A gen 6 454 from a medium duty truck has forged piston and crank, if you get a bigger bore and rise the compression you can get a great engine, CarCraft has an article on this

I would say NO on the forged pistons from gm. Our 02 2500 8.1 had all cast bottom end.

Love your videos . Very educational . Thanks for sharing. I wish someone would make marine build videos seems either not many people know how to do it or the ones that do dont like to share the knowledge. Pretty soon there won't be anymore marine mechanics or mechanics that know the difference between marine and auto.

Hey Richard, I purchased a bbc with claimed 780 hp, what would it have to have internally bore/stroke/cam is unknown, it has the iron heads, on a tunnel ram 660s carbs, I see roller rockers and stud girdle, im thinking it has to be bored out, thanks for your time

I have a 2000 3500 Chevy with the 454 that I use to tow all my stuff. The upside is that it was inexpensive to purchase and inexpensive to maintain. The downside is not fantastic power and poor mpg. The mpg is not really a concern however more power would be "real nice". How about a real world chassis test with a turbo on a factory truck? I bet there are lots of people out there that would love to see that. After all we have to haul our junk to the track somehow!

For what you do, the 01-412-8 would be an excellent camshaft! We'd recommend the K01-412-8 for a complete valvetrain refresh.

My 454 has a com cams Big Mother Thumper can I add boost? It's got a lot of valve overlap at 107 sep. I'm thinking it will just blow threw

Sweet thanks I could use some advice. I’m looking gen 6 454 with zz502 cam and clean up stock heads with springs. Also we want to run boost. With twin gt45s. Will it work. Also I like to go sniper nut money is short. So I’m thinking a turbo carb with MSD to run the coil pacs. Any advice. 800 to 1000 is our hp goal. Any advise.

Had different heads on so no stock. Gen 6 heads don't want much timing. Low 30s off boost

Theres a formula i can't remember (google ring gap for boost) but .30 with pump gas let us run 475hp nitrous on cast pistons in a BBChevy in two stages. A lot...

You multiply recommended (or tried and tested) clearance for specific usage by cylinder bore diameter. For a high power SBE turbo LS for example I like to go with around 0.0065" top / 0.007" second (give or take depending on expected boost, power output, usage, etc). That much clearance on say a 6.0 LS with a 4" bore gives you 0.026" top ring gap and 0.028" 2nd ring gap. If it's a milder build I'd go with less.
