This is the greatest car I have ever owned. After almost a year of ownership, I am never, nerver ever going back to gas! I charge at work for free and there are enough places around town that also charge for free. Couple that with $10,000 in money back from state and federal along with no scheduled maintenance for a long, long time and you have the almost perfect commuter car. This is a gamechanger for those with long commutes or anyone that is tired of giving thier hard earned money away..to pump gas. I have a level 2 charger at home but rarely ever use it...

You can do much better than that, I've gotten 286. . The biggest key is to smoothly control your energy driving in L. The longer you are in regen, the better, so coming to a painfully long stop is best. A quick accel to 5+ over the speed limit and a LONG slow deceleration, aiming to stop at the next intersection, nets the best technique and highest efficiency. Tires at 44 seem to be best but it depends on the tires your running, start at 51 and depressurize 3psi every 100 miles or so, down to about 28, to see what gets you get the best range.

One small correction, he stated that the Bolt comes with Navigation. It does not. It uses android auto, when you plug in your android auto compatible phone you then can see on the Bolts console the 3D Nav screen projected from your phone. Note that Chevy makes no claims to compatibility with specific phones. Nor do any service techs nor customer service reps have access to any lists that would publish compatible phones. My Huawei Mate 9 turned out to be incompatible, drove to the dealer and asked them to find out what phone I could purchase to make sure it was compatible and no one could find the answer even after calling upstream. Very frustrated that I had to take a crap shoot and guess at purchasing a Note 8 and thankfully it worked.

Above 35 degrees I use 350 watt electric heater hardwired to 12v battery.the aux plug is rated 20 amps about 220 watt heater use that also.extended range a lot in moderate weather about 8 k for heater use is to get comfy then switch to 220 watt heater about 3.8mi. per k in 20 degree weather.also I can sit at charge station and leave the 220 w heater since level 2 is about 7 k good luck.summer I cam stretch to about 310mi. Got 3 4 0 more than a couple of times.takes some practice.

solarchild1 Very good. I live on a 11 mile run at 8% to 10% grade. I get the same. I level 1 charge to 200 miles with hill top reserve off. I get 310 miles too regen as much as 55 miles per Kwhr. Be careful though not to charge over 250. I did and ended up with 379 miles. Had too find a steep hill I accelerated up to bring it down to 320 which I was not worried about hurting the battery. Now have 96,000 miles so I guess the battery is fine.

This car is growing on me. I like that it's a hatch. My main complaint is that it's a little small. Still, I might consider it in a couple years if I'm in the market for a new car.
@GreenJeep19986 жыл бұрын
Dan Sanger I just had the chance to sit in a couple a few days ago at the Chicago Auto Show and was impressed. I'm just shy of 5'11" and on the "fluffy" side of the scale (working my way down to "Husky", don't want to get any closer to "DAAAYYMN!!" than I already had been last summer). It was a bit tight for me to get into the car, but once I was, the fit was pretty decent, could stand to lose more from the middle, but I could fit in the car! For comparison, I also sat in a Fiat 500 Abarth (other than my left shoulder, the fit there was decent too, my left arm and shoulder had to go out the window), Second Gen Volt (couldn't even get into the first gen, my legs were pressed together and my left shoulder was jammed into the B-Pillar in this one), while the Second Gen Leaf was just as big of a joke as the First Gen for me as I kinda looked like Bob Parr/Mr Incredible in his little blue commuter car in both (I also couldn't move my feet in there and would likely need to drive barefooted). One thing that cracks me up about these little cars is that they kinda look like Angry Birds, I think it would be histerical if somebody got there hands on one of these, figured out how to remove the 93mph limiter, put on stickier tires and vanity plates that read either "NGRY BRD" or "NGRY BLT" then trolled people at drag strips or stop lights with it. I'd probably consider one, but also probably will have to wait until these little cars hit CarMax, as I'm not ready just yet to get another loan even though the one on my 3.6l Chrysler 200 sedan (which is also a fun troll car, similar 0-60 and 14's in the quarter stock) is set to be paid off in just a couple months. Plus that would give more time to drop some more pounds than the 55+ I'm already lighter.

That is not how the federal tax credit works. You don't get $7500 in cash in April. It is a tax credit that if you owe anything in taxes in April it will help offset the taxes you owe up to $7500. A lot of states incentives are the same. You don't get squat if you don't owe anything in taxes. I wish dealers would stop the lies that say the car cost less with the tax credit when it simply does not...

Are there any electric car haters out there? Looking through this thread I would say yes quite a few. As I read about why, most of it comes to cost - simple motor and a battery why should it cost 35K? Interesting question. I don't blame GM but looking at the Macro picture here - What would happen to all the car companies if they sold this car for 15K$ Let's say it cost 10K to make - would the companies be able to turn a profit? If not would they go out of business? What about the Oil Companies? Do you think they are lobbying congress to keep these cars off the road? What about Oil Drillers? And how do they pressure auto companies into keeping this market smallish? Is it through political and regulatory pressure? If others know more about these tactics please feel free to jump in - but It's pretty clear to me that these cars will not be allowed to be mass produced at cheaper prices even IF they are cheaper to build. And the big car interests, oil companies and engine suppliers are fighting like crazy for a piece of the action OR to limit the party to just a few fringe dedicated buyers. I wish it weren't so but that's how I see it. Time will change this but combustion engine cars have a 100 year head start on EV.

My last Chevy was a complete disaster. It was a Camaro that was purchased from new. It was an electrical nightmare. Within one month of ownership from new it had to go back for electrical shorts blowing fuses. It went thru four alternators. It went thru five radiators. It went thru three water pumps. At one point it had an electrical fire. At 80,000 miles it developed eight oil leaks. I will never own another Chevy. There are some of us who owe little or no tax. There's no withholding requirement for those with less than a thousand dollar tax burden. A credit is of no use for us. Are you guys really that dense? It is a "tax credit" - it works just like EIC or any other tax credit. If you don't owe anything, or the government ends up owing you some at the end of the year... then they pay you what they owe you, and in this case they would owe you whatever your normal offset is PLUS 7,500 bucks. That's it. If you owe them $1500, then you'll get $6000. If they owe you $500, then you'll get $8000. It's that simple. EDIT: No, it doesn't matter if you're filing single, married, or as a business / contractor. I've done all of those. It works the same. Only difference is if you're an LLC / Corp. Then you can get other benefits anyway.
@josephtornello52616 жыл бұрын
@@MandrakeDCR actually it is a non-refundable credit. If you owe 5k in taxes, you get 5k off. If you owe 7.5k, you get 7.5k off. EIC is a refundable tax credit, so if you have 1.5 tax credit, but only owe 500, then you get a 1k refund. If you owe no taxes the way to benefit is by leasing. The Bolt EV regardless of mode or the pedal or paddle you push or pull is always trying to maximize regeneration (even with the brake pedal). But you cannot regenerate equal or more energy than you put into the car (law of conservation of energy). Regeneration only works to regenerate some of the energy already spent. The only way to regenerate more would be to always drive down hill. In which you are converting potential energy from the height of the car into battery energy through regeneration. Unfortunately it's not possible to always drive downhill.

The battery issue that they identified were mostly recalled for precaution because there was a chance of early failure which weren't really actual "issues" at the time of recall.

Speed of charging is measured in kW, not in miles/hour... How many miles you get out of 1kWh usually depends on driving style, similar to a ICE cars.
@KTPurdy7 жыл бұрын
They talking about EPA miles, allowing people to understand the rate of charge without a calculator.
@anzew887 жыл бұрын
I agree and understand their point of view, but it's like selling bread in litres or gas in cubes. I never said I can fuel my diesel car at a rate of 50miles/min :/ In this case let's measure everything in bananas, would probably be more precise unit. ;)

I have thought about it but I'm very leery of Government Motor's. When I considered them General Motors I didn't mind them may have even liked them more than Ford. Now I would much rather have a Ford after Government Motors got the bail out. That is the whole thing that makes me think I can't carry a loan on one of these.

Reading the news this morning I came across an article on California on how they are improving infrastructure by increasing the number of charging stations for electric vehicles. Sounds great , right? Then I started thinking about a vacation we took one year. We drove from Detroit to Memphis Tennessee . According to Google maps this is supposed to take 11 hours and is 754 miles. According to the data on the Chevy bolt, the charge time is 9.3 hours at 220 volts and the cars range is 238 miles per charge. 754/ 238 = 3.16 , this means you would have to charge up twice during the trip after the initial charge up. So a trip that would normally take 11 hours by a car with an internal combustion engine would take 11 + 9 + 9 = 29 hours. 29 hours vs 11 hours. Aren't electric cars wonderful ? There as to be a better way. JMHO

That's at level 2. Level 3 is standard now. I road tripped from North Ohio to East of Atlanta and it only costed me 30 bucks and I only had to stop to charge at level 3s three times for only about an hour each to get out, use the restroom and eat, and I spent the night at a hotel with free level 2.

Jonathan Guérin it boils down to how much you drive. I had a first gen Volt, which only did 40 miles on a charge before the gas kicked in, but I still had $120/month in gas savings. This car is very inexpensive for people with long commutes.
@markofexcellence52097 жыл бұрын
It's kind of insulting that you'd say it's an advertisement when it very clearly isn't... How stupid do you think people are? Even if you were buying a car as a "normal" person, $30,000 is a great price. It is a well-equipped car. I am not a fan of electric cars but this one has enough range to be a commuter car without issue.

Nice car. However, considering how much simpler mechanically these cars are, it is inexplicable why they are so expensive. No, the cost of batteries *does not* explain it (just check the cost of replacement batteries). I think it's a ripoff enabled by taxpayer subsidies.
