This is right up there with the #41 from Live in Chicago 12.19.98 at the United Center in terms of my favorite versions of the song ever. Victor Wooten is such a magician. He makes #41 my favorite DMB song when he plays on it. Glad I stumbled on this.

I come back to this video a dozen times a year. This performance should have a hundred million views. Incredible musicianship and feeling by one of the best bands on the planet Earth jamming with arguably the greatest bass player on Earth. Victor Wooten has it all - chops with feeling. Couple that soloing with DMB and you've got musical nirvana. Mind-blowing.

I sat here for 18 minutes with a big grin on my face! That was so cool too see: thanks CCPot! There is so much history coming together on this video; it's been what, like since 1998 when Victor used to guest with DMB. There's something about Victor Wooten, the way he can improv on that bass, that inspires me whenever I hear him play. Victor Wooten IS Music!

I've never heard Vic described that way, but I totally agree. The guy is a once in ten lifetimes talent. He inspired me to learn the language of music.
@julianloef2028 жыл бұрын
I call him that because I have been playing guitar my whole life. I studied the suites from Bach and within music composition and uniqueness of sound victor wooten is really just as innovative as Bach to me. ALthough I play guitar I learned a lot from victor wooten his perspective on music and he inspires me a lot in my play.

“A tribute to the Flecktones!”…one of the best parts of this song is that it’s actually a bit of a tribute and “playoff” to Victor’s brother Future Man…if you know Bela Fleck and Flecktones (you should check them out), Future Man plays the Drumitar and Carter (seems to me) to be emulating the parts of the Flecktone songs referenced between Victor Wooten and Jeff Coffin (both Flecktones)…it’s essentially Carter emulating the Drumitar and it is absolutely spectacular musicianship on so many levels! Beautiful and Amazing!!! Thank you DMB!!! I love the thought that Bela and Future Man are watching this and laughing at this with joy…I do wonder if this is why Carter has that sly smile between him and Victor.
@ironhorsemma607810 жыл бұрын
My fave part starts at about the 10:30 mark, when Dave figures Vic's through with his solo and starts singing again - but Vic starts goading Carter into a bass vs. drums battle (and you can see Carter turn to Vic with a big smile when he starts it,) - and Dave just kinda throws up his hands like "OK guys, have at it."

I love VC's raw kind of organic quality. In the beginning he adds some accents and stops making a sound when he will not be adding anything. The music is already full and complete. When he has thoportunity to sinc with the sax and violin and can enrich the sound better... heralds into the groove and can make the music better with whatatarys flowing through him. Violins and sax see it happen and fade right out.. Dave enriches sound wirh his voice enquiring VW and when VC since qith drummer it looks like Dave turns to sax player jesturing thata shits about to get real excitedly after cutting his vocals short. Top Pros' dealing with a raw emotion ensured prodigy. Thing of.frigging beauty.

It's called phrasing a song within a song, as long as you keep the pocket for the main theme, you can depart into another song within the framework of the original, even change the time signature, if you keep the pocket and keep key on the main theme enough to let every one else know you are in synch....
