This is the best video on the subject of the Dutch Defense! And believe me, I have watched quite a few so far!

Many thanks for covering this. I have become bored to tears with QGD and other positional response to 1.d4. I'll use your advice and start learning the Dutch Defence. I've found it hairy in past, but hopefully I'll push past that and starting enjoying facing 1.d4 again!

You got it Adrian! Glad you enjoyed it, ya the Dutch Defense is a good option - the Old Benoni Defense and Black Knights' Tango are also good if you're trying to mix things up and go for it. Here are my videos for those openings just in case you are interested: Old Benoni Defense - kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWWxqqZui619qas Black Knights' Tango - kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZOmf2t4rMSJnJY

I get into trouble when white plays Qb3 with pressure against the king and queen rook. Also the square e5 is a problem for black as white can get a very strong grip on it - especially if he has a knight on d3 and f3. What I see here appears to avoid this so it may be worth another go.

@@wendychan6679 I tried the Dutch again after my comment but I still came horribly unstuck. QGD/Slav and the triangle pawn structure of E6 D5 C6 is much easier to work with.

Nice video, just like your video on the birdman's opening. ^^ I play the Dutch a lot too and I'm sure you'll agree that the main problem with the g6 version, is white trying to trade off your fianchettoed king bishop.

I haven't played the Dutch in a very long time, except as White. The last several times it was played against me, I always went

P.s. ....straight to a Staunton's Gambit. Dutch Formations always were solid, but slow. If I don't get it, I gambit.

Thank you very much for this video. What is the best dutch in your opinion?
@TheChessGiant2 жыл бұрын
You got it! And oof that's a tough question! I would probably say that the Leningrad and Stonewall are the top two, with the classical being the third best. However, that is just my opinion on it. Some players out there would highly disagree!

Whenever I play this, I’m almost always met with 2 Bf4., not 2 Nf3 or 2 g3.

GM Ruddell, When white plays e4 as the opening move, black has many aggressive Sicilian responses. But when white plays d4 as the opening move, black's responses (Kings Indian, Nimzo Indian, even mirror d5) seem more passive. What in your opinion is black's most aggressive response to d4? Thank you!
@TheChessGiant3 жыл бұрын
Hey John! Sadly... I am not a GM haha... only an expert! But I appreciate the compliment! I would say the Old Benoni Defense. I love this system for black and many d4 players aren't prepared for it, in addition to the fact that Old Benoni positions are very different than what d4 players are used to! I'll drop the link below. Let me know what you think! kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWWxqqZui619qas

Is the Hillbilly against the Caro on your to-do list? I’m just researching it - seems Magnus and Simon W have played it. 1. e4 c6 2.Bc4!

I am just attempting to learn this system and I am finding that white playing his king-side knight to g5 quite annoying.
@TheChessGiant Жыл бұрын
Definetely something to watch for. h6 is an easy way to kick that knight out but you also need to be aware of the short side check as well as h4 in some cases probably (white just giving up a piece but blasting open h-file.) Have you plugged your games into Stockfish to see how it responds to the situational positions?

Hey Chess Giant, why don't you make a video on Dutch Stonewall? I personally think it is the best in the Dutch family. But I would like if you could cover the move order also in it. For example, many people are just concentrating on b3 and fianchetoing the white Bishop on g2, but it's really crucial to know how to play the Dutch stonewall with 1..e6 and then 2..f4. From there, white could opt for London or Bb5 and those are the critical lines in the stonewall Dutch.
@TheChessGiant3 жыл бұрын
Hey Edin! I am actually planning on making a 3 part series covering the Classical Dutch, Leningrad Dutch, and Stonewall Dutch. And totally agree that learning to play the Dutch Stonewall is essential. Hopefully I can get this series out sooner rather than later!
