next. Though, that is in part because I am ABSOLUTELY a greedy punisher. 9/10 times I'm trying to put this EWGF into your noggin. -They're going to make ub34 (or whatever the mid high natural combo launcher command is) into 15 frames in Tekken 8. My spidey sense is tingling. 😅 -Asuka is a hilarious character for punish parry reads, and I am actually very glad to see her showcased for said parries here and my excitement has been reignited for her in T8 (going to go watch that trailer again after this 😅) -Part 2 of this video should be telling how to keep a grip on your controller when playing a Hwoarang whom's brain is active. It's one of those times in Tekken where it feels like what is SUPPOSED to work as a game mechanic is being actively overwritten by your opponent - Fantastic video. I didn't even intend to watch the whole thing, but I was both entertained and educated. Seeing your videos makes me want to play against you. I'm not sure what platform you play on, but I do hope to come across you sooner than later. I could probably use some "cheese until you figure it out" training. 😂 Wanted to make sure I put as much effort in my comment as was put into this video. Anyway, I hope it's going swell for you. Looking forward to the next one.
@friendlykoala Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the detailed feedback! Honestly ub33 becoming 15f sounds like a deserved buff, while most Hwoarangs will keep using only WS44 and WS3 for punishment anyway 😆 Glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for watching it entirely! 7:27 this is why i think ssr into instant duck is the actual best option select, it can avoid the dangerous mids and you still have time to block the sweep.
@friendlykoala Жыл бұрын
Smart option, but I don't think it's realistic for most of us to precisely know when to sidestep the RFS due to Hwoarang being at at least +7 in most cases we see. Thanks for the info tho, definitely gonna help the more advanced players 😀

Nice! I'll be honest, my execution is a shadow of what it used to be, my thumb gets sore really fast when doing complex inputs... So I'm considering learning stick to bypass the issue. Good luck with your practice, the CHdf2, PEWGF is hard, but definitely worth the effort!

Either sidestep or if you're a Negan player or in Rage a simple Rage Art / power crush at the right time will do it I'd normally F1+2 if i see him in flamingo or after d34 Of course you need to get some info on your opponent before committing Edit: also 18:10 no way that's a punish right ?

No, it's simply a neutral guard cheese setup. Like Steve's b12 into PABdf2, or Jin's f4 into ZEN1+2 😆
