While Brittany Murphy is often remembered for her roles in Clueless and 8 Mile, there's a different film that stands out to me. So I'm spreading the word about a Murphy-led slasher where the killer flips the usual formula on its head, and instead of going after the horny and debaucherous, is targeting virgins. So join us today on Real Slashers, as we take a look at Cherry Falls.
WATCH OR OWN THE FILM HERE: bit.ly/3MzWmLo
Written, Narrated and Edited by Tyler Nichols
Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols
Executive Producer by Berge Garabedian
Music Provided by KZbin Studio
SERIES SYNOPSIS: Ahhh the 80's. A simpler time where the blood ran red, the tits swung freely, and the weed was copiously smoked. A time where rampant killers were simply excuses for excessive sex and over the top murder. Yes, we're looking at an era where the slasher movie ran wild over cinemas everywhere. Today, we're looking at "Real Slashers."

I loved this movie! I agree it stood out from the other teen slasher films of the era, and it should've been a bigger hit.

Cherry Falls was definitely a cut above other slashers at the time. It was not only a horror film, but also complex in the killer's identity and motive. It felt like a giallo plot at times. Unfortunately, the shadow of the Colombine murders was causing studios to pull back on their teen horror films and like "My Bloody Valentine" (1981), Cherry Falls seemed to feel the biggest wrath of the censors.

I love this movie. I remember having it recorded off of USA that night. It was pretty chopped up but when they released it on VHS a few months later it was a little more gory. Not by much though. I wish they had released it in theaters and gave it more care. Maybe we would have gotten the unrated version or a sequel. It at least would have had a bigger audience.

This is probably one of the last movies of Michael Biehn that I truly enjoyed. He was very underrated, he did some really excellent movies during the 80s and 90s. What happened to him? He was wasted in the Mandalorian sadly

I have the Scream factory remaster, and I do love it, such a shame it was so neutered and cut up, it could have been a masterpiece slasher classic instead of just a good film that wasn't allowed to reach its potential in the genre. AND most upsetting, none of the cut footage was saved so no Director's cut. Which is so face palming.

8:16 - I dont think he waited a specific time. He just integrated himself first as a teacher to get closer to the students before planning the killings. They say the rape happened 27 years prior, which is likely Marliston's age.

Michael Biehn’s character actually had a back story and he to deliver an emotional performance. I’d say this was one of his better performances after the great ones he delivered for the 3 James Cameron movies he was in.

Cherry Falls is so damn good. I was insanely excited for this premiere, USA did a week premiering horror movies, I believe Terror Tract was also part of the week but Cherry Falls was easily the highlight and is one of the better horror movies I've seen. Great cast, especially Michael. There are some weird moments that are almost incestuous with him and Murphy, which I don't love. Reminds me of the dad in Halloween 6.

It's funny how EVERYONE in pop culture: critics and fans, and reviewers alike, COMPLETELY misconstrued the "Final girl is the Virgin." Or "Only virgins survive in slasher horror movies." That's was never the original formula. John Carpenter himself said, that wasn't the case in Halloween. Annie, Bob, and Linda weren't killed because they were smokin dope and/or having sex. It was because they weren't paying attention to their surroundings. That's it. It was never intended to be, "only the good girl or virgin lives because they're not being naughty." 😂 No, Laurie in Halloween wasn't preoccupied by being horny or a ditsy Imbecile. And technically she did hit a joint with Annie earlier in the movie. So the "doing drugs in a slasher movie is a no no" was completely debunked there. I like how some clowns try to point out that "Laurie was immune to death because when she smoked, she coughed," implying that, "she wasn't an avid smoker."🙄 She still hit the joint. So, the virgins and non-drug users trope was all because people assumed the wrong thing and jumped to conclusions. Which is actually hilarious when you know the film marker's actual intensions.🤣🤣🤣

I fuckin love this movie! In a sea of cheap whodunnit slashers in the wake of Scream, this would be my favorite, far above I Know What You Did Last Summer even. It's cheap by its TV Budget, but it stands up well with a good cast and the twist on virgins was creative as can be. Plus, I always loved Brittany Murphy in almost everything she did. She was beautiful, sweet, hilarious and is sorely missed. No disrespect to her memory, but as a 17 year old kid when this came out, seeing a gothic Brittany trying to ditch that dreaded V card? C'mon man....hell yeah I watched this a lot lmao
