Best comments I've seen on here LMAO! Only issue with "Poundcake" is Cheesecake already weighs a pound. Since Pound (currency) is a British thing, and so is Stone (Unit of weight) Stonecake? I mean a 14lb version of this thing would probably be a serious threat to everyone's life, but it doesn't need to LITERALLY weigh 1 Stone lol

These videos are awesome. For not having a very large audience, you keep up with uploads on a regular basis for the style of content really well, and the balance between technical explanations and fighting action is perfect. I really hope to see you gain some traction and popularity on KZbin, because this is epic. Its really a testament to Cheesecake that it could be basically ripped into pieces, and still have drive, even if the next hit knocked his battery out. I love seeing how he has developed over time, and even built rivalries and specific modifications for different bots. I really love these videos, they bring a smile to my face, and some of the fights are really close. Watching cheesecake essentially explode and carry on fighting had me shocked. Even with a wheel down, his drive seems excellent and you did exceedingly well in maintaining controlled movements.

I really like the Cake Slice, the idea I had that you may consider is that the Cake Slice can be reversible so it can be either on the bottom for your original intention but also reversed and then flipped and equipped on the top to turn into a Cheese Helmet, if you had two of them, one on the top(most likely with a spacer equipped), one on the bottom, you could really protect your motor from the bigger undercutters for a longer duration. Just a thought. Let me know what you think!
@alexsalchemy Жыл бұрын
If I'm understanding you correctly, I think that is something I wanted to try! I'll need to redesign the chassis to find some spare weight, but having one Cake Slice on each side (top and bottom) would basically create a big shield with a weapon sticking out of it. Come at me, bros!
@Katvanished Жыл бұрын
I have to agree- I think if you put a heavier "armor shield" over the front like that, it'll be much more durable from the front@@alexsalchemy it seems to me if you were to sacrifice armor in other areas for a solid defense on front, if you could keep your front facing the enemy, you could mount heavier armor in comparison to your opponents-
@pauldoe3201 Жыл бұрын
I think he also meant that you could put the cake slice on the top as top armour? for robots like temper I’m guessing. And then also two could be a option if you got inverted I guess.
@midorithefestivegardevoir672711 ай бұрын
@@alexsalchemy It would also help with keeping the front of your bot on the floor during exchanges since you'd be removing weight from the back and adding it to the front. Since the center of gravity moves forward towards the weapon it would become more stable but you'd also have to worry about facing attacks head-on since there'd be less armor anywhere else. At least, that's what I think applying what I already know from building crappy vehicles on Roblox building games; I know nothing about actual robots.

These videos are so much fun! Thank you so much for making them. I didn't even know there were weight restricted robot wars but with all the CAD and 3D-printing these days it makes so much sense. I love competitions where designers are so free to realise their ideas! Two things I'd like to share 1: Shufflers are OP. Designers have shown to be able to create shuffle mechanisms almost equally capable to wheeled set-ups, this means the weight advantage shufflers enjoy is no longer offset by a lack of mobility and should be removed. 2: I think that through iterative improvement (the best kind of improvement) you've arrived at a brilliant design for Cheesecake. Maybe there are some improvements possible design wise, but the law of diminishing returns applies. That's why I think the biggest gains in terms of combat effectiveness available to you right now come from increasing the controllability of Cheesecake. You are experienced at controlling her but still her movements looks skittish and hard to control. Maybe you could increase the smoothness with which the motors react to your inputs so you can more precisely control her movement and weapon. I literally learned about this entire sport yesterday so please take my word with a ton of salt, and to anyone reading my ramblings this far: Thanks!

Im surprised you chose countersunk CF, does it not cause structural weakness in the carbon fiber? I have had issues with it in my beetleweight for this reason
@alexsalchemy Жыл бұрын
Yeah, you can see that in my final fight, and in my subsequent teardown video. The next version will still use countersunk screws to be safe from undercutters, but I've moved the screw holes farther inward to leave more CF material between the holes and the perimeter of the CF plates. If that don't work... well then, I'll do something else.

I think it's more detrimental at higher weight classes, but yeah you can design around it if you inset them or countersink near areas that would not interrupt longer strands.

I'm not sure how I feel about shufflers getting a 50% weight bonus. Maybe a smaller bonus is applicable(15? 25?), but at 50% those hits don't seem balanced even at the trade off of a more vulnerable drive train. Didn't Battlebots remove the weight bonus for shufflers for this reason?

The SPARC rules I showed on screen haven't been updated since 2019, and apparently they are now being reviewed for possible changes. If there now are 2 people with fast shufflers, will the rules be changed? If the increase in weight is supposed to be accompanied by a lack in mobility it feels a bit cheaty that they are now able to move so fast while still being bigger. I mean, probs to the guys who figured out to work around the shuffler issues, but for the competition as a whole it might be better to move these heavy shuffler bots to a new category. Otherwise all other manufacturers will have to switch to 1.5lb shufflers too.

It's a difficult question. On the one hand, I don't want the rules to change just because a few people are "winning too much" or because one strategy just so happens to be working at the moment. On the other hand, shufflers have their own special rules in the first place because... well, they weren't really viable in the past without that weight bonus, so I could see a rule change as just being a course correction to this already special circumstance.
