Can you explain to me why Chevy Cruze needs a heater circuit to open the thermostat? Other cars don't need a heater circuit in the thermostat to open the thermostat. What is so special about the Cruze that necessitates the heater circuit? It is because of the turbo? The heater circuit is pulse width modulated so I imagine there is some type of closed-loop feedback mechanism happening where there is a desired engine coolant temperature and an actual coolant temperature and the duty cycle is increased or decreased in an attempt to get actual coolant temperature to the desired range.

What’s the flat rate on that btw? Did it in 1.75 thanks to your video. Have never wrenched on that car before. Just Harleys and SXS’s. Few suggestions though. Don’t need to pull the inner fender liner or the skid plate. Put a 2x4 block between the oil pan and skid plate and one on the bottom and you won’t damage it. Also easily got to the 3 bolts on the Mount to the block without taking the inner fender out.

I agree with the upper hose being the biggest pain in the butt. We pulled driver wheel and fender liner. I layer under the car with a helper from the top to guide tool. What a crock. GM says to pull headlight and bumper to change that hose. What a terrible design for maintenance. These are great driving cars with cooling systems from hell. So much plastic and junky O rings. When it's working it's working good but that is far and few between. Once you get any sort of leak it is my recommendation to replace every hose and pump associated with the cooling system. Pro tip/change oil feed line to turbo every 50k. It's a short hose and it's only $30. It will save your turbo. They get caked up and reduce oil flow to cool turbo. Just do it, you will thank me when your turbo lasts forever Instead of 80-90k that is typical al of these. Super simple job right behind heat shield.

I just did this same repair to my car. No problems. Did not have to go under car & I didn't have to do half of these steps. I did appreciate the torque specs though, but then again you got yo be crazy to buy new bolts. They really put you through some hoops don't they. And don't tell me all the extra steps are necessary because I have brought my car to the mechanics lot of times in my life and 90% of the times they messed up my car worse than it was to begin with. That's probably because I only bring my car in when I really really really need help and by that time it's something that even mechanics are not able to do. Way too many extra steps. No wonder when I bring my car to a mechanic, the are some extra broken missing parts that had nothing to do with what I sent it in for.

Actually a torque+angle spec does not indicate a fastener is torque to yield at all! Torque to yield is an engineering design specification. You simply cannot tell if a fastener will be yield based on the torque spec alone. You need to consider the size, length and material grade as well to determine if it will indeed be stressed into the yield region of the material. In this case it looks like a long stretchy M10 bolt and at 45 ft lbs + 60 deg, I would need to see some math to prove it is TTY.
