Wow. It was Chet that said when I don’t practice for a day I know it. If I don’t practice for two days you know it. Three days everybody knows it. There’s a lot of truth in that.

To portray the fragility and earnestness of this tune without the lyrics to help it along shows why Chet was one of the greatest of all time. Beautiful, perfect song by Joni, taken even deeper by a true master.

Chet was such a decent human being; it brings a tear to my eyes every time I see him. Didn’t imitate or mock anything; no jokes involving race, no bigotry or racism or hate in his heart. A true loss and sorely missed…

What's the metronomic sound I'm hearing on every quarter beat? It's not like he needs one (a metronome) especially considering the rubato nature of the tune. I don't think he's making the sound on the guitar, but if it's an audience member clapping I'd be so freaking mad.

late comment, but i believe it’s the sound of him tapping his heel against the ground. you can see at the beginning of the video that as he begins tapping his foot, the metronome sound starts.

This is a wonderful awesome arrangement. But I think there's a 61% chance I heard Chet blow a clam at 2:00. Not totally sure and it's not exactly a credible idea because I've never heard him make the slightest goof before. He doesn't repeat that note in any of the other refrains. Purely out of curiosity, what do you guys thing? Am I on crystal meth?
@Ja-be5cy5 жыл бұрын
It sounds fine to me, but the smile on his face when he does that would prove your theory.
@Kan-o-tex4 жыл бұрын
I don't think it was but if it was he turned it around and made it sound intentional. Like Tiny Moore said, you're never more than one fret away from a right note. I read somewhere, maybe in his excellent autobiography Country Gentleman, where Chet said that sometimes he'd throw in a mistake on purpose because he knew there were some people who came to his shows just to hear him make a mistake. If you want to see a very touching side of Chet, find the documentary that Lenny Breau's daughter did about her father and watch the part where she interviews Chet.
@Kan-o-tex4 жыл бұрын
@Doug Working I saw it either here or on Vimeo, but his daughter revised it and added some things and now you can rent or buy it here. www.lennybreau.com/video/ If you're a Lenny Breau fan, it's well worth your time. I thought it was very well done and there's a lot of priceless performance footage, including studio footage when Chet was producing Lenny's RCA records.
