You know, Alexandra, besides your excellent play and commentary, one thing I love about you is your voice. Your rapid-fire running off the opening moves has an almost singing, musical quality that I keep playing it over and over. Granted I'm no great shakes as a player yet and I have a hard time following all those opening moves, but I'm absorbing all I can from you and the other GMs on KZbin, I appreciate you going through and explaining everything, so hopefully some of your magic will rub off on me. (Btw, I'll second everyone else here, you are also really gorgeous; your hubby's a lucky guy. :-) )

I like this relaxing piano music you use on these videos more than that loud guitar on the later ones :). Thank You Very Much for some GREAT chess instruction.

You don't need to memorize the openings, best to simply know chess opening principles. The goal of the chess opening is to bring you to a playable middle game. The middle game is where games are won or lost. Best to train in tactics and endgames. Good luck!

@XxPhotoShopDudeXx Chess Professionals don't look at the coordinate "hints" written on the board "a,b,c,1,2,3 since they know them by heart. If the board is turned "upside-down" that has no influence on the game, it's still perfectly legal. Any player would know that the first move is 1.e4 even if the board says the pawn went to d5. But you are right, for beginners, it's easier to turn the board the right side so they have an easier time writing down the moves.

To improve a lot at chess you need study, discipline, passion, practice, objectivity in self-evaluation, self confidence, decisiveness, and good physical form. Those qualities are helpful to be successful in practically anything in life. If you study chess a lot, you will develop problem solving skills, a logical mind, good calculation skills, strong memory. Good luck!

Grandmaster Mazim Dlugy was a student of his highness Dvoretsky. May I ask who was your trainer Grandmaster Kosteniuk?

@LNAdrien I've had and have several trainers, with GM's Alexey Korotylev and Yuri Razuvaev being the first 2 that helped me a great deal.

@XxPhotoShopDudeXx Great you love chess! Learning the coordinates of the chess board which has 64 squares 8x8 and starts bottom left for white at a1 and end top right at h8 is not too hard, should not take you more than a few minutes if you put your mind to it. Good luck!
