I always felt static core exercises and back exercises really help with cycling (like holding aero position or able to handle descents)

IMHO gym is to complicated way to get the shape. Just push ups and pull ups until you get 50+ push ups and 20+ pull ups. After that look at your nutrition, do not eat too much, try to slowly loose weight, also go cycling as much as possible. As a result you get the best your natural shape (not juiced, if you understand). And if you feel bad in aero posiniton, check the bike fit, maybe set longer/shorter stem.
