I love stuff like this. Even though people are pointing out how its not worth it to dump money into this platform, you do it anyway because it just scratches that itch of building something different. Whether its practical or not, it's still a seemingly very oddball engine platform, and that's what makes it cool for me above all else.

I have a 87 jeep Comanche that imo can't handle a a built v8 properly and it's a 4*4 but having a semi built v6 Chevy under the hood would increase the cool factor and would still be decent on gas mileage over the stock inline 6. Plus way more driveable

Regardless of the platform's tuning practicality, you guys gotta admit, a huge 4.3L V6 with a choppy idle is just pure fun, like come on!

Pretty stock bottom end but hypereutectic flat tops. Ported heads with roller rockers. Solid roller cam . 235 duration and .610 lift.

They make a good Forklift and inboard boat motor. Soo glad I got away from the 4.3 and the headaches with performance parts and thinking it would be fast. I sold that Malibu. Very bad expensive experience. I see things have changed since then. Maybe it's better now.

Sounds pretty good. I have one of these engines in my '84 Marlin stringer. It came with a Holley street dominator intake and a cam. Actually hauls the mail😊

Love it. My first car was a 85 Monte Carlo with the 4.3. Dad gave it to me broke down and made me fix it before I could get my drivers license. By the time I was done with that car it was just barely lifting the front wheels of the ground and still had the 4.3 under the hood. Nothing stock about it though. Wish I still had it.

Im finding out more about these engines the more i like them. I bought parts for an old asa/nqscar style gm 4.3 im thinkng about putting it in a baja bug with a six to 1

Shes shakin quite a bit there.....almost like it aint hittin on 2 holes. You sure you dont have 2 plug wires crossed? Easy to do and ive made that mistake myself many times. Looks clean tho!

What size carb is that? That motor has a problem. It has 0 throttle response. When you moved the primary throttle linkage you got next to no r.p.m. gain. Would not run well in a street car, nor stay together in a race application.

Carb was a 390 double pumper. You have an astute ear, sorry I hadn’t spent any time tuning. I was just getting some heat in it.

Performance books on v8 chevy apply to this motor. 30 years ago, the Chevy Performance catalog used to list race parts and tech info for them as well. There’s a book called V6 Performance by Pat Ganahl that has a good section on the chev motor. Always good background info is Speed Secrets by Smokey Yunick. I was also lucky enough to get all the build and development notes form Lozano Bros that had built a 500hp chev V6 in late 80s that I bought several years ago

HELL YEAH man thats awesome. Ive read Rochester TBI is capable of fueling up to 500hp and i believe thts with stock injectors if i remember right. I wish i could figure out a way to control tht stuff with an OBD2 computer. Itd be cool to see it run even sorta like this with completely stock induction lol

@wymple09 if you knew what I was talking about you wouldn't make such a stupid assumption to think I was talking about cam lope. 90 degree GM V6s are inherently imbalanced by design as they are a 350 missing 2 cylinders hence why GM designed a counter balance shaft in an attempt to dampen the vibration and harsh harmonics they have.

Ain't nothing wrong with building up a V6, lighter weight than V8, and lot's smaller than V8. I always wanted to do a Max Effort Ford 4.5 V6 Race engine for Drag Racing. Why not a V6 ? Worked pretty damn good for Buick with their Turbocharged Grand Nationals.
