man seeing Cheesecake rip off Mutiple wedges is crazy. I think it shows just how much energy was being stolen from the weapon motor issue referenced at 0:40
@alexsalchemy10 ай бұрын
Yeah I agree! It's amazing how much energy you lose to seemingly small inefficiencies. I didn't realize that air resistance played such a big role for a long time.
@willrummell367010 ай бұрын
@@alexsalchemy Did you optimize cheesecake's weapon's cross section for minimizing air resistance? I imagine the cross section could look like some sort of tear drop shape that changes thickness further from the center of the weapon/motor shaft.
@alexsalchemy10 ай бұрын
@@willrummell3670 - I did not optimize the thickness in that way because it would be hella expensive. But most swords do exactly what you're describing. Given the restriction of having uniform thickness, ideally my weapon would be a flat solid disk with a single tooth sticking out to best avoid churning up the air, but I don't have that much spare weight. I could make such a weapon smaller in diameter to save weight, but I do want some good reach, so my teardrop shape is a bit of a compromise: it has pretty good reach, without churning up the air too much.
@willrummell367010 ай бұрын
@@alexsalchemy appreciate the response- regarding the swords I suppose that makes sense. I never thought of why they tapered towards the tip other than keeping it light. And you’re defo right on keeping it uniform thickness. Keeping the cost down for a part that might need to be replaced every fight should take precedent. Best of luck with the next tourney- I definitely felt this one should have went your way, but I’ve loved keeping up with the journey so far.

This typically means the person coming from losers side has to beat the person from winners side twice to win the tournament as you are only eliminated from the tournament once you have lose twice.

I feel like you won that last fight. My only advice would be to find a way to make cheesecake easier to drive, I realize the floor was getting thrashed at the end making it more difficult, but imo the inability to control the bots was everyone’s weakness. There’s got to be a way to make cheese more drive able, the rest is dialed in pretty damn well.

If you make the sweet tooth reach slightly further than the spinner you can stop it from hitting the wall. This might backfire though if the sweet tooth gets bent up it will stop the spinner from being able to reach the other bot

No way cheesecake didn't win that last fight! Like, pushbots on an arena like this with no hazards can only win by arbitrary measures, what does a pin actually accomplish? It feels so cheap that they can put all their weight into armor and then all they need to do is ram the other bot into the wall a few times... It's like somebody could win a boxing match because they were able to "hug"/grapple the opponent to stop him from hitting you.

What weapon and drive motors do you use? And what ESC’s do you run with them? I have been having issues with ESC’s dying after one large impact.
@alexsalchemy2 ай бұрын
Currently, my weapon motor is a FlashHobby 2822 1800KV, and my drive motors are Repeat Robotics "Repeat Drive Brushed Mk2". I'm still using the Fingertech Tiny ESCs for my drive motors, and I'm using a Cyclone 35A brushless ESC for my weapon motor. It's surprising how high the current can spike when your weapon hits something or even starts up. My weapon motor draws about 8 amps at full spin, but it spikes above 20 when starting from a dead stop.
@noahross8592 ай бұрын
@alexsalchemy Thank you, ill look into these. How do you go about testing this while your motor is running? Do you just measure the current in series when the motor is running? Or what is the best way to test what the max and min specifications of your motor and esc are running at?

Well, the modeling itself wasn't too hard (I'm very familiar with CAD, specifically Onshape), it was the design that took a while to create: how the frame is constructed, how the drive motors are held, etc. That was at least a couple months' work before I made the very first prototype.

As someone from the outside looking in, this tournament ended in such a bullshit fashion. Why is there redemption from a loser's bracket when it's not also double for an undefeated bot going into the final match?
