I love how Ford and GM didn't update their sedans at all for over 10 years and then when they weren't selling said "buyers must not want sedans anymore"

IDK at what point was it decided that families must have a truck because a sedan is too small. Most of us grew up in families that only had sedans and we are just fine

Because people believed that they need more room than they actually use or buy useless things that they have no use for. Just watch though, sometime down the road someone is gonna make a social media post as to why a sedan is great and the pendulum will swing back and sedans will be the thing again.

The problem with mid size sedans is their priced so close to compact crossovers that most people just step up to that or step down to a compact sedan because they have grown in size that they are what a midsize was 10 years ago.

That's because the next generation, our human replacements, of newborns are taller wider longer and heavier than our generation and they require bigger vehicles and current sedans are not big enough carry a family of four. Just look at the size increases of every new generation of the Mini Copper. The Mini Copper is no longer "Mini", it's XL Extra Large Copper when compared to the original! Only the "Large and In Charge; Crossovers, SUV'S, and Full size pickup trucks will survive. Remember God's creations are getting bigger, taller, wider, and longer, therefore requiring bigger vehicles for transportation.😢

So basically the only American non-EV sedans are the 2 Cadillacs and the upcoming Dodge Charger. It's highly unlikely they would outsell the Camry, Accord and Altima. Safe to say Japan won the sedan war that started in the 1980's

I own a Gen 7 (2010) Malibu LTZ. After 110,000 miles, I must say it might be one of the finest sedans I’ve ever owned. I won’t list all the accolades of the car, but I think Chevy (and GM) is making a huge mistake ridding itself of a decent vehicle for those of us that are not going hybrid, or full EV. That leaves Cadillac with the last remaining sedan in the GM fleet. Sad. 😢

I only found out recently the Malibu used to be offered as a hybrid, and it used a lot of the Volt components. In 2019 182 hp & 277lbs ft torque. 49/43 mpg, and could get up to 55mph before the gas motor kicked in (or for a handful of miles). I know their interiors were plast-tastic but as a 30k midsize hybrid sedan (even at 2019 prices) that seems fairly competitive for that year. Imagine what a bit more development effort could have made it.

That leaves us with 5 mainstream midsize ICE sedans left, the midsize sedan segment is dying faster than I thought almost as fast as the subcompact and large sedans. Altima is next in 2026, and Sonata in 2028. I wonder why the Ford and Chevy keep discontinuing good selling vehicles for EVs nobody buys. I read the other day that Mary Barra was committed to GM doing big business in China. I believe the latest stats show that GM is currently losing massive market share in China and since GM seems to have abandoned the US car market they are destined to go down the same road Ford is on. I remember as a kid the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS in dark blue with white strips a young guy in my home town used to drive. Every time I saw that car go by I thought it was hottest car ever made. As with the government pressure for GM to kill off my favorite GM division Pontiac and now the Malibu, I am someone who used to be a staunch GM fan find nothing in the GM family worth my attention.

I was going to get one 3 years ago but it was 3K over budget in the trim I wanted. They already killed the Cruze and that sent me to a Civic (which wasn’t my first choice) The Malibu when I test drove it with the 2.0T was awesome. Drove the 1.5T rental and it was surprisingly peppy. Today it can’t compete with the Camry and accord because older platform, no hybrid option but pricing one fully loaded is a value (2LT with every feature at 34k) sad it’s not going to redone as I feel GM were to bring it back built from the ground up with an optional Hybrid powertrain would do it justice. But oh well.

Cadillac in China has the CT6 sedan also on top of the CT4 and CT5. We do not have the CT6 sedan in the United States any longer. Ford got away from sedans in the United States as they have Taurus in China and the Middle East and Lincoln Zephyr in China. I miss Pontiac too. I really wish people would stop dismissing Oldsmobile. Several times this year I've booked "full" size sedans for rent at Enterprise, Chevy Malibu or similar. Each time they gave me an SUV because no sedans were available. If I'd have booked and SUV, it would have cost significantly more. I'm beginning to wonder when rental companies will axe sedans as a rental option altogether since there are hardly any left on the market.

Americans: I need it to be big enough to fit 4 full size adults even though I’m going to be the only one in 90% of the time. I also need it to sit at least 8 inches off the ground. It also needs to be fast, like I need the 0-60 to be under 7 seconds because that’s important for some reason. I also want real leather seats I’m too good for cloth and I want all the latest tech available. Also I need to a huge cargo area because I want to bring more stuff along with me. You know what might as well throw in a 3rd row that’ll I’ll never use but you never right? Company: And you want all this for 25k? Americans: Yup Company: Get out.

And the floor carpet was coming up on the sides of a brand new car... And also the mpg is a lie. The Malibu is ok for a used car but there are much better choices on the market. I noticed as they get over 60k miles they tend to start having problems.

5:00 LOL i cannot trust a statement like that "Ive never driven this car but it sits below everything else..." (Devils advocate here) Not a fan of the car either but what fun would that be if we hopped in this car only to find its better than the others you just ragged on. I know the odds are highly unlikely but you admitted you have never driven it. Neither have I so i cant say but if you missed testing a model the fact is you missed it. THe data it represents is omitted from your assessment making your overall assessment IN COMPLETE. Sure odds are its a POS but it still should be reviewed. Dont actually do it that was rhetorical.

Other than the Corvette, Chevy doesn’t build a single desirable vehicle. Chevy as a brand name is garbage: it carries the connotation of presenting under-engineered, outdated, embarrassing-to-own, last choice vehicles

Cann't understand this at all. Lincoln, Cadillac, Chevrolet etc, made many nice sedans, Usa heritage even. Ford skipped the bestselling Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo, Scorpio in Europe....marketshare sliding, factories closing. They sell rebadged VW'S and the Kuga...unbelievable. In the States the gap has been filled with sedans from Toyota, Lexus, Hyundai, Honda, Kia etc. A sedan is much more an effort to develop than a simple truck. With the focus on trucks and Chinese build Suv's, Gm, Ford will lose technical excellence as well. It is the beginni of the end.... . In a few years Ford will be part of VW and GM of Byd or Geely😢😢😢😢

My God do Chevy sedans look ugly in the US. Good thing we have Opel in Europe(though we joke about being to able to hear how it rusts when it's really quiet). We even have station wagons of the same cars.

Any car with any sort of large 5th door in the back is far more practical than a sedan. Call it a hatchback or SUV, whatever. Think of all those trips to places like Home Depot where you need a bigger opening to stuff your 8 foot lumber and other big things that would no way fit in a sedan. I've had Subaru wagons and small SUVs for over 40 years and would never consider a sedan anyway.

Chevy ended the Malibu to focus on EVs. What a mistake. I’m so glad I sold my suburban Motor City home. I don’t see a strong successful future for the Big 3 in the coming years. That will have a negative impact on the southeast Michigan economy.

Blame the Americans, All they want is crossovers 🤦🏽‍♂️ Sedans are more important now than ever because when their electrified whether if it's Hybrid or EV, they will get way more range and save fuel than any crossover and suv 💪🏽 I wasn't mad at ford for canceling their sedans because they were trash and ugly to begin with, The new accord is ugly but it's reliable atleast 🤷🏽‍♂️

Oh no, anyway A few thoughts on the death of the sedan. I just went from a 2012 Honda Fit to a 2022 Civic. I have also driven my brother's 2015 Optima, my mom's 2017 Kia Sportage and my dad's Tacoma. The gap between the Sportage and the Civic in terms of how it is to drive, is noticeable, but it's not substantial. Heck (and I know this sounds insane to some people) I would argue that Sportage driving character has more in common with my new Civic then the Civic has with my old Fit. (mostly down to transmission and that generation of Sportage was pretty sporty.) So why get a sedan? 1. Fuel efficiency 2. Slight edge in performance 3. Affordability (i.e. less profit for the OEM) 4. Style (subjective) I don't think these move the hearts of men, and the data demonstrates it.
