I just blundered this endgame with the same stalemate you showed, having the queen too close. If only I’d seen this sooner! Great instructive video, thank you.

That's really something , loved your simple Jab method . I think you were inspired by lot of Queen vs Rook in the World Cup 23.

This is a very good intro to this ending, but I believe the algorithm presented is incomplete. In particular, black does not have to voluntarily give up the third rank defense as presented. There is a whole additional algorithm that is necessary.

5:39 black king should take closest space to queen whenever it can, h4 in this situation. It wouldn't allow white to take Third Rank. Only way to take it, is when rook is one line from queen and it means whenever king take the same line as queen rook takes the queen and we have draw. 5:50 is a mistake again - rook shouldn't leave Third Rank if it has space to move on it - king cannot control 4 squares on third rank. The method is only good when opponent makes mistakes.

Just got this endgame for the first time in a longer game. Had no idea what I was looking at and was not even totally sure that it was winning. Hung stalemate but the guy didn't see it. Now I have some ideas what's going on for next time.

I wish you would have demonstrated the method from a fairly disadvantageous starting position and go through the entire process from start to end. What you present is too disjointed. You say, "Don't get the queen too close" but in many of your examples the queen *does* get close. I remember learning the checkmate with a bishop and knight as a very methodical method. I wish there was something similarly presented for the queen vs rook.
