Cindy, I know this is an older post, but thought you and others might find my experience useful. I too have cut the white and blue wire, and it worked perfectly for years. But, I put butt connectors on each end of the white and blue wire, so that I could reconnect them easily should I ever need to. When my alternator had to be replaced, the mechanic cleared all codes with his scan tool, and my truck would no longer start. I am guessing your mechanic did the same thing when he replaced the gas line. At any rate, all I had to do was reconnect the white and blue wire, start the truck (it started on the first try after reconnecting the white and blue wire), and while it was running, I just disconnected the white and blue wire again, and it has worked perfectly ever since. Hope this info helps!

@@normajean5975 Who told you that? Did you take a look at the link I sent you? The first generation Colorado trucks cover 2004-2012 so wiring should be the same for the most part. If you view the "How to" and you can find the wire in your truck and it all looks the same as the "how to" you should be good to go. Just make sure the truck is running when you cut (this is not a remedy if the truck is currently not starting, only as a preventative measure for the future) If you are having reservations about it, worst case scenario: you follow the "how to" and cut the specific wire and you still cannot start it? Just disconnect the battery and reconnect the wire you cut and its like it never happened. There are other ways to fix the pass lock issue. They just cost money. You can install a bypass device or have someone with an HPTuner disable it by reprogramming the vehicle's computer. My truck is a 2006 and I had this issue. I researched the problem, found out I could cut this wire, and the truck has started with no issue since for over 8 years now.

@@normajean5975🤦♂️ oh no! Ya if the flashing lock light flashes after you start your engine and its cranking but won't start is the pass lock issue. New ignition cylinder isn't going to do anything. Ive dealt with the most scammy dealerships and will never ever take any car I own there unless its under warranty. You should honestly cut the wire. And now that I remember, I had an unrelated issue with my PCM (on board computer) that i had to replace. I ended up reconnecting the wire I cut years back because I wasn't sure if a new computer would affect it. Sure enough the problem came back and wouldn't start. So as soon as I waited the 15 minutes and it started up, i disconnected the wire again and everything is all good. Long story short if you cut the correct wire that is described it won't permanently disable your vehicle or anything like that.

Most new ones are sold with the whole key cylinder and switch attached to it. Replacing the whole thing is alot more work as you saw in the linked video. What I did was undid the plastic under the steering column and that exposed the switch to the left. To take the switch off you just unscrew the two screws, the key has to be in the "ON" position or maybe "accessory" I cant remember, once in that position the switch will come right off. Then you put everything back together and complete the relear and you're golden. Any more questions feel free to ask 👍

OK-I have not tried this but I thought I would make a suggestion. That switch looks similar to the rotary switches I have repaired on several different kinds of electronic equipment. Get the end of the straw into the switch by prying the case open then spray the inside of the switch and rotate the ignition switch back and fourth several times to work the cleaner into the contacts. I have repaired/cleaned the contacts of many switches that way-It is worth a try-If someone does that and it works please post your result. GOOD LUCK!

So mine starts but won’t move out of park, passlock light stays on solid. Do you think it’s the same problem?
@averageautomotiveenthusias95554 жыл бұрын
I dont think so. The purpose of the passlock system is an antitheft device that cuts off fuel if the switch doesn't recognize the key, so if your truck starts its not the same issue i was having. This being said the switch could be faulty in a different way if it is staying solid while the truck is idling or it could be the switch is starting to fail. It not moving out of park is odd. Try undoing the positive and negative terminal on the battery for about 10 mins, i think that should be enough time to reset the ECU. See if it runs normal after that. If the light comes back on then its a legitimate reoccurring problem. I'd then take it to a shop for a diagnosis

I have this EXACT same issue, but I have a 2006. It is literally at the most random times that it won't start, then I have to wait 10 minutes to start it. I'm going to also have to replace the POS radio they put in here. If anyone knows if i actually need the chime box or if it will mess with the passlock system please let me know. I'm glad you figured this out man!

@@imaginethat6356 Yeah if you have to wait 10 mins before it starts it's the passlock 2 antitheft system. Get a used or new one and install it your self to save a alot of money. Thankfully, I haven't had any issues starting the truck since I replaced the switch. As far as the issues you're having with the radio I'm unsure, I wish I could help. Hopefully someone else can answer, thanks for watching 👍

@@averageautomotiveenthusias9555 hey bud. I changed the switch and relearned the key and it didn't make anything worse lol I still had problem but it isnt passlock/ign switch related. I have power from pcm on my relay but no full time power on relay. I am waiting on a friend for pin connection diagram on the plugs of the fuse box. Take care

@@UndrRatedEnt thanks for asking . The main problem in diagnosing was me. It was a bad fuel pump . Found a good used gm pump and put it in. Thanks again, appreciate that

Great video but you forgot to include two important things one is those three security bolts that are T25 that hold the plastic cover for the steering column, you have to pop the bigger plastic piece Beneath the steering wheel but the most important thing when just replacing the sensor is when you buy a new lock cylinder you need the key to remove just the sensor so if you’re just replacing the sensor you have to remove your original key ignition cylinder from the lock cylinder housing to put into the new cylinder housing to remove the new sensor.. to do that there’s a little guide hole with the key on ACC only you push the metal circle in to remove ignition cylinder.. I do not believe you can pry the new sensor out of the housing without damaging it .. the link to the long video shows you how to remove ignition cylinder

That’s if he had his own tv show and was getting paid. I was able to figure it out with this video

You can remove the sensor without the housing on the truck, all you have to do is stick something down in the lock cylinder hole and turn it, I used a pair of needle nose pliers and it worked easy
