A sketch introducing the segment dedicated to the 25th anniversary of SNL's "Weekend Update", broadcast September 26, 1999.
Chevy seems to instinctively loosen up (the character/himself) when Norm arrives. Chase has previously worked with Norm in "Dirty Work", directed by Bob Saget, released in 1998.
Dennis is all smiles. But before that, Dennis' joke was pretty good, pretty raunchy.

Yeah, by the 90's Chevy Chase had lost his touch. His talk show in the early 90's only made it six weeks on the air and he doesnt really have any big, successful movies after the 80's. My friends and I back then used to joke about him having been replaced by an evil automaton as we all enjoyed his 80's movies.

Dennis Miller was really great in Weekend Update. I loved Chase, but Miller outdid him regularly. Norm was and still is my favorite, though. His absurdist humor, his delivery, and his ability to bounce back after an out there joke bombed were the keys to his greatness.

The initial cast was bullet proof. Every cast member was perfectly capable of leading a feature comedy, and I think all of them did at some point. Aykroyd, Belushi, Chase, Curtain, Radner... The second golden era, imo, was the Hartman, Miller, Meyers, Carvey, McDonald era... That bleeds into the Adam Sandler, Chris Farley era.... There have been seasons where SNL had the best concentration of comedy talent out there. Not at present, but who knows what the future holds?
